SUMMARY:Charlie Chaplin's CITY LIGHTS (1931) presented by Silents\, Please! STL
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis film is presented by Silents\, Please! STL and will feature a special introduction from SPSTL’s Kate Stewart. \n\n\n\nCITY LIGHTS\, the most cherished film by Charlie Chaplin\, is also his ultimate Little Tramp chronicle. The writer-director-star achieved new levels of grace\, in both physical comedy and dramatic poignancy\, with this silent tale of a lovable vagrant falling for a young blind woman who sells flowers on the street (a magical Virginia Cherrill) and mistakes him for a millionaire. Though this Depression-era smash was made after the advent of sound\, Chaplin remained steadfast in his love for the expressive beauty of the pre-talkie form. The result was the epitome of his art and the crowning achievement of silent comedy. \n\n\n\n“If only one of Charles Chaplin’s films could be preserved\, CITY LIGHTS would come the closest to representing all the different notes of his genius. It contains the slapstick\, the pathos\, the pantomime\, the effortless physical coordination\, the melodrama\, the bawdiness\, the grace\, and\, of course\, the Little Tramp–the character said\, at one time\, to be the most famous image on earth.” – Roger Ebert \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. We follow the MPAA rating guidelines for all other films.\n\n\n\nTickets can be purchased using the BUY TICKETS link above. Upon ordering\, you will receive a confirmation email from Square. Tickets may also be purchased on the day of the show at the concession counter.\n\n\n\nIf you’ve purchased advance tickets\, when you arrive\, please give your name at the concession counter to check in. \n\n\n\nTickets are returnable by sending a request through the contact form located on our About Us page prior to showtime.\n\n\n\nWhen an event is sold out\, we reserve the right to release open seats to customers on the waitlist. If you have a pre-purchased ticket and arrive late and there is no seat for you\, your ticket will be refunded.\n\n\n\nAll screenings are held in our indoor theater unless indicated otherwise in the event description above.\n\n\n\nPlease respect your fellow movie-goers by remaining quiet and refraining from using your cell phone throughout the screening.

DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis Galentine’s Day join us for a twisted celebration of sugar\, spite and sisterhood with JAWBREAKER! And dust off your platform slides\, butterfly clips and other Y2K-era fashion staples because a special prize will be awarded to the best-dressed squad.  \n\n\n\nA deliciously vicious cult classic\, JAWBREAKER is a candy-colored\, turn-of-the-millennium dark teen comedy that asks the question – how far would you go to cover up the accidental murder of your bestie? Starring Rose McGowan\, Rebecca Gayheart\, and Julie Benz\, JAWBREAKER follows a trio of queen-bees whose birthday prank goes horrifically wrong—setting off a chain reaction of secrets\, power plays\, and fabulously unhinged chaos. SUMMARY:THE REFLECTING SKIN (1990) -- 𝔉𝔬𝔩𝔨 ℌ𝔬𝔯𝔯𝔬𝔯 𝔄𝔯𝔬𝔲𝔫𝔡 𝔗𝔥𝔢 𝔚𝔬𝔯𝔩𝔡
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Influenced…by Alice in Wonderland and the paintings of Andrew Wyeth\, THE REFLECTING SKIN is a tour de force of twisted gothic imagination\, its deadpan horrors only enhanced by the stunning beauty of Dick Pope’s photography.” – Sight & Sound \n\n\n\nAn instant cult classic when it premiered to sold out screenings at Cannes in 1990\, THE REFLECTING SKIN is a nightmarish vision of the American dream. Growing up in the 1950s in small-town Idaho\, 8-year-old Seth and his friends play a prank on the town recluse\, a mysterious English widow named Dolphin Blue (Tony winner Lindsay Duncan). After his father tells him stories of vampires\, Seth becomes convinced Dolphin is a vampire\, stealing the souls of his neighborhood friends one by one. When his older brother Cameron (Lord of the Rings‘ Viggo Mortensen\, in one of his first starring roles)\, returns home from military service in the Pacific and takes a liking to Dolphin\, Seth feels it’s up to him to save Cameron from his friends’ fate. With stunning visuals recalling Edward Hopper paintings and a surreal blend of horror and pitch-black humor\, THE REFLECTING SKIN is a “stunningly beautiful…Gothic masterpiece” (The Guardian). \n\n\n\nEach month\, Arkadin presents a selection of FOLK HORROR AROUND THE WORLD\, creepy folktales from all corner of the globe to give you the Sunday scaries. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:MAUVAIS SANG (a.k.a. Bad Blood\, 1986) presented by Lost in the Arthouse
