SUMMARY:THE WAR OF THE WORLDS (1953) w/ Orson Welles radio broadcast pre-show @ 3 pm -- 𝕠𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕣 𝕨𝕠𝕣𝕝𝕕𝕤
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The best of the postwar American science-fiction films; the Martian machines have a quality of real terror\, their sinister apparitions\, prowlings and pulverisings are spectacularly well done\, and the scenes of panic and destruction are staged with real flair!” – Monthly Film Bulletin \n\n\n\nThankfully\, neither Ice Cube nor Amazon Prime comes within a mile of this timeless classic of science-fiction terror! A mysterious\, meteorlike object has landed in a small California town. All clocks have stopped. A fleet of glowing green UFOs hovers menacingly over the entire globe. The Martian invasion of Earth has begun\, and it seems that nothing—neither military might nor the scientific know-how of nuclear physicist (and MST3k “mad” namesake) Dr. Clayton Forrester (Gene Barry)—can stop it. In the expert hands of genre specialists George Pal and Byron Haskin\, H. G. Wells’s end-of-civilization classic receives a chilling Cold War–era update\, complete with hallucinatory Technicolor and visionary\, Oscar-winning special effects. Emblazoned with iconographic images of 1950s science fiction\, The War of the Worlds is both an influential triumph of visual imagination and a still-disquieting document of the wonder and terror of the atomic age. \n\n\n\nCome out early for a pre-show starting at 3 pm where we’ll listen to the broadcast that traumatized a nation\, Orson Welles’ legendary 1938 dramatic radio adaptation of H.G. Wells’ novel. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. However\, we encourage researching titles to determine if a screening may contain content that could be upsetting to you. Please feel free to contact us for guidance on specific films. Information about content can also be found on Common Sense Media\, IMDB and DoesTheDogDie.com\, as well as through general internet searches. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. SUMMARY:Jim Jarmusch's NIGHT ON EARTH (1991) w/ Tom Waits pre-show presented by Strange Brew
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis film is presented by St. Louis’s long-running cult film series Strange Brew — winner of the 2025 A-List Award for Best Movie Night in St. Louis. Strange Brew programmer Jon Scorfina will provide an introduction. \n\n\n\nNIGHT ON EARTH contains five vignettes linked together by parallel narratives of bizarre taxi rides. The film tells the individual stories of taxi drivers and their unique passengers over the course of one night in five different cities: Los Angeles\, New York City\, Paris\, Rome and Helsinki. Written\, produced and directed by American independent filmmaker Jim Jarmusch\, his 1991 anthology film features a huge ensemble cast that includes Winona Ryder\, Gena Rowlands\, Giancarlo Esposito\, Rosie Perez\, Roberto Benigni and more\, as well as a soundtrack by eccentric composer Tom Waits. Each sonder-evoking story\, some of which are comedic like “Helmut & Yo-Yo” in New York and others heartbreakingly tragic such as the determined taxi driver’s tale in Helsinki\, paint the poetic\, life-affirming commonality of strangers’ brief interactions that could be happening simultaneously anytime\, anywhere on the planet.   \n\n\n\nA Tom Waits music video pre-show will begin at 6:30 pm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. Watts\, Cinema Essentials \n\n\n\nThe first film adaptation of the legendary EC horror comics\, Amicus’s Tales from the Crypt provided the midway point between the demise of EC in 1956 and the debut of the titular HBO series in 1989. Comprised of five stories from several EC titles\, the film features such stars as Joan Collins and Peter Cushing giving life to some of the most morbid tales ever splashed across a four-color page. The segments are: \n\n\n\n\nAnd All Through the House: While attempting to dispose of her husband’s body on Christmas Eve\, a young widow finds herself trapped by a psychotic Santa on the prowl.