SUMMARY:Legendary "metaphysical splatter film" BEGOTTEN (1990) -- new 4K restoration w/ industrial music videos pre-show @ 6:30 pm
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The experimental ‘metaphysical splatter film’ you absolutely have to see.” – Collider \n\n\n\nA hypnotic Rorschach test that scars the psyche as much as the eye\, E. Elias Merhige’s directorial debut—memorably described as a “metaphysical splatter film” by critic J. Hoberman—stripped a century’s worth of filmmaking technique back to its primordial form. Here we have a genuine nightmare captured on degraded celluloid\, in which disfigured creatures flail in agony amid a barren landscape. Setting a forbidding new standard in avant-garde\, Begotten drew a line in the sand that has yet to be crossed. Be forwarned: This film is disturbing in a way few films can match. Picture Eraserhead on a Skinamarink budget\, as fed through a broken photocopier and burned to a crisp. Then take that\, drag it through the mud\, bury it in sand\, and screen it at night on the side of a barn while fluorsecents flicker overhead. Preferably during a cult initation. It’s the soul-searing experience you never knew you needed. (Michael Morlaine) \n\n\n\nThe film will be preceded by a pre-show of industrial music videos\, including a few directed by BEGOTTEN helmer E. Elias Merhige! \n\n\n\n\nBegotten has no characters in the ordinary sense. Its final credits name three principal figures: \n\n\n\nGod Killing Himself.Mother Earth.Son of Earth — Flesh on Bone \n\n\n\nThe entire film is what those names do to each other and to the earth. \n\n\n\nGod Killing Himself tears open his body and dies. Mother Earth rises from what remains and takes his seed into herself. She gives birth to Son of Earth — Flesh on Bone. He is cast into a barren world\, seized by the Nomads\, tortured\, killed\, and briefly returned to life by his mother. The Nomads destroy her too. The Robed Figures gather what remains of mother and son\, grind their bodies down\, and return them to the soil. The ground flowers. \n\n\n\nBegotten was shot in black and white on 16mm reversal film\, then rephotographed frame by frame through neutral-density filters. The process took four years and roughly ten hours of work for every finished minute. The image was worked by hand through repeated exposure and filtration until the grain itself began to move like an atmospheric condition\, thickening the dark and tearing open the light. \n\n\n\nWhen the film first began circulating\, no one agreed on where it belonged. Drama.Horror. Foreign. In one San Francisco video store\, briefly\, pornography. Susan Sontag encountered the film through the festival circuit\, became one of its earliest and most important advocates\, and began showing it to people in her living room. \n\n\n\nFor more than thirty-five years\, Begotten circulated in versions that carried its force but not its complete photographic body. Now\, for the first time\, the sketch has become the painting. Nothing has been cleaned up or modernized. The image has simply arrived at the form it was always meant to possess: blacks with weight\, whites with force\, and grain breathing as atmosphere. \n\n\n\nNobody has settled on what to call Begotten since it first appeared. \n\n\n\nThat was never the problem. \n\n\n\nIt is the reason to see it now. \n\n\n\n-E. Elias Merhige\, July 2026 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. You must physically come to the lobby to get your name on the waitlist. Seats are released as they become available. All remaining seats are released at showtime.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. SUMMARY:John Wilson's THE HISTORY OF CONCRETE (2026)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“An absurd triumph. Laugh-out-loud funny\, compelling and surprising” – The Guardian \n\n\n\nFollowing the finale of his TV series\, filmmaker John Wilson looks to the bedrock of his beloved New York City for inspiration and structure. Concrete\, the world’s most widely used building material\, appears as an ever-present life force\, and John sets out to make the definitive documentary on the matter. To tell this seemingly drab story\, he decides to use the industry-approved Hallmark formula to increase his movie’s appeal. But his foundation soon begins to crumble—literally and figuratively—as he struggles to balance artistic freedom with the realities of the modern film industry. \n\n\n\nThis film is playing twice: on October 3 at 9:15 pm and October 5 at 7 pm. Select your preferred showtime at checkout. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nWhen a screening is sold out\, we open a waitlist 30 minutes before showtime. SUMMARY:THIS IS BUZZ (2026) -- w/ Mark Pellington-directed music videos pre-show @ 3:30 pm