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLOST IN THE ARTHOUSE is a monthly series hosted by Arkadin co-owner Keith Watson that takes you to hidden corners of filmdom far from Hollywood. From must-see classics to obscurities waiting to be discovered\, these films stand at cinema’s bleeding edge. \n\n\n\n“A masterpiece of ecstatic cinema from 1986… With an emotional world akin to that of the New Wave masters\, a visual vocabulary that pays tribute to their later works\, and a visionary sensibility that owes much to Jean Cocteau’s fantasies\, Carax suggests the burden of young genius in a world of mighty patriarchs who aren’t budging.” – The New Yorker \n\n\n\nWith this giddily romantic\, exquisitely stylized sophomore feature\, Leos Carax cemented his status as one of the boldest filmmakers of his generation. In a world ravaged by STBO\, a sexually transmitted disease only acquired by people having sex without any emotion\, a rebellious young man (Denis Lavant) is recruited by a veteran criminal (Michel Piccoli) to steal the antidote. He soon falls dangerously in love with his new associate’s lover (Juliette Binoche)—an infatuation that catapults him out into the street to run to the pounding beat of David Bowie’s “Modern Love” in one of the most exhilarating moments of cinema (so powerful\, it was cribbed note for note by Noah Baumbach in Frances Ha). In what may well be the defining film of 1980s French film\, Leos Carax revived the the spirit of early Godard\, creating a bold and beautiful gangster film-cum-romance that serves as a vibrant love letter to the possibilities of cinema. \n\n\n\nThis film is screening as part of Arkadin’s February 2026 series\, OFFBEAT ROMANCE\, featuring quirky tales of oddballs in love. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Cult Classic Sci-Fi Indie THE BROTHER FROM ANOTHER PLANET (1984)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“ONE OF THE BEST SCI-FI MOVIES OF ALL TIME! A gentle-hearted satire on race and the immigrant experience…science fiction at its most succinct and humane.” – Slant Magazine \n\n\n\nBlending sci‑fi\, social satire\, and street‑level realism into an indie cult classic\, THE BROTHER FROM ANOTHER PLANET takes a sly look at social divisions through the eyes of a mute\, three-toed extraterrestrial slave who just so happens to look like an African-American man. Written and directed by indie legend John Sayles (Lone Star\, Matewan)\, the film wittily exposes the absurdities of race\, power\, and cultural identification as The Brother finds community in Harlem while hiding out from international bounty hunters who seek to take him back to his home planet. It’s a quirky\, political\, and unmistakably human riff on the classic immigrant’s story brought to life by Joe Morton’s soulful yet wordless lead performance. \n\n\n\nOTHER WORLDS brings you to strange new realms through science fiction and fantasy. Featuring classics\, hidden gems\, and cult favorites\, this series offers a mind-bending retreat from our mundane reality. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:$3 MONDAY MYSTERY MOVIE: Bizarre Animated Lesbian Sci-Fi Musical
