SUMMARY:FATAL ATTRACTION (1987) w/ Intro by Jessa Crispin\, author of "What Is Wrong With Men: Patriarchy\, the Crisis of Masculinity\, and How (Of Course) Michael Douglas Films Explain Everything"
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us as we welcome Jessa Crispin\, author\, podcaster\, and intrepid social critic who has written one of the most anticipated books of 2025\, WHAT IS WRONG WITH MEN: PATRIARCHY\, THE CRISIS OF MASCULINITY\, AND HOW (OF COURSE) MICHAEL DOUGLAS FILMS EXPLAIN EVERYTHING\, who will introduce perhaps the quintessential work in Michael Douglas’ oeuvre\, 1987’s controversial erotic thriller Fatal Attraction. \n\n\n\nStylish and sexy\, Fatal Attraction took audiences to terrifying new heights with its thrilling story of a casual encounter gone terribly awry. This box-office smash was nominated for six Academy Awards\, including Best Picture and Best Director (Adrian Lyne). Michael Douglas plays Dan Gallagher\, a New York attorney who has a tryst with seductive Alex Forrest (Glenn Close) while his wife (Anne Archer) is away. Dan later shrugs off the affair as a mistake and considers it over. But Alex won’t be ignored. Not now\, not tomorrow\, not ever…even if it means destroying Dan’s family to keep him. \n\n\n\nCrispin’s book is a hilarious\, ambitious work of trenchant cultural criticism that traces the origins of today’s crisis of masculinity through the films of Michael Douglas! At 7 pm\, Jenna will be giving a talk and signing books at our next door neighbor\, The Heavy Anchor. At 9 pm\, she’ll pop on over to Arkadin to introduce the deliriously entertaining though wildly problematic FATAL ATTRACTION! \n\n\n\n“The most surprising thing about Jessa’s prescient\, rigorous\, and sneakily hilarious What Is Wrong with Men\, is how quickly and easily (and\, for me\, shamefully) she shifted my ‘Michael Douglas explains the modern man? Really?’ skepticism to ‘Get out of my brain!’ and then to ‘Wait . . . am I Michael Douglas?'” —Damon Young\, author of What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Blacker \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. However\, we encourage researching titles to determine if a screening may contain content that could be upsetting to you. Please feel free to contact us for guidance on specific films. Information about content can also be found on Common Sense Media\, IMDB and DoesTheDogDie.com\, as well as through general internet searches. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. We follow the MPAA rating guidelines for all other films.\n\n\n\nTickets can be purchased using the BUY TICKETS link above. Upon ordering\, you will receive a confirmation email from Square. Tickets may also be purchased on the day of the show at the concession counter.\n\n\n\nIf you’ve purchased advance tickets\, when you arrive\, please give your name at the concession counter to check in. \n\n\n\nTickets are returnable by sending a request through the contact form located on our About Us page prior to showtime.\n\n\n\nWhen an event is sold out\, we reserve the right to release open seats to customers on the waitlist. If you have a pre-purchased ticket and arrive late and there is no seat for you\, your ticket will be refunded.\n\n\n\nAll screenings are held in our indoor theater unless indicated otherwise in the event description above.\n\n\n\nPlease respect your fellow movie-goers by remaining quiet and refraining from using your cell phone throughout the screening.