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“One of the best documentaries of 2025\, a movie about the late 1980s and early 1990s that’s also — without forcing the parallels — very much a movie about today.” – IndieWire \n\n\n\nHelmed by Mark Pellington (whose credits include the legendary music video for Pearl Jam’s “Jeremy” and criminally underrated early-aughts chiller The Mothman Prophecies)\, This Is Buzz is a bold\, music-driven documentary that tells (and\, just as importantly\, illustrates) the tale of the seismically influential—yet somehow forgotten—MTV slice-of-life docuseries BUZZ\, which ran for just 13 episodes in 1990. The show took an experimental approach to uncovering often undiscussed corners of global life. With fast-paced edits giving the show an avant-garde feel\, the series would tackle specific subjects with each entry. This dream-like\, almost subliminal\, feel pre-dated the media oversaturation we feel today as we are drawn to a constant conveyor belt of content on platforms like TikTok and Instagram. And on top of it all\, RuPaul was the show’s host! \n\n\n\nCome out early for a pre-show of music videos directed by Mark Pellington beginning at 3:30 pm. An in-person Q&A with director Mark Pellington will follow the film! Due to illness\, Mark Pellington unfortunately cannot be at Arkadin in person. Instead\, he will join us for a virtual Q&A following The Mothman Prophecies. There will be no Q&A following This Is Buzz\, but Mark is happy to take questions about the film at the later Q&A. SUMMARY:CHRONOVISOR (2026) -- "Spine-tingling and uncanny"
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Getting caught up in the film’s mounting obsession feels like falling headfirst into a Wikipedia rabbit hole\, tumbling into darkness and data until dawn breaks over your bloodshot eyes. It’s a rush and an addiction… Boldly inviting its audience to weave between the lanes of lucidity and enthrallment\, this film might entice some obsessives of its own.” – The AV Club \n\n\n\nAn entrancing conspiranoid thriller told in a literate\, arthouse style\, Chronovisor is one of the most unique films of 2026. While writing a monograph on historical theories of memory\, Respected academic Béatrice (played by real-life professor Anne Laure Sellier) becomes beguiled by the allegedly true story of the Chronovisor\, an occult device said to reproduce visuals from any point in history on a TV screen. Her obsession with the mysterious machine drags her from her Upper East Side apartment through the depths of New York City’s hidden libraries\, to the edge of a breakthrough. Filmed on luminous 16mm film\, Chronovisor captures better than perhaps any film ever made the pure compulsive enthrallment of falling down the rabbit hole of “the wildest conspiracy theory you’ve never heard” (The Film Stage). \n\n\n\nWHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING…\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Wildly compelling” \n\n\n\n\nAn occult thriller turns academic obsession Into something beguiling and wildly compelling… an addicting\, compulsively watchable rabbit hole. \n\n\n\n\n\nIndieWire \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Strikingly original” \n\n\n\n\nAuen and Walker employ a strikingly original array of aesthetic strategies… a mystery that becomes only more absorbing and thought-provoking the deeper the film goes down the archival rabbit hole. \n\n\n\n\n\nSlant Magazine \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Spine-tingling and uncanny” \n\n\n\n\nA spine-tingling and uncanny film that resonates with the vastly expanding powers of networked space and artificial intelligence today\, and fears of the erosion of privacy and human autonomy… deceptive and intoxicating. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe Film Verdict \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nWhen a screening is sold out\, we open a waitlist 30 minutes before showtime. SUMMARY:Queer road trip dramedy DREAMS IN NIGHTMARES (2026) w/ cast member Joss Barton in person!
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“With their debut film Test Pattern\, Ford announced themselves as an essential new voice in Black cinema\, with a focus on the lives and struggles of Black women. Here\, Ford tackles similar themes with a wider scope that includes Black femmes\, queer love\, and non-monogamous relationship structures. An even mix of comedy and drama\, Dreams in Nightmares is a work that feels both casual and cathartic.” – Jordain Searles\, The Film Stage \n\n\n\nWith their second film\, St. Louis-raised filmmaker Shatara Michelle Ford (Test Pattern) puts their singular stamp on the American road movie. Dreams in Nightmares\, which stars Denée Benton (The Gilded Age) and Jasmin Savoy Brown (Yellowjackets\, Scream 7). follows a group of queer friends in their mid-30s navigating love\, identity\, and belonging across America. Anchored in themes of chosen family and self-discovery\, the film blends humor and emotional depth against the backdrop of a journey through the Midwest and beyond. Dreams in Nightmares is an expansive and tender ode to the chosen family and to the radical act of claiming space to dream—and to exist—in an increasingly fraught country. \n\n\n\nCast member and St. Louis-based writer Joss Barton will join us in person for a Q&A following the film! \n\n\n\nDreams in Nightmares also plays Sept. 15 at 6 pm\, with director Shatara Michelle Fordin person. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING…\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Open your imagination” \n\n\n\n\n“With Dreams in Nightmares\, Ford extends an exciting invitation: Get lost in my vision\, open your imagination. SUMMARY:Queer road trip dramedy DREAMS IN NIGHTMARES (2026) w/ director Shatara Michelle Ford in person!
