SUMMARY:STL-made '90s Erotic Thriller COVER STORY (1993) presented by WashU Film and Media Archive -- FREE!
DESCRIPTION:RESERVE SEATS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTo celebrate 314 Day\, WashU Film and Media Archive (FMA) is pleased to present from our collections the only feature film by local independent producer Gregg Smith! \n\n\n\nPartially filmed in the Clayton building that houses FMA’s collections (in the historic Famous-Barr Building)\, COVER STORY was also shot at Vintage Vinyl in University City\, Alice’s and Tucker’s Bar in Central West End and in downtown STL\, among other locales. Smith and his company\, Kaleidoscope Productions\, primarily created advertisements and industrial films; COVER STORY was his attempt to start making Hollywood-style movies right here in St. Louis. The film stars legit movie stars Robert Forster (Jackie Brown) and Christopher McDonald (Happy Gilmore)\, as well as a performance by local rapper Ram Luv\, an artist signed with legendary STL hip hop label Wiz-A-Tron Records. This screening could singlehandedly double COVER STORY’s Letterboxd logs! \n\n\n\nFROM THE VHS BOX:He’s covering the story of his life… the next deadline could be his own!Matt McKendree is falling in love. There’s only one problem: the girl of his dreams is dead… or is she? Surrounding her is a cloud of mystery and intrigue. Matt decides to use his journalistic expertise to solve the puzzle. Reen Templeton was a stripper who became the targe of a vicious drug syndicate when she stole a shipment of their merchandise. Matt sets out to piece together her past. As he digs further into his investigation\, he becomes more and more obsessed with her. The search leads him through the gutters of society; the perverted counter-culture\, the ruthless street gangs\, and the all-night sex bars where anything goes. As he gets closer to the truth\, Matt finds himself of the run from hired killers determined to keep Reen dead and buried. One man’s darkest fantasy becomes his nightmarish reality in this suspenseful\, erotic thriller. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. SUMMARY:THE RULES OF ATTRACTION (2002) w/ Dawson's Creek pilot pre-show
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Somewhere between a black romantic comedy and a psychosexual horror show\, it’s a film so delightfully bratty that it could be easy to miss what lies beneath… The Rules of Attraction brims with doomed yearning.” – The Guardian \n\n\n\nRIP James Van Der Beek. While he embodied the sensitive hunk archetype on beloved teen soap opera Dawson’s Creek and in the football drama Varsity Blues\, Van Der Beek went fully against type in Roger Avary’s deliriously stylish adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ nihilistic cult novel THE RULES OF ATTRACTION. Forget everything you thought you knew about Dawson Leery and higher education. Making his directorial debut\, Avary\, the Oscar-winning co-writer of Pulp Fiction\, takes you back to school and drops you in the middle of the drugged-out\, sexed-up lives of (fictional) Camden College’s most disaffected students. Van Der Beek plays Sean Bateman\, a womanizing drug dealer whose quest for some kind of connection brings him face-to-face with Lauren (Shannyn Sossamon)\, a shy girl looking for love but saving herself for the much sought after Victor (Kip Pardue) while Paul Denton (Ian Somerhalder) wants to make a connection of his own…with Sean. With a kitted-out visual style that employs split screens\, in-your-face montage\, and too-cool-for-school needle drops\, THE RULES OF ATTRACTION is fast-paced and funny even when its characters’ lives are spinning out of control. Roger Avary and Bret Easton Ellis may not have exactly covered themselves in glory over the past couple decades\, but this darkly funny satire of life\, love and the pursuit of debauchery remains a compellingly fatalistic plunge into the deep end of depravity as well as an impeccable time capsule of early-’00s fads and fashions. \n\n\n\nTo fully celebrate Van Der Beek (as well as his millennial-icon co-stars Katie Holmes\, Joshua Jackson\, and Michelle Williams)\, we’ll be presenting the full pilot episode of Dawson’s Creek before the film\, starting at 6:15 pm. Doors open at 6 pm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. However\, we encourage researching titles to determine if a screening may contain content that could be upsetting to you. Please feel free to contact us for guidance on specific films. Information about content can also be found on Common Sense Media\, IMDB and DoesTheDogDie.com\, as well as through general internet searches. SUMMARY:Lon Chaney Speaks in THE UNHOLY THREE (1930) -- Free Public Domain Day Screening presented by WashU Libraries