SUMMARY:CHALLENGERS (2024)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“THE BEST FILM OF 2024…sweaty\, sublime\, riveting\, rollicking” – The AV Club \n\n\n\nFew films have so instantly captured the zeitgeist like Luca Guadagnino’s (Suspiria\, Call Me By Your Name) throbbing throuple epic Challengers. One part sports drama and two parts Jules and Jim\, Challengers stars Zendaya as Tashi Duncan\, a former tennis prodigy turned coach and a force of nature who makes no apologies for her game. Married to (and micro-manager of) Art\, a champion on a losing streak (Mike Faist)\, Tashi formulates a comeback plan for her husband that takes a surprising turn when he must face off against low-circuit has-been Patrick (Josh O’Connor)\, his former best friend and Tashi’s former lover. Simmering tensions\, raw rivalries\, and anguished emotions all come to a head in a vibrantly cinematic tennis match set to Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ techno-vibes score. \n\n\n\nThis film is screening as part of Arkadin’s mini-series\, LOVE COMES IN 3\, spotlighting throuples\, threesomes\, love triangles\, and other romantically complicated trios. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. SUMMARY:Bizarrely Irresistible Hungarian Animated Musical BUBBLE BATH (1980) -- ᴀ ᴅʀᴀᴡɴ ᴠɪsɪᴏɴs sᴄʀᴇᴇɴɪɴɢ
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Hungary’s third ever full-length animated feature is a true curio and a work of minor genius: a gallopingly neurotic modernist-psychedelic musical from 1979 that bubbles and pulsates with anxieties about modernity… The crazed energy is irresistible” – The Guardian \n\n\n\nBubble Bath is the bohemian animated love child of Bill Plympton and Ralph Bakshi\, touching on a wide range of styles from 1920s Art Deco to 1960s Psychedelia and 1970s louche Roxy Music-style decadence. This idiosyncratic musical from Hungarian director György Kovásznai is an indescribably strange\, personal and totally irresistible screwball sitcom. A walking ball of anxieties\, shop window decorator Zsolt is like a stoned hippie alleycat\, or an Eastern European Frank Zappa in a tux; medical student Anikó a more curvaceous post-modern Betty Boop — and both unsure of their attraction to each other\, of the choices they’ve made\, of what life has in store for them. \n\n\n\nEach month\, DRAWN VISIONS presents an outré gem from the wild\, wonderful world of animation. Focusing on the strange\, the underseen\, and the unclassifiable\, this series proves cartoons aren’t just for kids\, they’re for total freaks too! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Jean Harlow & Clark Gable in RED DUST (1932) presented by Forbidden Hollywood
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nForbidden Hollywood is a monthly series hosted by STL film critic Katie Carter celebrating the Pre-Code films of the early 1930s\, when movies were wild\, racy\, transgressive\, and tons of fun. \n\n\n\nAmong the steamiest of the love-in-the-tropics dramas that were a brief fad during Hollywood’s pre-Code era\, Victor Fleming’s Red Dust centers around a love triangle involving macho plantation manager Dennis Carson (Clark Gable)\, brassy prostitute Vantine (Jean Harlow)\, and prim Barbara (Mary Astor)\, an engineer’s wife joining her husband on a job in French Indochina whose arrival quickly explodes Dennis’ personal rule: no women. Red Dust’s frank embrace of extramarital relationships\, highlighted by Harlow’s topless rain barrel bath scene and made more pungent by the movie’s sweaty atmosphere\, caused little stir with the censors on its release\, serving as a sharp indicator of the level of mature content prevalent in films at the time. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:THE CHASE (1994) w/ 1994 Punk Music Video Pre-show @ 6:30 presented by Strange Brew
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis film is presented by St. Louis’s long-running cult film series Strange Brew — winner of the 2025 A-List Award for Best Movie Night in St. Louis. Strange Brew programmer Jon Scorfina will provide an introduction. \n\n\n\nCharlie Sheen stars as a wrongly-convicted prison escapee named Jack Hammond who accidentally kidnaps wealthy heiress Natalie Voss (Kristy Swanson) while trying to flee the police in the underrated action comedy film The Chase (1994). As Jack tries to escape down a southern California highway to Mexico\, an elaborate car chase unfolds fueled by a manic tabloid reporter trying desperately to capture the story. Soon Jack is being pursued by cops being filmed for a documentary\, crazed paparazzi and bonehead vigilantes looking to be TV stars. \n\n\n\nThe Chase is nearly all car chase for its entire run time. It was a modest success during its original release in March 1994\, capitalizing on the popularity of the action and car chase genres during the decade. The soundtrack features high-adrenaline tracks from SoCal punk bands NOFX\, The Offspring\, Bad Religion and Rollins Band\, and is a great encapsulation of ’94 punk right as it was breaking into the mainstream. \n\n\n\nCoincidentally\, the film gained renewed attention later that year when O.J. Simpson was infamously chased down the Los Angeles freeway in his White Bronco by the L.A.P.D. all while being filmed by a news helicopter.  \n\n\n\nThe Chase would go on to garner a cult following for its satire on tabloid media and cop TV shows\, as well as for its cameos from alternative rock luminaries Henry Rollins as over-enthusiastic police officer Dobbs and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Anthony Kiedis and Flea as monster truck driving vigilantes Will and Dale.  \n\n\n\nA 1994 Punk Music Video Pre-Show will start at 6:30 pm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. However\, we encourage researching titles to determine if a screening may contain content that could be upsetting to you. Please feel free to contact us for guidance on specific films. SUMMARY:TARGETS (1968) presented by Dark Dream Cinema -- SOLD OUT!
