SUMMARY:SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET (2007) w/ Stephen Sondheim pre-show @ 6 pm
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A bloody wonder\, intimate and epic\, horrific and heart-rending as it flies on the wings of Sondheim’s most thunderously exciting score… A spellbinder of breathtaking beauty and terror.” – Rolling Stone \n\n\n\nAn bloody-red\, inky-black adaptation of one of Stephen Sondheim’s razor-sharp revenge opera\, Sweeney Todd is musical theatre at its most deliciously macabre. Johnny Depp stars as the eponymous barber\, who returns to London after years of wrongful exile on a mission to hunt down the judge who destroyed his life. Along the way\, he teams up with the opportunistic Mrs. Lovett (a never-better Helena Bonham Carter) and transforms his barbershop into a slaughterhouse with Mrs. Lovett’s bakery as the perfect cover. Just don’t ask what’s in those meat pies! A tale of obsession set to one of Sondheim’s greatest and most complex scores\, Sweeney Todd remains a scintillating showcase of Tim Burton’s inimitable ability to transform gloomy outsiders into seductive paramours. Gothic\, grisly\, and grimly funny\, Sweeney Todd is always a bloody good time. \n\n\n\nCome out before the film for a Stephen Sondheim pre-show starting at 6 pm\, featuring clips of the musical maestro’s finest compositions. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nWhen a screening is sold out\, we open a waitlist 30 minutes before showtime. SUMMARY:CANNIBAL! THE MUSICAL (1993) -- Friday Night WTF! -- $5
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFriday Night WTF screenings are cheap\, weird\, and out of control! Cult trashterpieces\, so-bad-they’re-good crapfests\, movies that make you ask “What the hell am I watching?!” — we’ve got ’em all on Friday night. \n\n\n\n“A ridiculous\, over-the-top carnival of gore\, sophomorically sly humor\, and cheese-whiz choreography” – The Austin Chronicle \n\n\n\nBefore South Park. Before Team America. Before The Book of Mormon. There was… Cannibal! The Musical. Written by\, directed by\, co-produced by\, co-scored by and starring South Park creator Trey Parker and co-produced by Parker’s creative life partner Matt Stone\, Cannibal! tells the true story of the only person convicted of cannibalism in America: Alfred Packer. The sole survivor of an ill-fated trip to the Colorado Territory\, Packer recounts his side of the harrowing tale he awaits his execution. Filled with unspeakable horrors and toe-tapping musical numbers\, this comedy-horror-musical will sing and dance its way into your heart before taking a bite out of it! Cannibal! may be the only film in history that can be recommended equally to fans of South Park\, Oklahoma!\, and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:RAW (2016) -- Feminist Cannibal Erotic Body Horror!
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Ferocious and flawless\, Raw grips you from the get go and doesn’t spit you out until the bitter end. Simply incredible.” – IGN \n\n\n\nThe bolt-from-the-blue debut from French provocateur Julia Ducournau (Titane)\, Raw is a wild\, visceral coming-of-age art-horror cannibal jam unlike anything that came before it. Garance Marillier stars as Justine\, a sheltered\, vegetarian veterinary student whose first taste of raw meat during a brutal hazing ritural awakens a ravenous hunger she can’t explain. Justine experiences a body‑horror metamorphosis that’s equal parts tender\, terrifying\, and intoxicating in this weird and wild journey that depicts self‑discovery as a carnivorous fever dream. Filled with indelible images and inedible nightmares\, Raw may just be the greatest allegorical-feminist-cannibal-erotic-body-horror-vet-school-hazing film you’ll ever see. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:C.H.U.D.: Cannibalistic. Humanoid. Underground. Dwellers. (1984) -- Friday Night WTF!
