O’Shea\, Jim Varagona\, and WWM cast members!\n\n\n\n\nThe Veiled Prophet: Secret Societies\, White Supremacy\, and the Struggle for St. Louis\, by Devin Thomas O’SheaA provocative look at the secret society that has controlled St. Louis for over a century\, revealing how shadowy elites organize themselves against working-class power\, Devin Thomas O’Shea’s The Veiled Prophet is the definitive history of the Veiled Prophet Society in all its violence and pageantry\, offering a colorful alternate history of the United States through the lens of the Midwestern elite. O’Shea follows the Veiled Prophet Society from its origins in the wake of the 1877 general strike\, through the 1904 World’s Fair\, to the height of the Prophet’s—and St. Louis’s—influence during the Cold War. The Veiled Prophet examines the unexpected ways this secret society has shaped the course of history\, from the CIA to the Vietnam War to the assassination of Martin Luther King. The Veiled Prophet will be available for sale on site\, or buy a copy now! \n\n\n\nWorld Wide Magazine\, presented by Jim VaragonaWorld Wide Magazine was a public access television program in St. Louis from 1986–2001. Its creator\, Peter E. Parisi\, chronicled the city in his own way\, pushing the limits of freedom of speech. In the late 1980s and early 1990s\, he and his crew of misfits attended the annual V.P. Fair downtown. The National Park Service tried to keep them out\, but a very public media battle in 1991 led to their filming rights being reinstated. This compilation captures plenty of revelry\, hoosier patriotism\, and bratwurst. Go along for the ride with Pete\, Big Daddy\, Marty\, Marty’s Brother Mark\, Dumptruck Dave Perry\, Miss Cathy\, Black Jesus\, The Mad Russian\, and more. This presentation is curated and will be introduced by Jim Varagona\, archivist of The Pete Parisi Archives. \n\n\n\nThis event is not available for booking with the Club Arkadin pass. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nWhen a screening is sold out\, we open a waitlist 30 minutes before showtime. SUMMARY:CRIP CAMP: A DISABILITY REVOLUTION (2020) presented by the Starkloff Network -- FREE!
DESCRIPTION:“A vital and joyful work that puts a lesser-known part of American civil rights history on the map” – Sight & Sound \n\n\n\nDown the road from Woodstock\, a revolution blossomed in a ramshackle summer camp for teenagers with disabilities\, transforming their lives and igniting the disability-rights movement. At Camp Jened\, teens with disabilities tasted freedom\, friendship\, and self‑expression; decades later those bonds fueled protests\, sit‑ins\, and policy fights that reshaped American civil rights. SUMMARY:Guy Maddin's "hilariously bizarre" CAREFUL (1992) -- new 4K restoration presented by Lost in the Arthouse
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLOST IN THE ARTHOUSE is a monthly series hosted by Arkadin co-owner Keith Watson that takes you to hidden corners of filmdom far from Hollywood. From must-see classics to obscurities waiting to be discovered\, these films stand at cinema’s bleeding edge. \n\n\n\n“Hilariously bizarre… like some lost masterpiece from a time-warped alternative dimension.” – The Washington Post \n\n\n\nArkadin favorite Guy Maddin’s early masterpiece takes place in a 19th-century Alpine village where the wary residents—adult\, child and animal—must speak softly and tread lightly lest they cause an avalanche. But sexual frenzies teem in this world of repression\, setting off incestuous love triangles and quadrangles with deadly consequences. Bathed in lurid\, luminescent tints\, CAREFUL is Maddin’s twisted ode to a largely forgotten film subgenre\, the German “Bergfilme” of the 1920s and ’30s\, which pitted man (and woman) against mountain in epic survivalist adventures. Merging these bygone conventions with Maddin’s own delirious obsessions results in a truly singular work that resembles a vintage melodrama from another planet. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. However\, we encourage researching titles to determine if a screening may contain content that could be upsetting to you. Please feel free to contact us for guidance on specific films. SUMMARY:MAD MAX: FURY ROAD (2015) -- outdoor screening sponsored by Proper Cannabis