DESCRIPTION:THIS SCREENING IS SOLD OUT. WAITLIST OPENS 30 MINS. BEFORE SHOWTIME. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDark Dream Cinema is a monthly film series devoted to the creeping undercurrents of the arthouse scene\, hosted by Michael Morlaine. \n\n\n\n“One of the most powerful films of 1968 and one of the greatest directorial debuts of all time.” – Quentin Tarantino \n\n\n\nWhen an aging classic horror star agrees to a public swan song at his final film premiere\, he unwittingly crosses paths with a damaged young man hellbent on revenge. By the time the smoke clears\, both of their lives will have been changed forever. Occupying a singular place in horror history\, Peter Bogdanovich’s Targets sketched out the genre’s future while paying respects to its past. Featuring Boris Karloff in his last American role\, this subversive classic served as the nexus point between the gothic horrors of yore and the prosaic horrors of now\, proving unexpectedly prescient by rooting itself in the everyday violence of the ‘60s. Criminally underseen to this day\, Targets has only sharpened its edge as time has proven its mettle. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:WILD THINGS (1998) -- “steamy\, tawdry\, gloriously over-the-top”
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Director John McNaughton’s grip is a bawdy mix of suspense\, sex and silliness\, all served up with a huge tongue sticking in his cheek. It’s a foamy mix\, topped off by highly charged performances.” – The Hollywood Reporter \n\n\n\nA steaming slice of sexy late-90s neo-noir from director John McNaughton (Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer)\, Wild Things is the ideal balance of sleaze\, trash\, wit\, and softcore stimuli. Popular guidance counselor Sam Lombardo (Matt Dillon) is no stranger to being the focus of female attention\, but his fortunes change dramatically when one of the wealthiest students at his high school\, sultry minx Kelly Van Ryan (Denise Richards) makes a bold accusation against him. The charge looks sure to stick when another girl from the other end of the social spectrum\, Suzie Toller (Neve Campbell)\, steps forward with her own allegations\, but Detective Duquette (Kevin Bacon) smells something fishy\, and the truth is as murky and dangerous as the alligator-infested swamps in the hinterlands of this affluent beach community. Wild Things piles one loony twist after another while luxuriating in the humid sleaze of South Florida\, where everyone’s a con artist and nothing is what it seems. Oh yeah…and did we mention that pool scene? \n\n\n\nThis film is screening as part of Arkadin’s mini-series\, LOVE COMES IN 3\, spotlighting throuples\, threesomes\, love triangles\, and other romantically complicated trios. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:HOUSE (1977) -- Sold Out!