\n\n\n\nReflection of Death: The survivor of a car crash is met with horror from passerby as he tries to make his way home.\n\n\n\nPoetic Justice: A lonely old man is driven to the brink by his cruel-hearted neighbors\, but enjoys his own karmic retribution.\n\n\n\nWish You Were Here: In a modern update of “The Monkey’s Paw”\, a ruthless businessman is granted three wishes\, and lives to regret each one.\n\n\n\nBlind Alleys: The residents of a Dickensian home for the blind exact revenge upon their cruel new headmaster.\n\n\n\n\nCome celebrate the season of ghost stories as we close out the year with this classic clutch of tales. Show up early for an HBO preshow at 6:10pm! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Animated Christmas Folk Horror KRABAT: THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE (1978) -- $5
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Eerie\, creepy…fantastic\, mystical\, and oddly beautiful. A lost treasure of early animation\, nearly unknown to the English speaking world.” – R-Massive \n\n\n\nDirected by Karel Zeman\, the wildly imaginative “Czech Méliès” behind classics like The Fabulous Baron Munchausen and Invention for Destruction\, KRABAT: THE SORCERER’S APPRENTICE is a hauntingly beautiful tale of black magic perfect for the Christmas season. Animated with papercraft models\, KRABAT is like the darkest children’s storybook ever written come to life. Based on the novel by Otfried Preußler\, itself adapted from a Sorbian folktale\, Zeman’s film tells the story of a young boy initiated into the mysterious world of magic by an evil sorcerer who runs a kind of evil Hogwarts out of a creepy old mill. Filled with dark humor\, bestial transmogrification\, and a chilly winter atmosphere\, this little-known folk-horror masterpiece feels as if it emerged fully formed from the mysterious forests of Central Europe. \n\n\n\nEach month\, DRAWN VISIONS presents an outré gem from the wild\, wonderful world of animation. Focusing on the strange\, the underseen\, and the unclassifiable\, this series proves cartoons aren’t just for kids\, they’re for total freaks too! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. SUMMARY:Greta Gerwig's LITTLE WOMEN (2019) presented by Girlhood
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGirlhood is a semi-regular series hosted by Arkadin co-owner Sarah Baraba that spotlights stories of sisterhood on the silver screen. \n\n\n\n“Every adaption of Little Women has something that sets it apart from others but few have the sheer emotion and power that we see here with Gerwig’s interpretation. SUMMARY:Lynne Ramsay's MORVERN CALLAR (2002) w/ Aphex Twin pre-show presented by Lost in the Arthouse
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLOST IN THE ARTHOUSE is a monthly series hosted by Arkadin co-owner Keith Watson that takes you to hidden corners of filmdom far from Hollywood. From must-see classics to obscurities waiting to be discovered\, these films stand at cinema’s bleeding edge. \n\n\n\n“A mesmerizing cinematic poem from the first frame to the last.” -Glenn Kenny\, Premiere \n\n\n\nThe Christmas season was never bluer than it is in Lynne Ramsay’s oblique masterpiece of dislocation MORVERN CALLAR. The film opens on Christmas morning as the title character (Samantha Morton) awakes to find her boyfriend face down in a pool of blood\, dead by his own hand. He has left behind a suicide note\, a mixtape\, Christmas presents\, money for a funeral\, and an unpublished novel. Faced with this crisis\, what can Morvern do? Put her name on the novel\, submit it to a publisher\, hack up her boyfriend’s body\, and head to Spain with the cash\, of course! What might sound lurid or deeply unpleasant plays\, in Ramsay’s masterful hands\, as an utterly entrancing study of the vagaries of the human heart and mind. Morvern is an arresting enigma brought to full mercurial life by Morton in one of the 21st century’s finest performances. Powered by one of the coolest soundtracks of all time—featuring tracks by Can\, Stereolab\, Aphex Twin\, and more—MORVERN CALLAR is haunting\, hypnotic\, and\, more than 20 years on\, remains one of cinema’s most beautiful unsolved riddles. \n\n\n\nThis program will also feature Lynne Ramsay’s Christmas-set short film GASMAN. \n\n\n\nAnd come out early for an Aphex Twin pre-show starting at 6:30 pm! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Cecil B. DeMille's epic of orgiastic excess THE SIGN OF THE CROSS (1932) presented by Forbidden Hollywood