DESCRIPTION:RESERVE SEATS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvery January\, new batches of old books\, music\, and films enter the public domain\, which makes them free for distribution and reimagining. To celebrate films from 1930 becoming available\, WashU is proud to present a FREE screening of Lon Chaney’s only talkie\, The Unholy Three\, on 16mm! \n\n\n\n“The finest thing about this picture is that it discloses Lon Chaney’s natural voice just exactly as it should be—deep\, vibrant\, and perfectly poised.” – Photoplay \n\n\n\nA sound remake of the Tod Browning 1925 silent version\, Chaney reprises his role as the villainous Echo\, ventriloquist leader of a criminal gang of sideshow performers (a Tod Browning set up if ever one existed). Harry Earles also returns as a belligerent co-conspirator. Their con involves a bunch of disguises and a pet shop and… a gorilla (man in a suit)? It’s a bit convoluted and melodramatic\, but a fun Pre-Code crime spree nonetheless! For his only speaking role\, MGM marketed the star as “the Man of a Thousand Voices.” Chaney also signed a sworn affidavit attesting that all the voices used in the film for his various disguise are his. \n\n\n\nThis screening is free\, but we recommend reserving tickets in advance to ensure a seat. \n\n\n\nPrint courtesy of Indiana University’s Lilly Library’s David Bradley Collection. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:STAND BY ME (1986) w/ Rob Reiner tribute pre-show @ 2:30 pm
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“An absorbing\, touching examination of the loss of innocence that undeniably deserves its place in the heart of a generation.” – Empire \n\n\n\nDuring one of the most extraordinary directorial runs in cinema’s history\, Rob Reiner made the foundational mockumentary (This Is Spinal Tap)\, the ultimate fantasy adventure (The Princess Bride)\, the quintessential rom-com (When Harry Met Sally…)\, an all-timer courtroom drama (A Few Good Men)\, and\, of course\, one of the all-time great coming-of-age films\, STAND BY ME. Arkadin pays tribute to Reiner’s legacy—cut tragically and violently short—with a screening of this enduring classic of boyhood camaraderie and the loss of innocence. Based on a short story by Steven King\, the film follows a group of friends as they traverse the wilderness to take a peek a dead body\, a journey that will change them forever. Assembling an incredible cast of future stars\, including Wil Wheaton\, River Phoenix\, Corey Feldman\, and Jerry O’Connell\, STAND BY ME showcases Reiner’s humanism\, his warm (yet sharp) sense of humor\, and his rare ability to explore life’s darker corners with a delicate touch. \n\n\n\nA Rob Reiner tribute pre-show\, featuring clips of the legendary actor-director-writer-producer will precede the film starting at 2:30 pm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:World Wide Magazine presents A Granite City Tumbleweed Christmas
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe World Wide Magazine Christmas tradition continues at Arkadin!  \n\n\n\nJim Varagona of The Pete Parisi Archives will introduce a handful of World Wide Magazine Christmas clips and then segue into episode 169 of World Wide Magazine from 1995: Vanessa Vargo in A Granite City Tumbleweed Christmas. See and hear the musical talents of The Little Songbird\, Vanessa\, to celebrate this gala yuletide season. Spend the holiday in the quaint gem of Illinois\, Granite City\, with Jack Calve and Marty! \n\n\n\nWorld Wide Magazine was a public access television program that ran in St. Louis from 1986-2001. Its creator was Peter Parisi who had a previous life in St. Louis radio before the show. The show is a variety of man-on-the-street segments\, goofy skits\, and a collective of colorful characters that gathered around Pete as the years went by. It is weird\, funny\, edgy\, and offensive\, but undoubtedly unforgettable. Since Parisi passed in 2002\, it has gained an additional following from its growing archives on YouTube. \n\n\n\nWe hope to have several members of the cast in attendance for some Q & A.  \n\n\n\nYour $5 ticket goes to further digitize shows from the archive. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:TWO BY SU: Rules of the Road (1993) + Gut Renovation (2012) w/ virtual Q&A with Su Friedrich