DESCRIPTION:THIS SCREENING IS SOLD OUT. WAITLIST OPENS 30 MINS. BEFORE SHOWTIME. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFriday Night WTF screenings are cheap\, weird\, and out of control! Cult trashterpieces\, so-bad-they’re-good crapfests\, movies that make you ask “What the hell am I watching?!” — we’ve got ’em all on Friday night. \n\n\n\n“Obligatory viewing for lovers of the kitsch\, the cool and the crazy\, but be warned — don’t watch it under the influence of hallucinogenic drugs\, or your head will explode.” – The Arts Desk \n\n\n\nHow to describe Nobuhiko Obayashi’s indescribable 1977 movie House (Hausu)? As a psychedelic ghost tale? A stream-of-consciousness bedtime story? An episode of Scooby-Doo as directed by Mario Bava? Any of the above will do for this hallucinatory head trip about a schoolgirl who travels with six classmates to her ailing aunt’s creaky country home and comes face-to-face with evil spirits\, a demonic house cat\, a bloodthirsty piano\, and other ghoulish visions\, all realized by Obayashi via mattes\, animation\, and collage effects. Equally absurd and nightmarish\, House might have been beamed to Earth from some other planet. Never before available on home video in the United States\, it’s one of the most exciting cult discoveries in years. \n\n\n\nThis August\, Arkadin is excited to present TEENAGE DREAM: OBAYASHI IN THE ’80s\, a collection of restored films by Nobuhiko Obayashi\, the filmmaker behind legendary horror freakout\, House (also playing this month). SUMMARY:Daringly feminist silent film BED AND SOFA (1927) -- $3
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A wry and sardonic sex comedy…Every shot\, detail\, gesture\, glance\, reflection draws us deeper into these three likeable\, imperfect people and their interaction.” – BrentOnFilm \n\n\n\nOne of the most daring films ever produced in the Soviet Union\, Bed and Sofa (also known as Menage a Trois) was a major international success even though it was banned in Western Europe and parts of the United States\, as well as facing eventual suppression in its homeland as well. This disarmingly funny comedy of sexual politics tells the story of a bored housewife Liuda whose cramped one-room apartment gets even tighter when her husband invites his old army buddy Volodia to crash on the couch. Though at first resentful of this unwanted houseguest\, Liuda soon finds herself attracted to the dashing interloper. Soon\, man\, woman\, and lover find themselves living together in a Muscovite throuple. This unorthodox relationship that forms between the trio was allegedly inspired by Russian poet Vladimir Mayakovsky who lived with his “muse” Lilya Brik and her husband Osip Brik for some years — a fact which contributed to the film’s scandalous reputation. Renowned for its frank treatment of abortion\, polyamory\, and the role of women in society\, Bed and Sofa remains a masterpiece of naturalistic storytelling. SUMMARY:SCHOOL IN THE CROSSHAIRS (1981) -- Teenage Dream: Obayashi in the '80s
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis August\, Arkadin is excited to present TEENAGE DREAM: OBAYASHI IN THE ’80s\, a collection of restored films by Nobuhiko Obayashi\, the filmmaker behind legendary horror freakout\, House (also playing this month). These restorations are made possible by Cult Epics and the American Genre Film Archive. \n\n\n\n“[Obayashi] feels like he’s reinventing cinema with every movie he makes.” – Sean Gilman \n\n\n\nThis early “idol” movie by genre master Nobuhiko Obayashi mixes wacked-out sci-fi\, wild optical effects\, and coming-of-age drama into a one-of-a-kind experience only Obayashi could provide. School in the Crosshairs stars Hiroko Yakushimaru\, then the heart-throb of millions of Japanese fans\, as Yuko\, a high school girl with telekinetic powers who must defend her school from an extraterrestrial attack. Meanwhile\, a new student is using her own psychic abilities to transform the school into a fascistic staging area for an alien takeover of Earth. Offering powerful political commentary with plenty of sci-fi thrills\, SCHOOL IN THE CROSSHAIRS is a stylish crowd-pleaser from one of Japan’s most electric auteurs. \n\n\n\n“What if Scanners was a live action anime pitting two schoolgirls against each other under charged clouds of Japanese fascist tendencies” – Felipe Furtado \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Saint Louis Video Society Presents XUXA TIL YOU PUKE w/ Princess Xuxa E Os Trapalhoes (1989)