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nForbidden Hollywood is a monthly series hosted by STL film critic Katie Carter celebrating the Pre-Code films of the early 1930s\, when movies were wild\, racy\, transgressive\, and tons of fun. \n\n\n\nDeemed “some of the boldest censor-bait ever attempted in a motion picture\,” Cecil B. DeMille’s 1932 comeback after a string of flops finds the director known for his opulent epics working at his most unhinged and horniest. THE SIGN OF THE CROSS tells the story of forbidden love between Roman prefect Marcus Superbus (Fredric March) and Christian woman Mercia (Elissa Landi) during the time when Ancient Rome was ruled over by the mad Emperor Nero (Charles Laughton). Any sanctimonious messaging in DeMille’s adaptation of the play of the same name is overrun by its brash portrait of excess and depravity. Whether it was the queer content—both in regards to Laughton’s portrayal of Nero and the lesbian seduction dance intended to sway the pious Mercia away from her faith—the brutal torture scenes and violent arena climax pitting everything from Amazon warriors to pygmies to an assortment of wild animals against each other (prompting reports of audience members fainting in shock)\, or the famous scene in which a nude Empress Poppaea (Claudette Colbert) bathes in milk\, there was no shortage of sordid content in THE SIGN OF THE CROSS leading to film historian Mark Vieira referring to it as the most “controversial” film of the pre-Code era\, and to the creation of the Catholic Legion of Decency that ultimately contributed to its end. \n\n\n\n“Cecil B. DeMille’s insanely lavish treatise on the decline and fall of Western Civilization… was made in 1932\, shortly before the Production Code fell so heavily on Hollywood\, and DeMille seizes the opportunity to indulge the full range of his perversity one last time… Thoroughly mad and immensely enjoyable.” – Dave Kehr\, Chicago Reader \n\n\n\nDue to inclement weather\, this screening was rescheduled from Dec. 1\, 2025\, to Jan. 5\, 2026. SUMMARY:I'VE HEARD THE MERMAIDS SINGING (1987) presented by Girlhood
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGirlhood is a semi-regular series hosted by Arkadin co-owner Sarah Baraba that spotlights stories of sisterhood on the silver screen. \n\n\n\n“So fresh\, so funny\, so charming\, it amazes the heart.” – Judith Crist \n\n\n\nPolly doesn’t need much. She’s perfectly content to spend her days people-watching\, snapping photos and transforming her tiny apartment into a make-shift darkroom. And daydreaming. Boy\, does she love dreaming. Unfortunately that doesn’t pay the bills\, so she finds work via a temp agency as an assistant. Also unfortunately\, she’s not good at that and has bounced from position to position. But\, for whatever reason\, her new boss at an art gallery has taken a shine to her and offers her a full time gig. She quickly puts her boss on a pedestal and becomes completely enamored with the art scene. Polly decides to anonymously submit some of her own photographs to the curator in hopes of winning her admiration\, only to witness her ripping her work to shreds. Now disenchanted\, Polly also finds herself in over her head when she unintentionally uncovers an unsavory secret at the gallery that could ruin her boss.  \n\n\n\nAn offbeat and heartfelt first feature from filmmaker Patricia Rozema\, I’VE HEARD THE MERMAIDS SINGING captures the highs and lows of finding your footing in adulthood with dreamy surrealistic touches and a delightfully whimsical flair.  \n\n\n\nTᕼIᔕ ᖴIᒪᗰ Iᔕ ᔕᑕᖇEEᑎIᑎG ᗩᔕ ᑭᗩᖇT Oᖴ ᗩᖇKᗩᗪIᑎ’ᔕ ᗯEIᖇᗪ ᑕᗩᑎᗩᗪᗩ ᔕEᖇIEᔕ\, ᖴEᗩTᑌᖇIᑎG OᖴᖴᗷEᗩT\, ᗰᗩᑭᒪE-ᗪᖇEᑎᑕᕼEᗪ ᗪEᒪIGᕼTᔕ ᖴᖇOᗰ TᕼE GᖇEᗩT ᗯᕼITE ᑎOᖇTᕼ. SUMMARY:PUNISHMENT PARK (1971) -- second screening added!