\n\n\n\nDirector Shatara Michelle Ford will join us in person for a Q&A following the film! \n\n\n\nDreams in Nightmares also plays Sept. 16 at 7 pm\, with cast member Joss Barton. SUMMARY:EARTH'S GREATEST ENEMY (2025) + virtual Q&A with director Abby Martin
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Captures the unfathomable breadth of ecological and human suffering caused by militarism. It covers the cost of war to the oceans\, animal and plant life\, fresh water\, and more. If someone lives in the belly of this military beast\, Earth’s Greatest Enemy should be a required watch.” – Common Dreams \n\n\n\nEarth’s Greatest Enemy\, the second feature film project by Abby Martin\, is a groundbreaking anti-imperialist environmental documentary. Exempt from international climate agreements and rarely scrutinized in mainstream reporting\, the Pentagon is the world’s single largest institutional polluter—spewing carbon\, contaminating water\, and scarring landscapes across the globe. Combining investigative journalism\, striking visuals\, and stories from impacted communities\, this film challenges audiences to rethink the hidden costs of a global military empire and its planetary consequences. Provocative\, urgent\, and eye-opening\, this is a documentary that will change how you see both the military and environmentalism. \n\n\n\nA virtual Q&A with Abby Martin will follow the screening! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:ROSE OF NEVADA (2025) -- "a stupefying\, time-slipping ghost story"
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Like nothing else in modern movies. Feels unearthed from the deep\, dark recesses of the unconscious.” – Nick Schager\, The Daily Beast \n\n\n\n“A stupefying\, time-slipping ghost story” (The Film Stage) from Mark Jenkin\, the visionary director of Enys Men\, Rose of Nevada is a seasick sci-fi-inflected journey into the unknown. Or\, as critic Brian Tallerico put it\, “a mind-fuck” that “reminds you of the work of Mike Leigh and David Lynch at the same time.” \n\n\n\nThree decades ago\, the Rose of Nevada vanished at sea\, along with its crew. Now\, it has returned. In a remote fishing village\, its reappearance is embraced as an auspicious sign\, with the local citizens convinced the luck of their economically devastated community may turn\, if only the ship sails again. Joining the crew is Nick (George MacKay\, 1917)\, desperate to provide for his young family\, and Liam (Callum Turner\, Fantastic Beasts)\, a mysterious drifter eager to escape his past. After a successful voyage\, they return to harbor\, only to find that nothing is as they remember it. \n\n\n\nShot on 16mm film with a vintage Bolex H16\, a camera that only allows a maximum runtime of 28 seconds per take\, and edited with a haunting\, rhythmic pulse\, Rose of Nevada is\, like its characters\, adrift in time—ferociously contemporary yet profoundly haunted by the past. It’s also very weird\, very cool\, and like nothing else in contemporary cinema. \n\n\n\nPlease note: Start time was originally listed as 7 pm. It has been moved to 7:30 pm. \n\n\n\nWHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING…\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Brilliantly weird” \n\n\n\n\n“With Rose of Nevada\, Jenkin has further cemented himself as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary cinema… brilliantly weird and wholly intoxicating.” \n\n\n\n\n\nThe Upcoming \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Mind-fuck” \n\n\n\n\n“It’s not every day that you see a film that reminds you of the work of Mike Leigh and David Lynch at the same time. Still\, there aren’t a lot of movies like this mind-fuck of a flick… I won’t forget it.” \n\n\n\n\n\nRogerEbert.com \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Moving… unnerving… striking” \n\n\n\n\n“An experience as moving as it is unnerving\, and as the piercing screeching of iron rods announces the Rose of Nevada is to leave port once more\, it is we the audience there to wave a pained goodbye\, quietly stunned by the ethereal aura of Jenkin’s striking creation.” \n\n\n\n\n\n★ ★ ★ ★ ★ \n\n\n\nLittle White Lies \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Guy Maddin's "hilariously bizarre" CAREFUL (1992) -- new 4K restoration presented by Lost in the Arthouse