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Believe all the hype: This movie will melt your face off.” – Christy Lemire \n\n\n\nA relentless\, high-octane chase across a sun-scorched wasteland\, Mad Max: Fury Road is undeniably one of the greatest action movies ever made. Director George Miller returned to his Mad Max roots and unleashed a visceral symphony of roaring engines\, explosive stunts\, and mind-blowingly kinetic visuals. Tom Hardy stars as the stoic Max while Charlize Theron is ferocious as Imperator Furiosa. The two form an unlikely alliance to rescue enslaved women from a tyrant’s citadel\, sparking a thunderous rebellion in the process. With minimal dialogue\, a thunderous score\, and wildly inventive practical effects\, Fury Road takes you on a breathless ride through a surreal wasteland in a raw\, powerful and utterly exhilarating odyssey. \n\n\n\nThis outdoor screening is part of the Stoner Cinema series sponsored by our friends at Proper Cannabis and their product line Daily Driver. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:$3 MONDAY MYSTERY MOVIE: A Demented Black Comedy About a Deliciously Dysfunctional Family
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn the last Monday of every month\, Arkadin chooses an underseen deep cut to inflict upon an unwitting audience. Though the genre and tone may change\, the price always remains the same: three measly bucks. You can’t afford not to get yourself a ticket! \n\n\n\nThis month’s Mystery Movie is a hilariously unhinged ’90s cult comedy that combines venomous pitch-black wit with Southern Gothic psychodrama. When the film was released\, critics were divided and audiences were baffled\, but time has been kind to this deliciously demented gem. Anchored by a truly fearless lead performance and directed by a first-time filmmaker who would go on to helm a slew of highly successful studio crowd-pleasers\, this shocking\, hilarious\, and deeply uncomfortable is the family reunion from Hell. You’ll laugh! You’ll gasp! You’ll spend the ride home wondering\, “What on earth did I just watch?” \n\n\n\nThis month’s mystery movie will be introduced by Josh Margherita. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nWhen a screening is sold out\, we open a waitlist 30 minutes before showtime. He remains the visionary of camp and the den mother of the bizarre… This film is a triumphant example of the most vital bad taste in America.” – The Village Voice \n\n\n\nFollowing the unrepentant outrageousness of Pink Flamingos and Female Trouble\, director John Waters brought his notorious trash trilogy to a fittingly twisted close with this antifascist fairy tale. After hysterical housewife Peggy Gravel (Mink Stole) murders her husband with the help of her fed-up housekeeper (Jean Hill)\, the newfound “sisters in crime” escape to the bizarro shantytown of Mortville\, a depraved penal colony presided over by a despotic queen (Edith Massey) whose tyranny pushes her subjects to shocking revolt. Deviant cops\, death by dog food\, DIY surgery—Waters unleashes all this and more in an at once relentlessly warped and oddly moral vision of queer rebellion. \n\n\n\nIn honor of the Desperate Living’s star\, stripper Liz Renay\, this film is presented with a vintage burlesque pre-show\, starting at 6:30 pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:POINT BREAK (1991) w/ Red Hot Chili Peppers pre-show @ 6 pm
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A full-throttle action showcase that capitalises on its ‘90s flare and rides the wave right until the end.” – Loud and Clear Reviews \n\n\n\nKeanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze star in one of the greatest action movies of the 1990s! Point Break is a high-octane surf‑and‑sky thriller starring Reeves as rookie FBI agent Johnny Utah\, who goes undercover to infiltrate a gang of charismatic\, adrenaline‑junkie bank robbers led by the enigmatic Bodhi (Swayze). Between dawn surf sessions and gravity‑defying skydives\, Utah’s loyalty frays as he’s seduced by their outlaw code and the intoxicating freedom they chase. Director Kathryn Bigelow blends pulse‑pounding action with philosophical heat\, while the stars ignite the screen with kinetic homoerotic chemistry\, while Lori Petty\, John C. McGinley\, and Gary Busey chew the luscious SoCal scenery. A cult classic that still thrills\, Point Break is a raw\, stylish rush. \n\n\n\nIn honor of Anthony Kiedis’ small role\, we pay tribute to that equally iconic artifact of Gen X LA\, the Red Hot Chili Peppers\, with a pre-show at 6 pm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:ROSE OF NEVADA (2025) -- "a stupefying\, time-slipping ghost story"