DESCRIPTION:RESERVE TICKETS – 5 PM\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReserve tickets – 7:30 pm\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPUNISHMENT PARK is screening twice\, at 5 pm and 7:30 pm. Both screenings are free. All 5 pm tickets have been reserved. A waitlist will open at 4:30 pm. \n\n\n\n\nIn homage to Renee Nicole Good\, an unarmed mother gunned down by an ICE agent in her own car\, and in recognition of the widespread crackdown on protest by the US government\, including ICE’s teargassing of students at Minneapolis’s Roosevelt High School the same day Good was killed\, Arkadin would like to offer Sunday’s screening of PUNISHMENT PARK for free to all. \n\n\n\nThis film\, about the criminalization of dissent and the violent lengths the US state will go to protect its own racist\, imperialist\, anti-woman power structure\, could not be more timely. \n\n\n\nPUNISHMENT PARK is legendary for provoking intense reactions from audiences\, and we hope this screening can foster a vigorous discussion within our own community about the crisis our country faces and the path forward. \n\n\n\nWe also encourage you to make a donation to the family of Renee Good. \n\n\n\n\n“Is this the most powerful protest film ever made? Raw\, bracing\, visceral and confrontational…feels as vital today as it did back in 1971” – Little White Lies \n\n\n\nOn October 30\, 2025\, one day after his 90th birthday\, legendary British filmmaker Peter Watkins ascended to that great commune in the sky\, leaving behind an uncompromising legacy of socially engaged\, politically radical\, and formally daring cinema that still stands as a challenge to the narcotizing clichés of mainstream filmmaking. We salute Watkins’ life and work with a screening of one of his most blistering and controversial films\, PUNISHMENT PARK\, now celebrating its 60th anniversary. Set in an alternate version of 1970 in which president Richard Nixon has invoked the McCarran Act to crack down on anti-war protesters\, the film imagines a tribunal in which hippies\, Black radicals\, feminists\, and communists are put on trial for subversion. Once convicted\, they’re offered the chance to serve a three-day sentence in “Punishment Park\,” a forbidding patch of the Mojave Desert where they’ll be hunted by police officers and National Guardsmen in a deadly live training exercise. If they survive\, they earn their freedom. But will anyone make it out alive? In this age of ICE raids\, Trumpian fascism\, and hostility to dissent\, PUNISHMENT PARK is absolutely essential viewing. \n\n\n\nLOST IN THE ARTHOUSE is a monthly series hosted by Arkadin co-owner Keith Watson that takes you to hidden corners of filmdom far from Hollywood. SUMMARY:Breakdance Battle Comedy MISMATCHED COUPLES presented by St. Louis Video Society
DESCRIPTION:SAINT LOUIS VIDEO SOCIETY digs deep in its extensive archives to present the weirdest\, wildest\, most incredible VHS obscurities. Always free\, always presented by Video Society archivist James Milam! \n\n\n\nSTLVS PRESENTS martial arts legends Donnie Yen and Yuen Woo-Ping in a decidedly different kung fu context with MISMATCHED COUPLES on Monday\, January 12th! Though these two are most known for kicking asses in films like HERO\, IP MAN\, IRON MONKEY\, and SNAKE IN EAGLE’S SHADOW (to name a few) this film is an absolutely freaky\, comedy classic that focuses on competitive breakdancing. That’s right…Donnie’s character Eddie is a breakdance battler and is hopelessly lost in love. Yuen\, in a slapstick supporting role as Mini\, causes serious problems wherever he goes… It’s a surprisingly funny and frantic experience\, and a film that hasn’t really been properly released in the United States. From Tsui Hark’s Cinema City production company\, MISMATCHED COUPLES is a fresh and funky start to your New Year! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:CURSE OF THE DEMON (a.k.a. Night of the Demon\, 1957) -- 𝔉𝔬𝔩𝔨 ℌ𝔬𝔯𝔯𝔬𝔯 𝔄𝔯𝔬𝔲𝔫𝔡 𝔗𝔥𝔢 𝔚𝔬𝔯𝔩𝔡
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A beguiling and enveloping tale of the power of the occult and the susceptibility of the human mind to suggestion.” – Backseat Mafia \n\n\n\nNo director before or since Jacques Tourneur has so expertly tapped into the eerie power of suggestion. With subtle gestures and simple images\, the horror maestro evokes unseen forces of unfathomable evil. And nowhere is Tourneur’s mastery of creeping terror on fuller display than in his late-period masterpiece\, Night of the Demon. Released in the US\, as CURSE OF THE DEMON\, the film tells the tale of American professor John Holden\, who arrives in London for a conference on parapsychology only to discover that the colleague he was supposed to meet has been killed in a freak accident the day before. Investigating the death\, Holden stumbles upon a devil-worshipping cult that may shake his faith in science. Tourneur never wanted to show the monster at the film’s heart\, and while its B-movie campiness is undeniable\, it’s also pretty f’ing cool too. SUMMARY:THE SHORT ANIMATED FILMS OF YURI NORSTEIN feat. Hedgehog in the Fog + more!