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOne of the foremost contemporary filmmakers of the avant-garde\, Su Friedrich is a pioneer of Queer Cinema and a ferocious provocateur. Arkadin is proud to present two of her films as well as a virtual Q&A with this utterly essential artist. \n\n\n\nRULES OF THE ROAD (1993)Rules of the Road tells the story of a love affair and its demise through one of the objects shared by the couple: an old beige station wagon with fake wood paneling. A typical American family car for an atypical American family\, it provides the women at first with all the familiar comforts. But when their relationship ends\, the car becomes the property of one and the bane of the other’s existence. Even long after their separation\, this tangible reminder of their life together—and thousands of its imitators—continues to prowl the streets of the city\, haunting the woman who no longer holds the keys either to the car or the other woman’s heart. Through spoken text\, popular music\, and images from the streets of New York\, Rules of the Road takes a somewhat whimsical\, somewhat caustic look at how our dreams of freedom\, pleasure\, security\, and family are so often symbolized by the automobile. 31 min. \n\n\n\n“… the light\, almost whimsical tone of the film should not blind us to the part of it that is irreducibly personal. Station wagons are everywhere; everybody’s got a sad love story. But only one filmmaker\, to my knowledge\, has Su Friedrich’s eye…With Rules of the Road\, she creates a film like a perfect short story.”—Stuart Klawans\, The Nation \n\n\n\nGUT RENOVATION (2012)A documentary of small changes evolves into an historical record of New York. The resulting film is an essayistic requiem for a neighborhood and an entire way of life; it also provides a case study of the rapid gentrification of our cities. In 1989\, together with a group of female friends\, Friedrich rented and renovated an old loft in Williamsburg\, an unassuming working-class district of Brooklyn. In 2005 this former industrial zone was designated a residential area and the factories\, manufacturers and artists’ lofts were priced out by property speculators lured by tax breaks. Friedrich spent five years documenting the changes in the area between East River and the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. She shows the demolition of industrial buildings and the construction of trendy new apartments for wealthy clients\, watching old tenants leave and new inhabitants arrive. As she keeps meticulous record of developments\, the extent and speed of the upheaval becomes clear. When her lease isn’t renewed\, her documentary images and trenchant commentary become the tools of her growing anger. 81 min. \n\n\n\n“…the most salient and personal film about Brooklyn’s ever-changing face since Hal Ashby’s The Landlord… Gut Renovation is bound to polarize audiences. It’s a polemical howl in the night\, a desperately angry and sidesplittingly funny look at one oh-so-mythologized neighborhood’s transformation…[It’s] a film essay that is of a piece with the work of heady French names like Godard and Varda.”—Brandon Harris\, Filmmaker Magazine“Friedrich uses all manner of wry digs and ironic whimsy to make her point…the ‘damn-the-torpedoes’ directness of her spoken and superimposed commentary gives the film its unique bite and personality.”—Ronnie Scheib\, Variety“…Ms. Friedrich is fighting mad. She is a provocateur.”—Stephen Holden\, The New York Times \n\n\n\nABOUT THE FILMMAKERSu Friedrich has directed twenty-seven films and videos since 1978\, which have been featured in thirty-one retrospectives at major museums and film festivals including at the Museum of Modern Art\, the Whitney Museum of American Art\, the Rotterdam Film Festival\, the Buenos Aires Festival of Independent Cinema and the National Film Theater in London\, and have been widely screened and extensively written about. The films have also won numerous awards\, including Grand Prix at the Melbourne Film Festival\, Outstanding Documentary Award at Outfest and Best Narrative Film Award at the Athens International Film Festival. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. SUMMARY:DEMONS (1985)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A gleefully over-the-top splatterfest … one of the 80s’ best genre films” – 48Hills \n\n\n\nWelcome to the most life-enriching Italian terror-party of 1985. Produced by Dario Argento (Suspiria) and directed by Lamberto Bava\, DEMONS follows a panorama of punks\, preppies\, and ne’er-do-wells as they get trapped in a movie theater and possessed by gut-shredding Satanic demonoids. Featuring songs by Mötley Crüe and Billy Idol—not to mention a classic spooky-groovy score by the legendary Goblin—plus gloopy effects\, a terrifically Halloween-y atmosphere\, and the iconic Geretta Geretta in a lead role\, this is the most fun you’ll ever have in a movie theater while watching a movie about beasties on the loose in a movie theater! \n\n\n\nTicket proceeds for this screening benefit Hester’s Hope Foundation. SUMMARY:HAMBURGER HEAVEN (2025) -- World Premiere w/ the filmmakers!