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn the last Monday of every month\, Arkadin chooses an underseen deep cut to inflict upon an unwitting audience. Though the genre and tone may change\, the price always remains the same: three measly bucks. You can’t afford not to get yourself a ticket! \n\n\n\nImagine an animated\, futuristic\, overtly queer version of Phantom of the Paradise and you’re maybe a third of the way to comprehending the sheer audacious WTFery of this month’s mystery selection. Little known and barely seen\, this obscure little gem features a shockingly high-profile voice cast — none of whom surely understood what exactly they were getting into. Sometimes cheesy\, other times mind-bendingly psychedelic\, this tripped-out dreamscape features some genuinely fascinating ideas and mind-blowing images alongside plenty of corny cliches and goofball moments. But there’s an endearing sincerity and genuine inventiveness that makes this film a true must-see for lovers of cinema’s stranger side. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. Sean Connery plays Ramirez\, Connor’s mentor and fellow immortal friend\, and Clancy Brown plays The Kurgan\, a 16th-century sadistic barbarian turned modern NYC street punk\, who has challenged Connor for the ultimate prize: to be the final immortal! \n\n\n\nDirector Russell Mulcahy\, a popular music video director\, cast lead actor Christopher Lambert after finding his picture in a magazine — not knowing the actor did not speak English and would have to learn the language during the brief period between landing the role and filming began. The film features a beautiful orchestral score by composer Michael Kamen\, as well as multiple original songs by rock megastars Queen including “Princes of the Universe” and “Who Wants to Live Forever.”  \n\n\n\nHIGHLANDER was an initial critical and box-office bomb during its theatrical release in 1986\, but found international success through its home video release and has since gone on to develop a devoted cult following. The original film spawned three live-action sequels\, an anime movie\, multiple television spin-offs\, and a remake currently in the works starring Henry Cavill\, but fans know\, “There Can Be Only One!” \n\n\n\nCome out early to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Highlander with a special Queen music video preshow starting at 6:30 pm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:PINK FLOYD: THE WALL (1982) presented by Dark Dream Cinema
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDark Dream Cinema is a monthly film series devoted to the creeping undercurrents of the arthouse scene\, hosted by Michael Morlaine. \n\n\n\n“Visually stunning\, sonically appealing\, and disturbingly still relevant.” Michael Cavendar \n\n\n\nPink (Bob Geldof) is a superstar with some serious baggage: Haunted by the father he lost in World War II\, hounded by the press and the fans and the industry itself\, and worn down by a growing sense of malaise and disconnect\, he builds an internal barrier between himself and everyone else. Eventually going catatonic\, Pink lapses into a fantasy world of nightmarish images and delusions of grandeur—but faced with his own annihilation\, he’ll need every last ounce of resolve in order to break through the wall. \n\n\n\nDetailing the mental decay of a rock god who fancies himself a despotic ruler\, The Wall redefined the rock opera and pushed the limits of dark\, surrealistic cinema. Scored with music from Pink Floyd’s immortal concept record\, and interspersed with animated sequences by Gerald Scarfe\, The Wall doubles as both a rousing cinematic experience and a cautionary tale of how easily one can exploit the public’s thirst for celebrity and bigotry as the grounding for outright fascism. In an age in which reality TV stars hijack the White House and jackbooted thugs wage war on American streets\, there’s never been a more urgent time for Pink Floyd’s call to arms than now. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Irish Folk Horror FRÉWAKA (2024) -- 𝔉𝔬𝔩𝔨 ℌ𝔬𝔯𝔯𝔬𝔯 𝔄𝔯𝔬𝔲𝔫𝔡 𝔗𝔥𝔢 𝔚𝔬𝔯𝔩𝔡
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“It’s the mythical and political Irish context of “Fréwaka” that makes it stick\, as it draws on lingering national guilt over the iniquities of the Magdalene laundries\, and twists deep-seated folk imagery into uncanny nightmare fuel.” – Variety \n\n\n\nGet ready for St. Patty’s Day with this terrifying slice of folk horror madness imported straight from the Emerald Isle. Written and director by Aislinn Clarke\, FRÉWAKA incorporates Celtic folklore\, generational trauma and the malfeasance of the Catholic Church into an atmospheric haunted-house tale infused with occult horror and told primarily in the Irish language. The film follows home care worker Shoo (Clare Monnelly)\, who\, haunted