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“[Yuri Norstein] is considered by many to be not just the best animator of his era\, but the best of all time.” – Washington Post \n\n\n\nArkadin is ecstatic to present\, in beautifully restored versions\, some of the greatest animated films ever made. Russian animator Yuri Norstein’s work is luminous and poetic\, combining the simple majesty of fairy-tale storytelling with painterly compositions worthy of comparison to master artists like Viktor Vasnetsov and Ivan Shishkin. Norstein’s Tale of Tales was voted the greatest animated film of all time in several polls. \n\n\n\nThe program will consist of the following shorts: \n\n\n\nTHE 25TH\, THE FIRST DAY – 1968\, 9 min.\, co-dir. Arkadiy Tyurin. Norstein’s first film is a visually striking tribute to the Bolshevik Revolution on October 25th. \n\n\n\nSEASONS – 1969\, 9 min.  A man and woman ride through the forest while the seasons change around them in this lovely\, elegiac short set to music by Tchaikovsky.  \n\n\n\nCHILDREN AND MATCHES – 1969\, 5 min.  Norstein’s rarely-seen educational short about the dangers of matches\, from ancient times up to today.   \n\n\n\nTHE BATTLE OF KERZHENETS – 1971\, 10 min.\, co-dir. Ivan Ivanov-Vano.  Arguably Norstein’s first great animated film\, inspired by the legend of the City of Kitezh which disappeared into a lake to avoid Mongol invaders.   \n\n\n\nTHE FOX & THE HARE – 1973\, 12 min. Norstein’s utterly charming short about a temperamental “house-filching fox” who boots a poor rabbit out of its home.  The rabbit turns to a wolf\, bear\, bull and rooster for help\, with surprising results.   \n\n\n\nTHE HERON & THE CRANE – 1974\, 10 min.  An awkward crane and a high-spirited heron go back and forth on marrying each other\, in this heartbreaking short about romantic misunderstandings.   \n\n\n\nHEDGEHOG IN THE FOG – 1975\, 11 min.  The deceptively epic journey of the tiny hedgehog\, filled with impossible marvels and dangers:  a shimmering white horse and a crafty owl.  A fluttering bat\, a falling leaf and the ever-present curtain of fog.  Widely considered one of the greatest animated films ever made. \n\n\n\nA DAY BEFORE OUR ERA – 1977\, 6 min.  Co-dir. Fyodor Khitruk. This experimental collage of images of the French Revolution was apparently abandoned before it was finished\, and remains one of Norstein’s rarest films.  \n\n\n\nTHE TALE OF TALES – 1979\, 29 min.  Norstein’s longest film to date\, TALE is a story about stories\, a dream of many dreams.  A giant bull and a little girl skip rope.  Couples dance under a streetlight until the male partners disappear\, headed off to war.  And through it all\, the Little Grey Wolf watches silently at the rondo of human loves and losses. \n\n\n\nAll short films in Russian with English subtitles. SUMMARY:Busby Berkeley's FOOTLIGHT PARADE (1933) presented by Forbidden Hollywood
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nForbidden Hollywood is a monthly series hosted by STL film critic Katie Carter celebrating the Pre-Code films of the early 1930s\, when movies were wild\, racy\, transgressive\, and tons of fun. \n\n\n\nScreen gangster James Cagney trades in Gatling guns for tap shoes in Lloyd Bacon’s star-studded 1933 backstage musical FOOTLIGHT PARADE. He plays Chester Kent\, a theatrical producer whose job is on the line thanks to the popularity of new talking pictures— until he devises an assembly line method of creating and staging live musical prologues to be performed before a movie. The film’s elaborate finale is comprised of three numbers that represent the pinnacle of choreographer Busby Berkeley’s work: the innuendo-laced “Honeymoon Hotel\,” the patriotic “Shanghai Lil\,” and the erotic “By a Waterfall\,” featuring Berkeley’s iconic human waterfall. But FOOTLIGHT PARADE is also a zippy comedy beyond its song-and-dance numbers\, bolstered by the talents of Joan Blondell\, Dick Powell\, Ruby Keeler\, Claire Dodd\, Guy Kibbee\, and Frank McHugh and brimming with more risqué dialogue and saucy situations than you can shake a chorus girl’s leg at\, making it a true pre-Code essential. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Drew Barrymore in POISON IVY (1992) presented by Strange Brew