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLOST IN THE ARTHOUSE is a monthly series hosted by Arkadin co-owner Keith Watson that takes you to hidden corners of filmdom far from Hollywood. From must-see classics to obscurities waiting to be discovered\, these films stand at cinema’s bleeding edge. \n\n\n\n“Hilariously bizarre… like some lost masterpiece from a time-warped alternative dimension.” – The Washington Post \n\n\n\nArkadin favorite Guy Maddin’s early masterpiece takes place in a 19th-century Alpine village where the wary residents—adult\, child and animal—must speak softly and tread lightly lest they cause an avalanche. But sexual frenzies teem in this world of repression\, setting off incestuous love triangles and quadrangles with deadly consequences. Bathed in lurid\, luminescent tints\, CAREFUL is Maddin’s twisted ode to a largely forgotten film subgenre\, the German “Bergfilme” of the 1920s and ’30s\, which pitted man (and woman) against mountain in epic survivalist adventures. Merging these bygone conventions with Maddin’s own delirious obsessions results in a truly singular work that resembles a vintage melodrama from another planet. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:FUCKTOYS (2025) -- "Irreverent and audacious sex comedy!"
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Irreverent and audacious! Annapurna Sriram’s saucy and singular sex comedy tests the limits of good taste.” – Variety \n\n\n\nPart-time sex worker\, full-time chaos magnet\, AP is convinced that the universe has it out for her… and she might be right. In Fucktoys—the wild\, unfiltered debut from writer/director/star Annapurna Sriram—AP seeks a cosmic reset after a swampy tarot reading (courtesy Big Freedia) tells her she needs $1\,000 and a sacrificial lamb to lift her curse. Armed with neither\, she sets off on a bizarre quest with her kindred spirit Danni (Sadie Scott) through Trashtown\, USA—a dystopian\, neon-drenched sprawl of assorted oddballs\, Tom of Finland cops\, and strip clubs galore. \n\n\n\nChanneling the cinematic stylings of French New Wave\, cross-pollinated with the rebellious vibe of 90s-era Gregg Araki\, Fucktoys is rude\, crude\, unhinged\, girly-pop middle finger to filmic convention. SUMMARY:New Buffy-inspired Trans Erotic Horror THE SERPENT'S SKIN (2025) -- Friday Night WTF!
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFriday Night WTF screenings are cheap\, weird\, and out of control! Cult trashterpieces\, so-bad-they’re-good crapfests\, movies that make you ask “What the hell am I watching?!” — we’ve got ’em all on Friday night. \n\n\n\nJudging by THE SERPENT’S SKIN\, you would never guess director Alice Maio Mackay is only 20. The wunderkind filmmaker from Australia returns with her sixth feature—maybe you caught T Blockers at Hysteria Fest 2024?—and this one may be her best yet! Inspired by the WB-led golden age of fantasy TV\, Mackay’s atmospheric and erotic new movie pays vivid homage to Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Charmed by way of a witchy girl-on-girl love story. Alexandra McVicker stars as Anna\, a young trans woman with supernatural powers. Soon after leaving home to live with her sister\, Anna meets a seductive tattoo artist (Avalon Fast) who shares her cursed gift. Together they plot\, fuck\, and unleash their inner demons to the world. Think The Craft with more queer kissing and a visual style that finds the exact midpoint between Buffy and Mandy — thanks\, in part\, to The People’s Joker auteur Vera Drew\, who served as editor on the film. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING…\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Groundbreaking” \n\n\n\n\nAlice Maio Mackay’s film is a groundbreaking trans romantic horror film with a unique vision\, cementing her status as one of cinema’s brightest stars.10/10 \n\n\n\n\n\nScreen Rant \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Spellbinding” \n\n\n\n\nThe vibe is so\, so right. SUMMARY:Jason Pappariella's 'places in pieces vol. 4' w/ filmmaker Q&A
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Jason Pappariella’s ‘places in pieces’ series present rich visual ideas that feel familiar\, yet unorthodox within the framework of an abstract travelogue” – Michael Robinson\, Moviate \n\n\n\nFilmmaker Jason Pappariella joins us to present his newest work\, places in pieces vol. 4 as he tours it across the eastern United States. The latest installment in Pappariella’s non-narrative documentary series\, places in pieces vol. 4 picks up where the series left off in 2011\, as a non-narrative regionally focused meditation. This installment makes its way across Eastern and Central Europe\, moth tracking from the Baltics to the Balkans\, fluttering about the Caucasus region. With a curiosity for the ordinary\, places in pieces vol. 4 is an observation of quiet moments\, contemplating time and memory. The film score is composed by Adam Parks of musical projects Water Is The Sun and Lighting White Bison. \n\n\n\nRuntime: 56 minutes\, followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker. SUMMARY:Charli XCX stars in ERUPCJA (2025) w/ Charli XCX pre-show