\n\n\n\n“[A] gloriously scuzzy slice of urban sci-fi horror…C.H.U.D. isn’t just essential B-movie viewing. It’s a damp\, strange\, unexpectedly sharp little horror film that’s still growling under the city.” – Collider \n\n\n\nBefore it described MAGA mouth-breathers and internet idiots\, C.H.U.D. stood for Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers. Douglas Cheek’s cult ’80s favorite once again crawls out of the sewers and onto the big screen to provide the ultimate underground movie experience. In downtown Manhattan\, a police captain’s hunt for his missing wife uncovers a series of mysterious disappearances in the area. When he extends his search into the tunnels and sewers below\, it soon becomes clear that something monstrous lurks beneath the city streets – and it’s not staying down there much longer! Uniting John Heard and Daniel Stern years before Home Alone and featuring an early appearance by beloved St. Louis native John Goodman\, C.H.U.D. updates the 1950s creature feature for the 1980s with gloriously goopy\, gloppy\, gory results. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nWhen a screening is sold out\, we open a waitlist 30 minutes before showtime. SUMMARY:THE COOK\, THE THIEF\, HIS WIFE & HER LOVER (1989)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A bracingly intelligent and often beautiful work — a chilling black comedy that tells its heartless story in a virtuoso style marked by visual elegance and dark\, ironic wit. Anyone able to stomach its graphic imagery will find it an unsettling but unforgettable movie.” – San Francisco Chronicle \n\n\n\nPeter Greenaway’s notorious masterpiece The Cook\, the Thief\, His Wife & Her Lover is a rich\, decadent five-course meal that leaves your stomach unsettled in the best possible way. The Cook serves up immaculate gourmet dishes in the beautiful Le Hollandais. The Thief holds his tyrannical court in the restaurant\, terrorizing all around him. His wife has a dangerous and illicit passion. And her lover is having the riskiest affair of his life. Starring Helen Mirren and Michael Gambon\, this grisly\, sexy\, venomous tale of cruelty and vengeance combines a brilliantly pulsing Michael Nyman score\, frame-worthy cinematography by Sacha Guitry\, lavish costumes by designer Jean Paul Gaultier\, and real fine dining plates prepared by Michelin-starred chef Giorgio Locatelli into a lavish\, outrageous spectacle. Slapped with the deadly NC-17 rating upon its release\, The Cook… went on to become a surprise arthouse smash\, shocking and delighting audiences the world over with its audacious gustatory pleasures and terrors. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:AUSTIN POWERS: THE SPY WHO SHAGGED ME (1999) w/ Mike Myers pre-show @ 6 pm
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“It has both the attention span and sexual imagination of a 13-year-old boy\, and is littered with product placements and dick jokes. And yet\, against all odds\, Myers’s wacky step-and-repeat characters remain enduringly entertaining.” – The Ringer \n\n\n\n“I put the grrr in swinger\, baby!” a deliciously randy Austin Powers coos near the beginning of The Spy Who Shagged Me\, the the blockbuster go-for-broke sequel to 1997’s breakout hit Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. Mike Myers plays the hits while expanding his coterie of comic grotesques. Austin (Myers)\, Basil Exposition (Michael York)\, Dr. Evil (Myers again)\, Dr. Evil’s petulant son Scott (Seth Green)\, and Dr. Evil’s surprisingly competent second-in-command Number Two (Robert Wagner) are back\, but The Spy Who Shagged Me also introduced us to Dr. Evil’s petit clone Mini-Me (Vern Troyer\, RIP)\, Number Two’s younger self (Rob Lowe)\, American spygirl Felicity Shagwell (Heather Graham)\, and of course the obese cannibalistic Scotsman you love to hate\, Fat Bastard (Myers yet again). This time around\, Austin heads back to the ’60s to keep Dr. Evil from blowing up the world–and\, more importantly\, to get back his mojo! Bigger\, sillier\, and raunchier than its predecessor\, The Spy Who Shagged Me remains outrageously entertaining and serves as a clever\, decidedly out-of-the-box selection in our Fine Young Cannibals series…Now\, get in my belly! \n\n\n\nCome our before the film for a pre-show of classic Mike Myers clips\, starting at 6 pm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:AUNTIE LEE'S MEAT PIES (1992) -- Friday Night WTF!
\n\n\n\n“It’s schlock of course\, but it’s great schlock… super entertaining (and pretty raunchy at times too).” – lou (rhymes with wow!)\, Letterboxd \n\n\n\nAuntie Lee and her quartet of voluptuous “nieces” are known for making the tastiest meat pies around\, all from Auntie’s top secret recipe which calls for a most unusual type of meat: human. In order to acquire the juiciest flesh\, the girls employ their lusty charms\, luring unsuspecting male strangers into a carnal—and deadly—trap\, in which they’re chopped\, quartered\, and minced. Taking a simple premise and turning it into an increasingly bloody and hallucinogenic nightmare\, Joseph F. Robertson’s Auntie Lee’s Meat Pies heaps on gruesome kills with a healthy side of pitch-black humor. Graced with a cast as strange as the film itself\, including The Karate Kid‘s Pat Morita as a chilled-out sheriff\, The Hills Have Eyes‘ Michael Berryman as simple-minded helper\, and the legendary Karen Black as the Satan-worshipping meat pie maker Auntie Lee\, this one has all the rights ingredients for a Friday Night WTF classic. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:THE THRESHING (2026) -- "Midsommar meets Raw!"
