In no time at all\, a ride with her daughter becomes a night of survival\, as they find themselves hunted by a monster they can barely see\, but who can see them just fine. \n\n\n\nRocking the cathartic-horror trend better than most of its contemporaries\, this here-and-gone A24 thriller found the exact middle ground between grim family drama and kickass creature feature. Boiling it down to the bare essentials—darkness\, the woods\, a broken-down car\, a kid\, a mom\, and a monster—it deals in the symbolic horror of the 2010s while delivering a high-octane pulverizer that’s as heavy on the action as it is the emotional heft.