by a personal tragedy\, leaves her pregnant girlfriend to care for Peig (Bríd Ní Neachtain)\, a cantankerous old woman who has incarcerated herself in a big house on the edge of a remote village. Peig fears the neighbors as much as she fears na sídhe—sinister entities whom she believes abducted her on her wedding night decades earlier. As the two develop a deep connection\, Shoo is infected by the old woman’s paranoia\, rituals\, and superstitions\, eventually confronting the horrors of her own past. With echoes of the insular traditionalism of Midsommar and the devilish goat figure of The Witch\, Clarke’s haunting folk is deftly woven through with contemporary concerns about mental health\, inherited trauma\, and the fraught realm of motherhood. \n\n\n\nIn Irish and English\, with English subtitles. \n\n\n\nThis film is screening in Arkadin’s April 2026 Sunday Series on WOMEN DIRECTORS\, featuring a selection of unusual\, rarely screened works from female filmmakers. SUMMARY:Agnès Varda's ONE SINGS\, THE OTHER DOESN'T (1977) presented by Girlhood
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGirlhood is a semi-regular series hosted by Arkadin co-owner Sarah Baraba that spotlights stories of sisterhood on the silver screen. \n\n\n\n“The film\, a sort-of musical about the decade-spanning friendship between two women… [is] a gift of hope for future generations of women.” – Reverse Shot \n\n\n\nIn the early 1960s in Paris\, two young women become friends. Pomme is an aspiring singer. Suzanne is a pregnant country girl unable to support a third child. Pomme lends Suzanne the money for an illegal abortion\, but a sudden tragedy soon separates them. Ten years later\, they reunite at a demonstration and pledge to keep in touch via postcard\, as each of their lives is irrevocably changed by the women’s liberation movement. A buoyant hymn to sisterly solidarity rooted in the hard-won victories of a generation of women\, One Sings\, the Other Doesn’t is one of Agnès Varda’s warmest and most politically trenchant films\, a feminist musical for the ages. \n\n\n\nA portion of this event’s proceeds will be donated to Missouri Abortion Fund. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:THE SPIRIT OF BEEHIVE (1973) ᴘʀᴇꜱᴇɴᴛᴇᴅ ʙʏ ʟᴏꜱᴛ ɪɴ ᴛʜᴇ ᴀʀᴛʜᴏᴜꜱᴇ
\n\n\n\n“Close to magic. It is one of the most beautiful and arresting films ever made in Spain\, or anywhere.” – The Guardian \n\n\n\nWidely regarded as one of world cinema’s most magnificent achievements—it’s no accident that it ranked in the top 100 in Sight & Sound‘s prestigious 2022 “greatest films” poll—Victor Erice’s THE SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE is a spellbinding masterpiece about the immersive power of cinema. Set in a small Castilian village in 1940\, in the wake of the devastating Spanish Civil War\, six-year-old Ana (Ana Torrent\, in what is easily the most tender film performance ever given by a young child) attends a traveling movie show of the 1931 classic Frankenstein and becomes possessed by the experience of it. blurring her understanding of art\, mortality\, and violence. Produced as Franco’s long regime was nearing its end\, THE SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE is a bewitching portrait of a child’s haunted inner life and one of the most visually arresting movies ever made\, a work of darkly lyrical beauty with a touch of magical-realist horror. …And it also happens to be the perfect arthouse accompaniment to Arkadin’s month-long exploration of Female Frankensteins! \n\n\n\nWhy should Jessie Buckley have all the fun? We’re celebrating brides\, monsters\, mad doctors and more this month with our FEMALE FRANKENSTEINS series\, featuring thrills\, chills\, dark laughs and twisted loves\, all culminating with our screenings of the widely-acclaimed new horror-comedy DEAD LOVER! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. However\, we encourage researching titles to determine if a screening may contain content that could be upsetting to you. Please feel free to contact us for guidance on specific films. It’s time to join Barbarella on a series of cosmic adventures in this lavish\, lascivious Dino De Laurentiis production based on the risqué French comic book series. SUMMARY:Jan Švankmajer's ALICE (1988) presented by Dark Dream Cinema