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The Threshing is if Midsommar and Raw had a cinematic child. Slowly haunting and brooding\, with an uneasiness always in the air.” – Paul Hibbard\, Hysteria Fest \n\n\n\nIn this slow-burn psychological horror from filmmaker Sean Mannion\, a young couple’s dream of regenerative farming and idyllic mountainside living curdles into increasingly sinister rituals\, spiraling from animal slaughter to self-mutilation and cannibalism. Filmed on a working regenerative farm\, The Threshing reaps a harvest of horrors from its intimate—often insular and cult-like—milieu and the havoc it plays on its characters’ fragile psyches. Exploring issues of ecology\, relationships\, and the systems of belief that allow us to function in this off-kilter world\, The Threshing is as fresh as the daily harvest. SUMMARY:Whimsical post-apocalyptic cannibalistic black comedy DELICATESSEN (1991)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Funny\, imaginative\, ghoulish and rather beautiful” – The Spectator \n\n\n\nHow to describe Delicatessen? A retro-stylized post-apocalyptic black comedy about cannibalism that’s not only darkly funny but beautiful\, whimsical\, and wildly imaginative as well? It could only have been made by Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amélie). Unemployed circus clown Louison (Dominique Pinon) applies for a job as a handyman at an apartment building in post-apocalyptic France\, unaware that the ad is a ruse to lure people to the apartment where butcher-cum-landlord Clapet slaughters them to feed the apartment’s hungry residents. When Louison falls in love with the butcher’s nebbish daughter (Maire-Laure Dougnac)\, it takes all their wits to escape the knife. Wildly stylish and devilishly clever\, Delicatessen offers pitch-black mordancy with an effervescent touch. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Wild cult comedy classic EATING RAOUL (1982)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A delicious black comedy! Full of laugh-out-loud sick gags and charmingly acted by all.” – Empire \n\n\n\nA sleeper hit of the early 1980s\, Eating Raoul is a bawdy\, gleefully amoral tale of conspicuous consumption. Warhol superstar Mary Woronov and cult legend Paul Bartel (who also directed) portray a prudish married couple—appropriately named the Blands—who feel put upon by the swingers living in their apartment building. One night\, by accident\, they discover a way to simultaneously rid themselves of the “perverts” down the hall and realize their dream of opening a restaurant. A mix of hilarious\, anything-goes slapstick and biting satire of me-generation self-indulgence\, Eating Raoul marked the end of the sexual revolution with a thwack. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Black comedy horror cult classic MOTEL HELL (1980)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Chicken-fried Sweeney Todd snapping into a Slim Jim…a cult classic…if you want to get into 80s horror and have a lot of laughs along the way — it’s a sausage fest you won’t want to miss.” – Attack of the Drive-In \n\n\n\nIt takes all kinds of critters to make Farmer Vincent’s fritters! A creepy and black-comic hilarious horror yarn that “packs a punch that goes way beyond mere terror” (Boxoffice)\, Motel Hell is ’80s cult filmmaking at its finest. Rory Calhoun stars as the psychotic Vincent\, whose popular products contain a special ingredient that the psychotic farmer and his sister (Nancy Parsons) would literally kill to keep a secret! Can you guess what it is? (We bet you can.) Delightfully gruesome\, with an acid tongue firmly in its cheek\, this gleefully schlocky chiller co-stars Cheers and Pixar regular John Ratzenberger as a punk rock drummer and legendary DJ Wolfman Jack as a televangelist. The film also happens to be one of Arkadin co-owner Keith’s mom’s favorite films of all time! Come find out why and see if this cult classic just might be your cup of meat too. \n\n\n\nCome out early for a Cannibal Shorts pre-show starting at 6 pm\, featuring a smorgasbord of human meat. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. When she learns of a mysterious chef whose dumplings are supposedly able to do just this\, she quickly tracks her down. But what exactly is the secret of the recipe? When you find out\, you may never wanted to have dim sum ever again. DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLOST IN THE ARTHOUSE is a monthly series hosted by Arkadin co-owner Keith Watson that takes you to hidden corners of filmdom far from Hollywood. From must-see classics to obscurities waiting to be discovered\, these films stand at cinema’s bleeding edge. \n\n\n\n“I had\, so to speak\, seen it all. And then I saw Caniba.” – John Semley\, The Globe & Mail \n\n\n\nA hugely controversial documentary from the pioneering filmmakers behind the also-incredible Leviathan\, Caniba just might be the scariest movie ever made. It’s certainly one of the most intimate and unrelenting explorations of human depravity ever captured onscreen. Filmed primarily in intense close-ups that practically burrow into its subject’s flesh\, Caniba is a portrait of the notorious criminal Issei Sagawa\, who\, as a 32-year-old student at the Sorbonne in Paris\, murdered his Dutch classmate\, Renée Hartevelt\, and began eating her body. Sagawa was convicted of his crimes in France\, but through some legal loopholes\, he soon was allowed to return back to his home country of Japan where he lived for decades as a free man\, making his living by writing novels\, drawing manga\, and appearing in innumerable documentaries and sexploitation films in which he reenacted his crime. \n\n\n\nDirectors Véréna Paravel and Lucien Castaing-Taylor explore the outer limits of human behavior through Sagawa’s mysterious relationship with his brother. In a twist reminiscent of Terry Zwigoff’s Crumb\, it turns out Sagawa may not be the most disturbed person in his own family. Disturbing\, darkly funny\, and completely unforgettable\, Caniba provides an uncomfortable intimacy with a man most would regard as a monster\, one who has transgressed the fundamental taboo. The film refuses to provide easy judgments or simple resolutions\, allowing us—or perhaps forcing us—to marinate in our own shared humanity. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person.