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“[F]eels like such a natural extension of Charli’s musical work. It’s a drug-and-dance-music-fueled party girl’s lament drug-and-dance-music-fueled party girl’s lament” – Slant Magazine \n\n\n\nAmerican filmmaker Pete Ohs (cinematographer on Arkadin favorite OBEX) observes the combustible chemistry between a Polish florist and a British tourist in this charming postcard of sapphic synchronicity\, shot in secret during the height of 2024’s Brat Summer. Charli stars as Bethany\, an English girl who’s been brought back to her old Warsaw stomping grounds by her doting boyfriend\, Claude (Jeremy O. Harris). Claude plans to pop the question\, but Bethany is more interested in rekindling her (literally) volcanic relationship with old friend/kinda-old flame Jel (Lena Góra)\, throwing everyone’s life into deep uncertainty. A sensitive and assured comedy with a loose\, semi-improvised vibe\, ERUPCJA reveals Charli to be a truly magnetic screen presence. If that whole music thing doesn’t work out\, she’s got a bright future ahead of her in pictures. \n\n\n\nCome out early for a Charli XCX pre-show\, starting at 4:30 pm. \n\n\n\nERUPCJA is playing twice\, once on May 22 at 7 pm (with 6 pm pre-show) and again on May 23 at 5 pm (with 4:30 pm pre-show). SUMMARY:TOUCH ME (2026) -- “The tentacled erotic horror comedy you didn't know you needed”
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The tentacled erotic horror comedy you didn’t know you needed…part absurdist\, gross-out romp\, part erotic thriller\, and part lo-fi sci-fi… It’s rare that something this confidently unique finds its way out into the world\, but TOUCH ME is destined to find a dedicated fan base who love eroticism and goo.” – ScreenAnarchy \n\n\n\nTwo codependent best friends become addicted to the heroin-like touch of an alien narcissist who may or may not be trying to take over the world in Addison Heimann’s weird\, wild\, horny\, hideous\, goop-slathered slab of midnight-movie madness\, TOUCH ME. Starring Olivia Taylor Dudley as rudderless single gal Joey and Jordan Gavaris as her lazy stoner roommate Craig\, the film finds the duo taking refuge from their shit-stenched apartment in the sprawling compound of Joey’s ex\, Brian (Lou Taylor Pucci)\, who just so happens to be an alien whose physical touch leaves humans in a heroin-like state of liberating ecstasy that drains all worry from their bodies. Filled to the brim with offbeat comedy\, surreal eroticism\, gloopy practical-effects horror\, and an atmosphere of woozy cosmic dread\, TOUCH ME is “31 flavors of weird” (The Pitch). \n\n\n\n\n\nWHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING…\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Do you like Gregg Araki? Cthulhu? Hentai? Then this film is one-stop shopping. Amidst the laughter and the tentacle-driven moments onscreen is something heartfelt and a little broken\, making this a surprisingly deep experience.” – ButWhyTho \n\n\n\n\n\n“An ambitious\, sexually charged horror satire…Touch Me is the kind of film you kind of question if you should be watching but can’t look away once it locks you in.” – That Hashtag Show“For those who tune in to the freaky\, goofy\, and sincere frequencies there’s a specific genius running through the work that’s nigh on irresistible.” – AWFJ \n\n\n\n“Austin Powers 2 on acid” – Albert Birney\, director of OBEX \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSECOND SCREENING ADDED DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND! \n\n\n\n“MARS displays the kind of comedy tradition The Whitest Kids U’Know are part of: smart people making the most stupid and surreal jokes possible…utterly gleeful about death\, mutilation\, and gore while scoring deliberately cheap satirical points… After all\, who doesn’t want to see a tech billionaire’s head explode?” – Bleeding Cool \n\n\n\nMARS is the animated feature film from cult comedy troupe The Whitest Kids U’ Know. The film tells the story of Kyle\, an average guy in his 30s who is about to marry his nagging girlfriend and take over a dental practice he hates. Desperate for a way out\, he enters a contest hosted by eccentric billionaire Elron Branson to be one of four “average people” to visit Mars. Unfortunately\, he wins! Leaving his fiancée at the altar\, Kyle joins four others to be among the first human beings to have an adventure that is absolutely nothing like he could have expected. \n\n\n\nInitially conceived by the group in 2012\, MARS began production during the pandemic after a successful crowdfunding campaign that raised $600\,000. The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2024 and represents the troupe’s final work together as a group. MARS holds special significance as the final performance of Trevor Moore\, WKUK’s beloved co-founder who passed away in 2021. Fortunately\, Moore’s dialogue was recorded before his passing\, and the surviving members worked tirelessly to complete the film as a tribute to his legacy and as a gift to WKUK fans. SUMMARY:Feminist Classic FEMALE PERVERSIONS (1996) -- new 4K restoration!