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis film is presented by St. Louis’s long-running cult film series Strange Brew — winner of the 2025 A-List Award for Best Movie Night in St. Louis. Strange Brew programmer Jon Scorfina will provide an introduction. \n\n\n\n“Why settle for the usual walk around the exploitation block when [Poison Ivy] offers a wild ride with the top down into uncharted territory?” – Rolling Stone \n\n\n\nDrew Barrymore stars as a seductive teenager nicknamed “Ivy” who befriends an introverted high school student named Sylvie (Sara Gilbert) and cons her way into her wealthy family in POISON IVY (1992). Sylvie and Ivy quickly become best friends. Ivy moves into Sylvie’s family’s home and the two girls begin exchanging clothes and even share a bed. Ivy ultimately helps Sylvie come out of her withdrawn shell. However\, Ivy deviously charms Sylvie’s chronically ill mother (Cheryl Ladd) and develops an uncomfortable relationship with her father (Tom Skerritt)\, a recovering alcoholic; soon sinister cracks in their friendship and family devolve into something more deadly. \n\n\n\nDirected by Katt Shea\, POISON IVY became the perfect vehicle for Drew Barrymore to return from a brief acting hiatus and transition from a troubled\, child actress into more adult roles. Billed as an erotic thriller during the genre’s 1990s heyday — distributor New Line Cinema even described the film as “a teenage Fatal Attraction\,” — POISON IVY has recently been reinterpreted and embraced as a tragic sapphic romance. POISON IVY was initially a box office bomb but became a word-of-mouth cult classic\, spawning three direct-to-video sequels and landing the character Ivy on Entertainment Weekly’s list of cinema’s top “bad girls.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. However\, we encourage researching titles to determine if a screening may contain content that could be upsetting to you. Please feel free to contact us for guidance on specific films. SUMMARY:DERANGED (1974) presented Dark Dream Cinema
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDark Dream Cinema is a monthly film series devoted to the creeping undercurrents of the arthouse scene\, hosted by Michael Morlaine. \n\n\n\n“There is a wonderfully diseased invention evident throughout Deranged. Camerawork\, editing and production design all complement the combination of sinister\, gritty horror and cringe-inducing dark humour.” John Costello\, This Is Horror \n\n\n\nIn the pantheon of gutbucket horror\, no real-life figure looms larger than Ed Gein\, the Wisconsin handyman whose noxious choice of home decor labeled him a legend. Despite having inspired three of the most infamous horror films ever made—Psycho\, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre\, and The Silence of the Lambs—Ed’s story was most faithfully captured in this no-budget B-flick from the hinterlands of nowhere. Following Gein surrogate Ezra Cobb (played to creepy perfection by Roberts Blossom\, in his only starring role)\, Deranged follows the actual narrative as closely as it can\, while leaving room for the requisite damsels in distress. Featuring early effects work from Tom Savini\, the film’s hand-hewn quality breathes ghoulish life into the genuine nastiness of the whole ordeal. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Charlie Chaplin's CITY LIGHTS (1931) presented by Silents\, Please! STL