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“It’s where burgers go when they die.” \n\n\n\nHamburger Heaven is the new film from Missouri filmmaker and illustrator Alexander Isgriggs. This 23-minute short is a dark comedy road movie about the dissolution of a friendship over an ill-fated\, midnight burger run. Shot back in 2018\, the project has long been simmering… until now! \n\n\n\nAfter intercepting a mysterious tv ad\, two twenty-something friends\, Mac and Walter\, hit the road in search of the mythic Hamburger Heaven. Their trip begins innocuously enough after they secure another buddy\, Trevor\, as their ride. The journey quickly goes off the rails as they are distanced from civilization and each other\, and their codependent relationship is pushed to the extreme. \n\n\n\nPlus a brain-rotting\, cheese-melting pre-show of ’90s/’00s ads and a post-film Q&A with the filmmakers! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. But there’s something different about these new friends\, and it’s not just that they won’t settle for being a group of powerless misfits. They have discovered THE CRAFT…and they are going to use it. This spectacular horror thriller-cum-high school melodrama has achieved cult-classic status not only for its goth-girl fashion and quintessential ’90s cool-kid cast (including Neve Campbell\, Robin Tunney\, Fairuza Balk\, Rachel True\, and Skeet Ulrich) but because it so perfectly captures the transformative empowerment of female friendship and solidarity…with spells! \n\n\n\nWe are hosting two screenings\, one indoors at 7 pm and another outdoors on the backlot at 7:30 pm. DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHead over to FLOWERS & WEEDS for a pop-up outdoor screening of the original FRIDAY THE 13TH in the pumpkin patch! \n\n\n\n“The best bits of Halloween\, Carrie\, and Hitchcock’s Psycho were cheekily repurposed here by the director Sean S Cunningham for a slasher movie — the first of a whopping 12 installments — that remains the genre standard-bearer.” – The Times (UK) \n\n\n\nThe terrifying first FRIDAY THE 13TH that launched the iconic horror movie franchise comes to Flowers & Weeds! The thrills start when the new owner\, and several young counselors\, gather to reopen Camp Crystal Lake. Years ago\, a young boy named Jason Voorhees drowned\, and a series of vicious murders occurred thereafter. Despite locals’ warnings that the place has a “death curse\,” the new crew continues to relaunch the camp. One by one\, they find out how unlucky Friday the 13th can be as they are stalked by a violent killer. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Agnès Varda's THE GLEANERS AND I (2000) presented with Operation Food Search
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis screening is presented in partnership with Operation Food Search (OFS). Ticket proceeds benefit OFS\, and Jacob Beck will introduce the film with a talk about OFS’s gleaning work. \n\n\n\nOne of the most acclaimed films of the 21st century\, Agnès Varda’s extraordinary late-career renaissance began with this wonderfully idiosyncratic\, self-reflexive documentary in which the ever-curious French cinema icon explores the little-known world of modern-day gleaners: those living on the margins who survive by foraging for that which society throws away. Embracing the intimacy and freedom of digital filmmaking\, Varda posits herself as a kind of gleaner of images and ideas\, one whose generous\, expansive vision makes room for ruminations on everything from aging to the birth of cinema to the beauty of heart-shaped potatoes. By turns playful\, philosophical\, and subtly political\, The Gleaners and I is a warmly human reflection on the contradictions of our consumerist world from an artist who\, like her subjects\, finds unexpected richness where few think to look. \n\n\n\nTickets are a minimum $10\, but we encourage you to pay more if you can afford it. All proceeds will be donated directly to Operation Food Search! \n\n\n\n“ONE OF THE 10 GREATEST DOCUMENTARIES OF ALL TIME! Agnès Varda’s handheld DV autoportrait of the artist as an older woman…brilliantly encompasses agriculture\, art history\, class politics\, ecology\, economics\, recycling raps and the origins of cinema.” – Sight & Sound“ONE OF THE 100 BEST FILMS OF THE 21ST CENTURY! a profound\, uncommonly tender and searchingly philosophical dream of what it could mean to live in the world — take only what you need\, share everything you have — that is itself a tour de force of cinematic gleaning.” – The New York Times“#67 – GREATEST FILMS OF ALL TIME POLL! Agnès Varda’s investigation into the cast-offs and castaways of society is both brilliantly funny and well-observed in its meta-textual reflection on the things we reclaim.” -Sight & Sound (Ariel Baska) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. SUMMARY:GREMLINS 2: THE NEW BATCH (1990)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A devilishly\, hysterically\, cacklingly\, subversively funny picture that builds and builds until it literally self-destructs.” – Washington Post \n\n\n\nPerhaps the closest cinema has ever come to a live-action Looney Tune\, GREMLINS 2: THE NEW BATCH is an all-out assault of gags\, goo\, and gremlins gremlins gremlins! Less a sequel to the 1984 original than a feverish parody of it\, Joe Dante’s madcap satire moves the action from small-town Kingston Falls to the Big Apple\, where the mischievous little monsters wreak havoc upon a New York City skyscraper. With gloriously gloopy Rick Baker effects\, a gag-a-minute ratio that would leave Mel Brooks’ head spinning\, and an onslaught of pop-culture references ranging from Rambo to Ray Harryhausen\, GREMLINS 2 is a chance to watch a brilliant filmmaker unleash his movie-addled id all over the screen. It’s not only one of cinema’s greatest sequels\, it’s also one of the most uproarious comedies ever made. \n\n\n\nCome out early for a free Looney Tunes Happy Hour\, starting at 4:30 pm! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Celebrate Elvis Week with VIVA LAS VEGAS (1964) w/ Elvis pre-show @ 2:30 pm
