SUMMARY:NOIRVEMBER: Jazzy\, fog-drenched thriller THE BIG COMBO (1955) -- $3
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Shadows and lies are the stars of The Big Combo\, a spellbinding black-and-white chiaroscuro with the segmented texture of a spider’s web” – Ed Gonzalez\, Slant Magazine \n\n\n\nFrom the aching strains of its jazzy opening theme to a gunfight climax bathed in fog\, Jospeh H. Lewis’s The Big Combo delivers everything you want from a noir and more. Cornel Wilde stars as Lt. Diamond\, who claws his way through a city of shadows on his obsessive quest to put away gangster kingpin Mr. Brown (Richard Conte)\, whose silky smooth voice and icy cold cruelty chills the city’s back alleys and corridors. John Alton’s rich\, shadowy B&W cinematography envelops the film’s violent underworld in an atmosphere of poetic mystery. Spotlights blind\, silhouettes melt into fog\, and smoke chokes the air\, as anyone who gets in Mr. Brown’s way meets a brutal fate—including a musical torture scene that inspired Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. Information about content can also be found on Common Sense Media\, IMDB and DoesTheDogDie.com\, as well as through general internet searches. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nWhen a screening is sold out\, we open a waitlist 30 minutes before showtime. All remaining seats are released at showtime.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. We follow the MPAA rating guidelines for all other films.\n\n\n\nTickets can be purchased using the BUY TICKETS link above. Upon ordering\, you will receive a confirmation email from Square. SUMMARY:NOIRVEMBER: Taut\, clammy crime thriller with pressure-cooker suspense KANSAS CITY CONFIDENTIAL (1952) -- $3!
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Terse and tough\, Kansas City Confidential is one of the great lean\, mean B crime thrillers\, with a bang-up opening\, a deadly payoff and a shifting set of identities and alliances that keep pulling the rug from under our hero.” – Sean Axmaker\, Parallax View \n\n\n\nKansas City Confidential is a tight\, grimy noir about ex‑con delivery driver Joe Rolfe\, who gets framed for an armored‑car robbery orchestrated by the ruthless Mr. Big. As Rolfe fights his way through a tangle of masked crooks to clear his name\, director Phil Karlson ratchets up the tension with his trademark bruising realism. Filled with intense close‑ups\, shocking violence\, and a relentless pace\, this taut thriller may be the sweatiest movie ever made. Made on a small budget for the independent studio Edward Small Productions\, this pulpy pressure cooker was a rousing success that helped define the “heist‑gone-wrong” blueprint for later films\, including Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs\, which borrows from it liberally. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:NOIRVEMBER: Humphrey Bogart in parody cult classic BEAT THE DEVIL (1953) -- $3
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Beat the Devil went straight from box office flop to cult classic and has been called the first camp movie… The movie has above all effortless charm.” – Roger Ebert \n\n\n\nA sun‑baked\, off‑kilter caper starring Humphrey Bogart and directed by John Huston that breezily parodies the hard-boiled noirs and adventure films those two had made together\, Beat the Devil is one of the most lovably eccentric films to emerge from the Golden Age of Hollywood. Bogart drifts through a tangle of schemers\, dreamers\, and double‑crossers played by the likes of Peter Lorre\, Jennifer Jones\, and Gina Lollobrigida\, who set out on a crooked quest for African uranium only to get waylaid in a sleepy coastal Mediterranean town. Filmed on location in Naples and Ravello\, Huston threw out the script on the first day and flew out Truman Capote to rewrite the whole thing on the fly. (Capote demanded daily phone calls with his pet raven\, and one day when the raven refused to answer he flew to Rome to console it\, delaying the production.) Boozy\, mischievous\, and deliriously chaotic\, this oddball noir-comedy confounded audiences at the time\, but it quickly earned a rabid cult following. Bogart\, who’d sunk his own money into the production\, once moaned\, “Only phonies like it.” Well\, count us as the ultimate phonies then\, because we love it…and we think you will too! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nWhen a screening is sold out\, we open a waitlist 30 minutes before showtime. SUMMARY:NOIRVEMBER: Relentless rollercoaster of suspense WOMAN ON THE RUN (1950) -- $3
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The best film noir you have never seen!” – Eddie Muller\, host of TCM’s Noir Alley \n\n\n\nA lean\, nervy slice of late‑period noir\, Woman on the Run finds Ann Sheridan—who also produced the film herself\, outside the strictures and sexism of the studio system—racing through the streets of San Francisco on a quest to find her husband\, who’s taken flight after witnessing a gangland murder. Filmed on location in the City by the Bay\, San Francisco’s hills and waterfront become a nocturnal labyrinth of piers\, bars\, and back‑alleys\, all humming with menace. Director Norman Foster\, a protégé of Orson Welles\, brings scintillating style to this elementally simple story\, which reaches its crescendo at a waterfront amusement park where Ann Sheridan takes a roller coaster ride for her life. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person.