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis film is presented by Silents\, Please! STL and will feature a special introduction from SPSTL’s Kate Stewart. \n\n\n\nCITY LIGHTS\, the most cherished film by Charlie Chaplin\, is also his ultimate Little Tramp chronicle. The writer-director-star achieved new levels of grace\, in both physical comedy and dramatic poignancy\, with this silent tale of a lovable vagrant falling for a young blind woman who sells flowers on the street (a magical Virginia Cherrill) and mistakes him for a millionaire. Though this Depression-era smash was made after the advent of sound\, Chaplin remained steadfast in his love for the expressive beauty of the pre-talkie form. The result was the epitome of his art and the crowning achievement of silent comedy. \n\n\n\n“If only one of Charles Chaplin’s films could be preserved\, CITY LIGHTS would come the closest to representing all the different notes of his genius. It contains the slapstick\, the pathos\, the pantomime\, the effortless physical coordination\, the melodrama\, the bawdiness\, the grace\, and\, of course\, the Little Tramp–the character said\, at one time\, to be the most famous image on earth.” – Roger Ebert \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. SUMMARY:THE REFLECTING SKIN (1990) -- 𝔉𝔬𝔩𝔨 ℌ𝔬𝔯𝔯𝔬𝔯 𝔄𝔯𝔬𝔲𝔫𝔡 𝔗𝔥𝔢 𝔚𝔬𝔯𝔩𝔡
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Influenced…by Alice in Wonderland and the paintings of Andrew Wyeth\, THE REFLECTING SKIN is a tour de force of twisted gothic imagination\, its deadpan horrors only enhanced by the stunning beauty of Dick Pope’s photography.” – Sight & Sound \n\n\n\nAn instant cult classic when it premiered to sold out screenings at Cannes in 1990\, THE REFLECTING SKIN is a nightmarish vision of the American dream. Growing up in the 1950s in small-town Idaho\, 8-year-old Seth and his friends play a prank on the town recluse\, a mysterious English widow named Dolphin Blue (Tony winner Lindsay Duncan). After his father tells him stories of vampires\, Seth becomes convinced Dolphin is a vampire\, stealing the souls of his neighborhood friends one by one. When his older brother Cameron (Lord of the Rings‘ Viggo Mortensen\, in one of his first starring roles)\, returns home from military service in the Pacific and takes a liking to Dolphin\, Seth feels it’s up to him to save Cameron from his friends’ fate. With stunning visuals recalling Edward Hopper paintings and a surreal blend of horror and pitch-black humor\, THE REFLECTING SKIN is a “stunningly beautiful…Gothic masterpiece” (The Guardian). \n\n\n\nEach month\, Arkadin presents a selection of FOLK HORROR AROUND THE WORLD\, creepy folktales from all corner of the globe to give you the Sunday scaries. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:MAUVAIS SANG (a.k.a. Bad Blood\, 1986) presented by Lost in the Arthouse
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLOST IN THE ARTHOUSE is a monthly series hosted by Arkadin co-owner Keith Watson that takes you to hidden corners of filmdom far from Hollywood. From must-see classics to obscurities waiting to be discovered\, these films stand at cinema’s bleeding edge. \n\n\n\n“A masterpiece of ecstatic cinema from 1986… With an emotional world akin to that of the New Wave masters\, a visual vocabulary that pays tribute to their later works\, and a visionary sensibility that owes much to Jean Cocteau’s fantasies\, Carax suggests the burden of young genius in a world of mighty patriarchs who aren’t budging.” – The New Yorker \n\n\n\nWith this giddily romantic\, exquisitely stylized sophomore feature\, Leos Carax cemented his status as one of the boldest filmmakers of his generation. In a world ravaged by STBO\, a sexually transmitted disease only acquired by people having sex without any emotion\, a rebellious young man (Denis Lavant) is recruited by a veteran criminal (Michel Piccoli) to steal the antidote. He soon falls dangerously in love with his new associate’s lover (Juliette Binoche)—an infatuation that catapults him out into the street to run to the pounding beat of David Bowie’s “Modern Love” in one of the most exhilarating moments of cinema (so powerful\, it was cribbed note for note by Noah Baumbach in Frances Ha). In what may well be the defining film of 1980s French film\, Leos Carax revived the the spirit of early Godard\, creating a bold and beautiful gangster film-cum-romance that serves as a vibrant love letter to the possibilities of cinema. \n\n\n\nThis film is screening as part of Arkadin’s February 2026 series\, OFFBEAT ROMANCE\, featuring quirky tales of oddballs in love. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Cult Classic Sci-Fi Indie THE BROTHER FROM ANOTHER PLANET (1984)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“ONE OF THE BEST SCI-FI MOVIES OF ALL TIME! A gentle-hearted satire on race and the immigrant experience…science fiction at its most succinct and humane.” – Slant Magazine \n\n\n\nBlending sci‑fi\, social satire\, and street‑level realism into an indie cult classic\, THE BROTHER FROM ANOTHER PLANET takes a sly look at social divisions through the eyes of a mute\, three-toed extraterrestrial slave who just so happens to look like an African-American man. Written and directed by indie legend John Sayles (Lone Star\, Matewan)\, the film wittily exposes the absurdities of race\, power\, and cultural identification as The Brother finds community in Harlem while hiding out from international bounty hunters who seek to take him back to his home planet. It’s a quirky\, political\, and unmistakably human riff on the classic immigrant’s story brought to life by Joe Morton’s soulful yet wordless lead performance. \n\n\n\nOTHER WORLDS brings you to strange new realms through science fiction and fantasy. Featuring classics\, hidden gems\, and cult favorites\, this series offers a mind-bending retreat from our mundane reality. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:$3 MONDAY MYSTERY MOVIE: Bizarre Animated Lesbian Sci-Fi Musical
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn the last Monday of every month\, Arkadin chooses an underseen deep cut to inflict upon an unwitting audience. Though the genre and tone may change\, the price always remains the same: three measly bucks. You can’t afford not to get yourself a ticket! \n\n\n\nImagine an animated\, futuristic\, overtly queer version of Phantom of the Paradise and you’re maybe a third of the way to comprehending the sheer audacious WTFery of this month’s mystery selection. Little known and barely seen\, this obscure little gem features a shockingly high-profile voice cast — none of whom surely understood what exactly they were getting into. Sometimes cheesy\, other times mind-bendingly psychedelic\, this tripped-out dreamscape features some genuinely fascinating ideas and mind-blowing images alongside plenty of corny cliches and goofball moments. But there’s an endearing sincerity and genuine inventiveness that makes this film a true must-see for lovers of cinema’s stranger side. SUMMARY:PINK FLOYD: THE WALL (1982) presented by Dark Dream Cinema
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDark Dream Cinema is a monthly film series devoted to the creeping undercurrents of the arthouse scene\, hosted by Michael Morlaine. \n\n\n\n“Visually stunning\, sonically appealing\, and disturbingly still relevant.” Michael Cavendar \n\n\n\nPink (Bob Geldof) is a superstar with some serious baggage: Haunted by the father he lost in World War II\, hounded by the press and the fans and the industry itself\, and worn down by a growing sense of malaise and disconnect\, he builds an internal barrier between himself and everyone else. Eventually going catatonic\, Pink lapses into a fantasy world of nightmarish images and delusions of grandeur—but faced with his own annihilation\, he’ll need every last ounce of resolve in order to break through the wall. \n\n\n\nDetailing the mental decay of a rock god who fancies himself a despotic ruler\, The Wall redefined the rock opera and pushed the limits of dark\, surrealistic cinema. Scored with music from Pink Floyd’s immortal concept record\, and interspersed with animated sequences by Gerald Scarfe\, The Wall doubles as both a rousing cinematic experience and a cautionary tale of how easily one can exploit the public’s thirst for celebrity and bigotry as the grounding for outright fascism. In an age in which reality TV stars hijack the White House and jackbooted thugs wage war on American streets\, there’s never been a more urgent time for Pink Floyd’s call to arms than now. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person.