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“He was the best on-screen partner she ever had\, and she was his. It’s the most purely entertaining Elvis movie ever\, a complete delight and it’s unbelievable they were never teamed again.” – Filmink \n\n\n\nOn Aug. 16\, 1977\, the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll ascended to that great Graceland in the sky. Decades later\, his remains one of the great American legends\, a preternatural entertainer who transformed not only popular music but popular culture as a whole. In commemoration of Elvis Week\, Arkadin presents perhaps his most purely entertaining cinematic effort\, 1964’s Viva Las Vegas! Co-starring one of the few women who can totally hold her own against Elvis’s effortless charisma\, Viva Las Vegas pairs The King with Swedish-born sexpot Ann-Margret. Elvis is the strapping young racecar driver looking for money to fix his engine before the Vegas Grand Prix\, while Ann-Margret is the young swimming instructor who causes him to lose his engine money but still manages to get his motor running…if you know what we mean. With vibrant musical numbers\, lavish Panavision visuals\, and some super-steamy chemistry that didn’t have to be faked — Elvis and Ann-Margret began a real-life affair that exploded the tabloids\, much to wife Priscilla Presley’s dismay — there’s no better way to commemorate Elvis’ passing than with Viva Las Vegas. All hail the King! \n\n\n\nPlus\, come out early for a pre-show of iconic clips of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll\, starting at 2:30 pm! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us as we welcome Jessa Crispin\, author\, podcaster\, and intrepid social critic who has written one of the most anticipated books of 2025\, WHAT IS WRONG WITH MEN: PATRIARCHY\, THE CRISIS OF MASCULINITY\, AND HOW (OF COURSE) MICHAEL DOUGLAS FILMS EXPLAIN EVERYTHING\, who will introduce perhaps the quintessential work in Michael Douglas’ oeuvre\, 1987’s controversial erotic thriller Fatal Attraction. \n\n\n\nStylish and sexy\, Fatal Attraction took audiences to terrifying new heights with its thrilling story of a casual encounter gone terribly awry. This box-office smash was nominated for six Academy Awards\, including Best Picture and Best Director (Adrian Lyne). Michael Douglas plays Dan Gallagher\, a New York attorney who has a tryst with seductive Alex Forrest (Glenn Close) while his wife (Anne Archer) is away. Dan later shrugs off the affair as a mistake and considers it over. But Alex won’t be ignored. Not now\, not tomorrow\, not ever…even if it means destroying Dan’s family to keep him. \n\n\n\nCrispin’s book is a hilarious\, ambitious work of trenchant cultural criticism that traces the origins of today’s crisis of masculinity through the films of Michael Douglas! At 7 pm\, Jenna will be giving a talk and signing books at our next door neighbor\, The Heavy Anchor. At 9 pm\, she’ll pop on over to Arkadin to introduce the deliriously entertaining though wildly problematic FATAL ATTRACTION! \n\n\n\n“The most surprising thing about Jessa’s prescient\, rigorous\, and sneakily hilarious What Is Wrong with Men\, is how quickly and easily (and\, for me\, shamefully) she shifted my ‘Michael Douglas explains the modern man? Really?’ skepticism to ‘Get out of my brain!’ and then to ‘Wait . . . am I Michael Douglas?'” —Damon Young\, author of What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Blacker \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Feminist body horror IN MY SKIN (2002) -- Art House Theater Day screening!
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin is proud to present this screening as part of Art House Theater Day! AHTD is an annual program of AHC that brings audiences together to celebrate all that art house theaters – and independent film – contribute to our cultural landscape: ambitious and innovative art that provokes\, challenges\, entertains\, and inspires. \n\n\n\n“An uncommonly assured and provocative debut\, as gorgeous as it is gruesome.” – Time Out New York \n\n\n\nFeminism and French New Extremity have always been a powerfully potent combination in the hands of female directors like Catherine Breillat and Claire Denis\, and auteur Marina de Van joined their righteously twisted ranks with her gorgeous and grotesque 2002 horror breakthrough IN MY SKIN. Esther has been recovering from a recent leg injury when she develops an increasingly disturbing relationship with her body\, one where the lines between painful pleasure and self-mutilation become irrevocably blurred. Body horror filtered through serrated expectations of body image\, IN MY SKIN is a powerful vision of feminist rage that will sink its teeth into you and never let go. \n\n\n\nRestoration by Severin Films. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person.