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Like nothing else in modern movies. Feels unearthed from the deep\, dark recesses of the unconscious.” – Nick Schager\, The Daily Beast \n\n\n\n“A stupefying\, time-slipping ghost story” (The Film Stage) from Mark Jenkin\, the visionary director of Enys Men\, Rose of Nevada is a seasick sci-fi-inflected journey into the unknown. Or\, as critic Brian Tallerico put it\, “a mind-fuck” that “reminds you of the work of Mike Leigh and David Lynch at the same time.” \n\n\n\nThree decades ago\, the Rose of Nevada vanished at sea\, along with its crew. Now\, it has returned. In a remote fishing village\, its reappearance is embraced as an auspicious sign\, with the local citizens convinced the luck of their economically devastated community may turn\, if only the ship sails again. Joining the crew is Nick (George MacKay\, 1917)\, desperate to provide for his young family\, and Liam (Callum Turner\, Fantastic Beasts)\, a mysterious drifter eager to escape his past. After a successful voyage\, they return to harbor\, only to find that nothing is as they remember it. \n\n\n\nShot on 16mm film with a vintage Bolex H16\, a camera that only allows a maximum runtime of 28 seconds per take\, and edited with a haunting\, rhythmic pulse\, Rose of Nevada is\, like its characters\, adrift in time—ferociously contemporary yet profoundly haunted by the past. It’s also very weird\, very cool\, and like nothing else in contemporary cinema. \n\n\n\nPlease note: Start time was originally listed as 7 pm. It has been moved to 7:30 pm. \n\n\n\nWHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING…\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Brilliantly weird” \n\n\n\n\n“With Rose of Nevada\, Jenkin has further cemented himself as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary cinema… brilliantly weird and wholly intoxicating.” \n\n\n\n\n\nThe Upcoming \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Mind-fuck” \n\n\n\n\n“It’s not every day that you see a film that reminds you of the work of Mike Leigh and David Lynch at the same time. Still\, there aren’t a lot of movies like this mind-fuck of a flick… I won’t forget it.” \n\n\n\n\n\nRogerEbert.com \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Moving… unnerving… striking” \n\n\n\n\n“An experience as moving as it is unnerving\, and as the piercing screeching of iron rods announces the Rose of Nevada is to leave port once more\, it is we the audience there to wave a pained goodbye\, quietly stunned by the ethereal aura of Jenkin’s striking creation.” \n\n\n\n\n\n★ ★ ★ ★ ★ \n\n\n\nLittle White Lies \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Pre-Code delight ONE WAY PASSAGE (1932) w/ "Steamboat Willie"
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“One of the best filmed love stories of all time\, the sublime One Way Passage is simply one of the great pleasures of life.” – Pre-Code.com \n\n\n\nA tragic love story told with the lightest\, most life-fulfilling touch\, One Way Passage is one of the most immaculate delights in Pre-Code cinema. The Thin Man‘s William Powell stars as a charming jailbird on the run from the gallows\, while the effervescent Kay Francis is a terminally ill woman clinging to the last sparks of life—and doing it in style in a succession of glimmering Orry-Kelly gowns! The two meet over Paradise cocktails in Hong Kong and fall in love aboard a transpacific ocean liner bound for San Francisco. What sounds on paper like a tearjerker is\, in director Tay Garnett’s hands\, a boozy\, bubbly comedy featuring a sloppy drunkard (Frank McHugh)\, a fake countess (Aline MacMahon)\, a lovestruck policeman (Warren Hymer)\, and a seemingly endless supply of potent potables. The last of seven features Powell and Francis made together\, One Way Passage is pure delight and an essential entry in our August-long “I’m On a Boat” series. \n\n\n\nPlus we’re delighted to bring you a bonus nautical treat before the feature\, the classic Walt Disney short Steamboat Willie featuring [generic public domain rodent creature]! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nWhen a screening is sold out\, we open a waitlist 30 minutes before showtime. Strange Brew programmer Jon Scorfina will provide an introduction. \n\n\n\nThe dead return to life as sadistic bikers in the unhinged\, outlaw British flick Psychomania (1973). A violent biker gang known as The Living Dead dabbles in black magic at The Seven Witches\, a druid circle of seven standing stones in the countryside.  