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDark Dream Cinema is a monthly film series devoted to the creeping undercurrents of the arthouse scene\, hosted by Michael Morlaine. \n\n\n\n“It’s experimental\, unusual\, a little mad\, and definitely not an Alice adaptation to show the kids. Unless you want to give them nightmares for weeks.” – Joe’s Horror Reviews \n\n\n\nThe dark heart of Alice in Wonderland was never more faithfully captured than by stop-motion maestro Jan Švankmajer\, who rendered its well-worn imagery into a startling new vision. By animating an array of found items—including raw meat\, taxidermy\, porcelain dolls\, and playing cards—Švankmajer crafted a Wonderland all his own\, a haunting realm of fantastic sights and disturbing juxtapositions. Hailed as a landmark of modern animation\, Alice blends the imagination of Lewis Carroll with the grotesquerie of Joel-Peter Witkin to produce an experience like no other. A truly singular work of art\, it offers a glimpse into another world\, one of joyful terrors that cavort amidst death and decay. \n\n\n\nArrive early for a preshow of spooky stop-motion from around the world\, starting at 6pm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Marlene Dietrich in queer-coded pre-code classic MOROCCO (1930)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A magnificent exploration of passion\, featuring iconic gender fluidity…This film is cinematic poetry ” – Jay Jacobson \n\n\n\nMOROCCO not only introduced Marlene Dietrich to English-speaking audiences\, the film revolutionized fashion and eroticism with the androgyny of her iconic tuxedo. Here\, Morocco isn’t a real place. It’s a sensual realm of the European imagination where wealthy hedonists mingle with adventure-seekers\, and women can escape narrowly defined social and sexual roles. Gary Cooper and Adolphe Menjou also appear in this film\, but who was looking at them? Marlene Dietrich steams up the screen in her first appearance in an American film – her second in a cycle of seven collaborations with director Josef von Sternberg. MOROCCO is a lavishly detailed\, unashamedly romantic frame-story for Dietrich’s mesmerizing musical numbers. In the film’s most heavily publicized scene\, Dietrich swaggers through a cabaret wearing a tuxedo and top hat by costume designer Travis Banton\, before kissing a female patron. Her playful gender satire catapulted women’s trousers into the fashion mainstream\, and shaped queer iconography for generations to come. It also inspired Yves Saint Laurent’s 1966 Le Smoking collection of women’s pantsuits. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:KOYAANISQATSI (1983) presented by Lost in the Arthouse
\n\n\n\n“One of the most eye-opening works of art created in the late 20th century” – The Cinephile Fix \n\n\n\nAn unconventional work in every way\, Godfrey Reggio’s KOYAANISQATSI was a sensation upon its initial release and retains a cult-like following to this day. A wordless\, yet entrancing collage of Philip Glass’s hypnotic score and cinematographer Ron Fricke’s monumental imagery\, this trippy survey of the Northern Hemisphere’s rapidly changing environment shuttles viewers from one jaw-dropping vision to the next\, moving from images of untouched nature to others depicting human beings’ increasing dependence on technology. Heavily utilizing trippy time-lapse photography to suggest the frenetic pace of modern life\, KOYAANISQATSI—whose title comes from a Hopi word meaning “life out of balance”—is a plea for humanity to find some equilibrium with the fragile planet we all inhabit. Whatever you think of its hippie-ish ecological message\, the film remains one of cinema’s great transformative experiences. SUMMARY:Psychedelic sleaze-burger DESPERATION RISING (1989) presented by St. Louis Video Society