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“One of the most provocative films I’ve seen about the complications of being female in the modern world” – Roger Ebert \n\n\n\nIn her US film debut\, Academy Award winner Tilda Swinton stars as Eve Stephens\, a bi-sexual lawyer on the edge of professional breakthrough\, personal breakdown\, and sexual awakening in this erotic psychological drama. Inspired by Louise Kaplan’s psychoanalytic study Female Perversions: The Temptations of Emma Bovary\, Susan Streitman’s film is an inspired amalgamation of erotic drama and psychological thriller in which Eve tries (and often fails) to juggle professional demands\, personal desires\, and her strained relationship with her kleptomaniac sister (Amy Madigan\, nominated for an Academy Award this year for her powerhouse performance in Weapons). Shocking when it was first released in 1996 and now rightfully considered feminist classic as it celebrates its 30th anniversary\, FEMALE PERVERSIONS has presented in a sumptuous new 4K restoration. \n\n\n\nThis film is screening in Arkadin’s April 2026 Sunday Series on WOMEN DIRECTORS\, featuring a selection of unusual\, rarely screened works from female filmmakers. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. However\, we encourage researching titles to determine if a screening may contain content that could be upsetting to you. Please feel free to contact us for guidance on specific films. Information about content can also be found on Common Sense Media\, IMDB and DoesTheDogDie.com\, as well as through general internet searches. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nWhen a screening is sold out\, we open a waitlist 30 minutes before showtime. SUMMARY:NUMBSKULL REVOLUTION (2026) -- the new film from punk rock madman Jon Moritsugu
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA PUNK ROCK BLADE RUNNER FOR ARTISTS FROM LEGENDARY PROVOCATEUR JON MORITSUGU! \n\n\n\nWith raucous\, three-chord cinematic bangers such as Terminal USA (1993) and Mod Fuck Explosion (1994)—both of which played at Arkadin in 2023—the Godfather of Punk Cinema\, filmmaker\, punk rocker\, Asiansploitation progenitor\, and all-around madman Jon Moritsugu defined the trashy\, rough-hewn DIY aesthetic of 1990s underground filmmaking. Arkadin is thrilled to welcome Moritsugu’s work back with the area premiere of his new film\, NUMBSKULL REVOLUTION! Moritsugu’s first feature in over a decade\, NUMBSKULL was created with longtime collaborator and ex-wife\, Amy Davis\, who co-stars as Cucumber Montgomery\, alongside James Duval as Futurcide\, a pair of rival conceptual artists battling for fame and funding in the near-future dystopia of Shitville\, pop. 999.8 billion. As one ascends the heights of neoliberal capitalist success\, the other seeks inspiration and solace in the euphoric waves of a new cyber-drug called Skullfuck. Embracing chaotic digital artificiality in a style reminiscent of Vera Drew’s The People’s Joker\, NUMBSKULL combine ingenious production design and savvy location shooting to evoke the urban sprawl and rural industrial collapse against which Mortisugu frames this scathing satire of art world pretension. (adapted from UCLA note written by Senior Public Programmer Paul Malcolm) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person.