The gang’s leader Tom (Nicky Henson)\, with the help of his mother (Beryl Reid) and her nefarious butler Shadwell (George Sanders in his final role) who both worship a sinister Frog God\, discovers that by committing suicide you can return as an undead\, unkillable meance. Tom uses this knowledge to convince his gang\, including his reluctant girlfriend\, to follow him into death so they can all return as masked bikers with the sole purpose of terrorizing the locals. \n\n\n\nDirected by Hammer veteran Don Sharp\, Psychomania (released in the U.S. as The Death Wheelers) was initially dismissed as a low-budget psychedelic zombie biker frightener with low-ambitions of cultivating an audience. Soon however the film developed a devoted cult following for its legitimately crazy stunt work\, eerie atmosphere\, leather costumes and dark comedy.  It also features a notable soundtrack by British composer John Cameron. \n\n\n\nA Motorcycle Movie Madness Preshow will start at 6:30 pm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:SERIAL MOM (1994) w/ Snapped pre-show @ 6 pm
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Uproariously funny\, maliciously malicious!” – Time Out \n\n\n\nThe Pope of Trash satirizes the dark heart of suburban normalcy in this wicked black comedy. Kathleen Turner plays wholesome suburban mom Beverly\, a picture-perfect homemaker whose fascination with serial killers transforms her into a Good Housekeeping murder queen who kills anyone and everyone who fails to live up to her standards. Featuring appearances by Ricki Lake\, Matthew Lillard\, Mink Stole\, Suzanne Somers\, Traci Lords and Patty Hearst\, SERIAL MOM gleefully skewers conformity\, suburbia\, and (perhaps most presciently) America’s obsession with true crime. Grab your own mama and bring her to the movies for a Mother’s Slay that’ll leave you in stitches…if Beverly doesn’t get you first! \n\n\n\nNeed more trashy murder content? Come out early for our Snapped pre-show starting at 6 pm—the wildly popular Oxygen true crime series that shows the true freaks live in the suburbs. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Takashi Miike's VISITOR Q (2001) -- Friday Night WTF!
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFriday Night WTF screenings are cheap\, weird\, and out of control! Cult trashterpieces\, so-bad-they’re-good crapfests\, movies that make you ask “What the hell am I watching?!” — we’ve got ’em all on Friday night. \n\n\n\n“It’s fucked up\, hilarious and for a movie that includes a show-stopping corpse fuck\, surprisingly tender.” – Spectrum Culture \n\n\n\nFrom the warped genius who brought you Audition\, Ichi the Killer\, and The Happiness of the Katakuris\, Takashi Miike’s Vistior Q might just be the Japanese auteur’s most demented work. A deeply dysfunctional family is pushed to the brink when a mysterious stranger enters their home\, unleashing long-suppressed tensions and laying bare their most disturbing taboos. His silent presence sets off a series of shocking transformations\, compelling each member to confront their darkest impulses. Blending pitch-black humor with razor-sharp social commentary\, Visitor Q fearlessly explores subjects such as incest\, necrophilia\, and bullying\, laying bare the absurdity\, cruelty\, and unexpected resilience of modern family life. Celebrating 25 years of fucking audience’s shit up\, Vistior Q stands as one of Miike’s most audacious and unforgettable films. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:TITANIC (1997) presented with "VHS Break" intermission
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“As colossal as the ship itself… the stuff of magic.” – Awards Daily \n\n\n\nThe ground-breaking epic that enraptured a generation\, Titanic is blockbuster filmmaking at its most irresistible. Meticulously recreating every detail of the eponymous cruise liner\, from the Grand Staircase to the silverware\, director James Cameron’s romance-cum-disaster movie immerses us in the luxury of that ill-fated voyage while investing the audience in a sweeping\, inter-class love story that appeals to the inner Marxist in all of us. Viscerally emotional\, chock-full of iconic moments\, and set to the most unabashedly bombastic love theme this side of Dr. Zhivago\, Titanic is one of the most successful blockbusters of all time for a reason: It’s just that damn good. \n\n\n\nTo give you the full double-VHS nostalgia experience\, we are presenting Titanic with an intermission at the exact moment when you would have had to switch tapes. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Alfred Hitchcock's most underrated thriller LIFEBOAT (1944)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Tense! Gripping! Ranks among [Hitchcock’s] most audacious and successful technical experiments in suspense.” – Empire \n\n\n\nIf you thought Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window and Rope (both of which limit the action to a single apartment) were claustrophobic\, then prepare yourself for Lifeboat\, a white-knuckle tale of suspense that takes place entirely within the crowded confines of its titular vessel. Adapted from a WWII story by John Steinbeck\, Lifeboat packs nine wildly diverse survivors into a dinghy—eight shipwrecked Americans and Brits and one German U-Boat captain—and allows the simmering tensions to boil over into an intense drama that explores the deep fissures within Allied society while asking difficult moral questions about what is required to win a war. Frequently cited by critics as one of Hitchcock’s most unfairly neglected works\, Lifeboat earned Hitchcock one of five Oscar nominations for Best Director and remains a marvelous showcase of the maestro’s technical mastery\, a meticulously constructed works that wrings every ounce of suspense out of its incredibly limited setting. Plus\, be sure to keep an eye out for Hitchcock’s most ingenious cameo appearance. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Werner Herzog's FITZCARRALDO (1982)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“One of the great visions of the cinema\, and one of the great follies. One would not have been possible without the other.” – Roger Ebert \n\n\n\nWerner Herzog is the reigning champ of impossible real-life adventures undertaken in the name of cinema. And this masterpiece is the epic flipside to Aguirre: The Wrath of God — a backbreaking epic that ecstatically treads the line between a portrait of madness and a genuine expression of maniacal obsession. Fitzcarraldo casts Herzog’s muse (and of the true madmen of cinematic acting) Klaus Kinski\, as the real-life South American rubber baron Brian Sweeney Fitzgerald\, who pursued a crazed\, quixotic mission to establish an opera house in the Peruvian jungle. But construction can can only be accomplished by hauling a gigantic river boat over a mountain. No special effects here — this is the real deal\, with the impossible results executed before your eyes. Cited by Akira Kurosawa as one of his favorite films\, Fitzcarraldo remains Herzog’s most quintessential vision\, a work of mad hubris in the service of ecstatic truth or\, as Herzog would bluntly call it\, a “conquest of the useless.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:ANACONDA (1997) w/ scary snakes pre-show @ 6 pm
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The perfect good bad movie… the platonic ideal of a mid-’90s studio thriller” – The Ringer \n\n\n\nA pulpy jungle thriller that’s in on its own joke\, Anaconda is the kind of movie you yearn for every time you roll the dice on some dodgy Tubi movie called something like Sharknadopocalypse. It’s lean\, it’s mean\, it’s winking (but not overly so)\, and it delivers the damn goods! Starring Jennifer Lopez\, fresh off the buzz of Selena\, as the head of a documentary crew who find themselves cruising down the Amazon on a river barge pursued by one big-ass snake\, Anaconda combines some legit location shooting with delicious practical effects\, taut tension\, epic payoffs\, and one of the most gloriously unhinged performances in Hollywood history. The titular snake may devour its victims\, but it’s no match for Jon Voight absolutely inhaling the scenery as a villainous snake poacher\, complete with “Kabuki-like facial expressions and Paraguay-by-way-of-Yonkers accent” (The Ringer). Equal parts creature-feature spectacle and campy B-movie trash\, Anaconda delivers a sweaty fight to the death that will leave you grinning wider than an anaconda unhinging its jaw. \n\n\n\nBefore the film\, we’ll have a pre-show of clips of scary (but not too scary) snakes\, starting at 6 pm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:John Waters' most personal film PECKER (1998)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A sassy\, irreverent movie about art\, fame\, culture shock\, and class consciousness” – Faith & Spirituality \n\n\n\nWho but John Waters would have given his sweetest and most personal film a name like Pecker? Edward Furlong stars as the eponymous teen\, an amateur photographer whose eye for the captivating oddness of everyday Baltimore life leads him to snap pictures of laundromats\, strip clubs\, and his shoplifting pal. But it’s all downhill once Pecker’s grainy\, out-of-focus shots are “discovered” by an influential NYC art dealer (Lilli Taylor). Soon\, Pecker has traded in his trusty Canon Caronet for an expensive Nikon N50\, and his friends and family start to feel the sting of fame’s bright lights. Co-starring Christina Ricci as Pecker’s obsessive girlfriend\, John Waters’ semi-autobiographical satire of art-world excess is a quirky\, hilarious delight that reveals the softer side of cinema’s most notorious shockmeister. But don’t get it twisted\, Pecker way be a touching ode to creative passion\, but it’s still a John Waters movie\, meaning this sweet-natured farce doubles as an R-rated romp\, packed with jokes about teabagging\, eating disorders\, and the Virgin Mary. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:END OF HISTORY (2025) + virtual Q&A with director Jacob Gregor