DESCRIPTION:SAINT LOUIS VIDEO SOCIETY digs deep in its extensive archives to present the weirdest\, wildest\, most incredible VHS obscurities. Always free\, always presented by Video Society archivist James Milam! \n\n\n\nWhat if David Lynch dropped acid and remade Scarface? This is just one of thousands of questions that will not be answered while your brain is invaded by DESPERATION RISING. Starring Nick “Son of John” Cassavetes and dozens of real-life Los Angeles gang members who appear as part of a rehabilitation program\, this is the best movie on earth about a stockbroker seminar that turns into a cocaine-fueled rage war. DESPERATION RISING is filled with dad karate\, phone sex\, real sex\, cocaine\, humans exploding\, talking parrots\, Uzi battles\, more cocaine\, and rappin’ kids. This psychedelic sleaze-burger could only be better if director/star Jason Holt wrote and recorded Casio-soaked yacht rock songs with titles like “Get Ready To Rip” and “Love Blooms” for the soundtrack. Oh wait. He did! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:"Wicked\, witchy folk freak horror" ENYS MEN (2022) — 𝔉𝔬𝔩𝔨 ℌ𝔬𝔯𝔯𝔬𝔯 𝔄𝔯𝔬𝔲𝔫𝔡 𝔗𝔥𝔢 𝔚𝔬𝔯𝔩𝔡
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A wicked\, witchy folk freak horror… the witchy atmosphere Jenkin conjures is spine-tinglingly devilish\, the poetic manifestation of the subject’s deep grief\, ever-ambiguous and frosty\, taking on the aching melancholy of loss. The present trend of elevated horror be damned: this is how you do it.” – The Playlist \n\n\n\nENYS MEN is a mind-bending Cornish folk horror set in 1973 that unfolds on an uninhabited island off the Cornish coast. A wildlife volunteer’s (Mary Woodvine) daily observations of a rare flower take a dark turn into the strange and metaphysical as she descends into a terrifying madness that challenges her grip on reality and pushes her into a living nightmare. Is the landscape not only alive but sentient? Shot by Jenkin on grainy 16mm color film stock and with post-synched sound\, the form feels both innovative and authentic to the period. Filmed on location around the disused tin mines of West Penwith\, it is also an ode to Cornwall’s rich folklore and natural beauty. Evoking the feeling of discovering a reel of never-before-seen celluloid unspooling in a haunted movie palace\, this provocative and masterful vision of horror asserts Mark Jenkin as one of the U.K.’s most exciting and singular filmmakers. \n\n\n\nEach month\, Arkadin presents a selection of FOLK HORROR AROUND THE WORLD\, creepy folktales from all corner of the globe to give you the Sunday scaries. \n\n\n\nThis screening is part of Arkadin’s April 2026 series\, HOW DOES YOUR GARDEN GROW?—featuring botanical wonders\, homicidal flora\, and secret gardens for you to make your escape. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:'70s sci-fi classic SILENT RUNNING (1972)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“One of the greatest movies ever made. So often overlooked in the canon of great science-fiction films. To this day\, it remains one of the most moving films I’ve ever seen.” – Mark Kermode \n\n\n\nIn 1968\, visual effects pioneer Douglas Trumbull designed the ground-breaking special photographic effects of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Four years later\, he stamped his own indelible mark on the science fiction genre with his mesmerizing directorial debut\, SILENT RUNNING. In the not-so-distant future\, Earth is barren of all flora and fauna\, with what remains of the planet’s former ecosystems preserved aboard a fleet of greenhouses orbiting in space. When the crews are ordered to destroy the remaining specimens\, one botanist\, Freeman Lowell (Bruce Dern)\, rebels and flees towards Saturn in a desperate bid to preserve his own little piece of Earth that was\, accompanied only by the ship’s three adorable service robots\, which he nicknames Huey\, Dewey\, and Louie. Featuring a captivating\, 100%-committed central performance by Dern\, visual effects that rival anything in Star Wars\, folk songs by Joan Baez\, and a powerful ecological message\, SILENT RUNNING is a haunting and prescient sci-fi classic that resonates just as strongly today as it did upon its original release. \n\n\n\nThis screening is part of Arkadin’s April 2026 series\, HOW DOES YOUR GARDEN GROW?—featuring botanical wonders\, homicidal flora\, and secret gardens for you to make your escape. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOTHER WORLDS brings you to strange new realms through science fiction and fantasy.