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Shot on a shoestring budget of around $5\,000 during a 10-day road trip to Deadhorse\, Alaska\, Jacob Gregor’s End of History has more to say about the bleak state of American culture than most multi-million dollar films. Following an isolated man’s journey\, whose mind is being deteriorated by media figures enacting more damage than society may realize\, Gregor crafts a feat of American slow cinema\, capturing the country in all its loneliness and degradation.” – The Film Stage \n\n\n\nA nameless man (Matt Calhoun) obsessed with motivational and right-wing “manosphere” culture goes on a hollow road trip of non-discovery in this hypnotic feature by director Jacob Gregor. A microbudget two-man production made on a road trip from Chicago to Alaska\, End of History is a bone-dry\, satirically bleak character study about a flattening culture and landscape. Playing like some cursed collaboration between James Benning and Lex Fridman\, Gregor’s film is at one hypnotically beautiful\, repulsively fascinating\, and shockingly funny—the rare film that truly understands our current moment of self-imposed isolation and desiccated masculinity. \n\n\n\nA virtual Q&A with director Jacob Gregor will immediately follow the film. \n\n\n\nThis screening is presented in cooperation with Means TV. \n\n\n\nWHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING…\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Jeanne Dielman for incels” \n\n\n\n\n“Jeanne Dielman for red-pilled incels (complimentary). The long final shot encapsulates the film’s freewheeling range of formal\, durational\, comedic\, dramatic\, mundane\, and absurd preoccupations. And it vindicates the entire project as something worthwhile and illuminating and really fucking funny.” \n\n\n\n\n\n★ ★ ★ ★ ½ \n\n\n\nSable \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:THE ALABAMA SOLUTION presented by Empower Missouri
DESCRIPTION:RESERVE SEATS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin Empower Missouri for a free screening of the documentary The Alabama Solution. \n\n\n\n“Scalding… exerts a grip like a thriller” – Variety \n\n\n\nIn 2019\, filmmakers Andrew Jarecki and Charlotte Kaufman (HBO’s The Jinx) visited an Alabama prison\, where\, off camera\, incarcerated men whispered a message: terrible things are going on and being kept secret. This reveal sparked an immersive six-year investigation to discover the reality behind one of the nation’s deadliest prison systems. With unprecedented access and video shot on contraband cell phones\, the directors learn of a suspicious and violent death\, which wasn’t an isolated incident – and that the official version appears far from the truth. A shocking story of brutality\, corruption\, and a system in collapse\, The Alabama Solution shines a light on the inmates fighting for their survival who\, against all odds\, embark on a powerful campaign of resistance. \n\n\n\nThis screening is free and open to the public. SUMMARY:KURONEKO (1968) -- Folk Horror from Japan
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“One of the greatest of Japanese ghost stories\, a horror film of elemental drive\, social commentary\, feminist rage\, and visual grace.” – Sean Axmaker \n\n\n\nIn this poetic and atmospheric horror fable\, set in a village in war-torn medieval Japan\, a malevolent spirit has been ripping out the throats of itinerant samurai. When a military hero is sent to dispatch the unseen force\, he finds that he must struggle with his own personal demons as well. From Kaneto Shindo\, director of the terror classic Onibaba\, Kuroneko (Black Cat) is a spectacularly eerie twilight tale with a shocking feminist angle\, evoked through ghostly special effects and exquisite cinematography. \n\n\n\nEach month\, Arkadin presents a selection of FOLK HORROR AROUND THE WORLD\, creepy folktales from all corner of the globe to give you the Sunday scaries. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person.