Always free\, always presented by Video Society archivist James Milam! \n\n\n\nOn Monday August 11th\, SAINT LOUIS VIDEO SOCIETY PRESENTS the multi-talented\, mononymous\, megastar Xuxa\, in a block of programming affectionally titled XUXA TIL YOU PUKE! The internationally renowned Brazilian brought her unusual style of kiddie-music-mania to the US with a short-lived\, syndicated variety show in 1993. Well STLVS is bringing a little bit of everything together in August with a few episodes of her eponymous kids show\, AND a rare screening of the sci-fi\, comedy mashup film A PRINCESA XUXA E OS TRAPALHOES (1989)! \n\n\n\nThe fun starts at 6:30pm on the dot\, continues with the feature at around 7pm\, and goes on until no one can handle another minute of the blonde\, Brazilian bombshell! SUMMARY:BUSTERPALOOZA feat. Our Hospitality + Buster Keaton shorts presented by Silents\, Please! STL
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis film is presented by Silents\, Please! STL and will feature a special introduction from SPSTL’s Kate Stewart. \n\n\n\nCelebrate the glory of silent cinema’s greatest clown\, as Silents\, Please! presents BUSTERPALOOZA! \n\n\n\nOften cited as one of his most significant films—as well as one of his funniest—1923’s Our Hospitality is his take on the notorious feud between the Hatfield and McCoy clans (here renamed the Canfields and the McKays). Keaton is luckless William McKay\, who must journey down South to view his lacklustre inheritance\, only to be seduced along the way by one of the Canfields\, Virginia\, who lures him to her family’s house so that the men of the clan can shoot him down. But William knows that the Canfield men won’t kill him as long as he’s in their house\, so he endeavors to stay put there\, against all obstacles. With its attention to 19th-century period detail and emphasis on integrating the gags into the storyline\, Our Hospitality was not just a breakthrough in Keaton’s career\, but it was also noted even during its release as an advancement in the medium\, with Variety proclaiming\, “It marks a step forward in the production of picture comedies.” \n\n\n\nPlus\, a selection of Buster Keaton’s finest and funniest shorts! SUMMARY:THE FAVOURITE (2019)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A scintillating black comedy of manners from Yorgos Lanthimos\, it latches its fangs in deep.” – Austin Chronicle \n\n\n\nThis bawdy\, acerbic tale of royal intrigue\, passion\, envy and betrayal in the court of Queen Anne may just be the finest (and funniest) work from Greek Weird Wave auteur Yorgos Lanthimos. In early 18th-century England\, a frail Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) occupies the throne\, while her friend and lover Lady Sarah (Rachel Weisz)\, governs the country while tending to Anne’s ill health and volatile temper. When new servant Abigail (Emma Stone) arrives\, Sarah takes Abigail under her wing as she cunningly schemes to return to her aristocratic roots\, setting off an outrageous rivalry to become the Queen’s favo(u)rite. Based on Queen Anne’s real-life lesbian relationships\, this twisted love-triangle tale “slices open three queer women and lets their messy humanity bleed all over you” (Guardian). SUMMARY:THE DOOM GENERATION (1995) -- 30th Anniversary!
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Zany\, violent\, erotically charged… [a] fearless cinematic achievement.” – Indiewire \n\n\n\nGregg Araki takes a road trip to hell in this wild\, meth- and fast-food-fueled joyride through the margins of a menacing American wasteland. When they inadvertently link up with a dangerously alluring drifter (Johnathon Schaech)\, a chilled-out Cali bro (James Duval) and his spiky\, foulmouthed girlfriend (Rose McGowan) find themselves on an increasingly violent\, kinky\, and darkly comic journey in which erotic tensions rise along with the body count. Working with a significant budget for the first time\, Araki employs boldly stylized lighting and art direction to create a heightened sense of unreality in a shocking\, shoegaze-soundtracked chronicle of young lives careening toward oblivion. Billed with tongue in cheek as “A Heterosexual Movie by Gregg Araki\,” The Doom Generation is brimming with violent tendencies and homoerotic desires. SUMMARY:HARD TICKET TO HAWAII (1987) -- Friday Night WTF! -- $5
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFriday Night WTF screenings are cheap\, weird\, and out of control! Cult trashterpieces\, so-bad-they’re-good crapfests\, movies that make you ask “What the hell am I watching?!” — we’ve got ’em all on Friday night. \n\n\n\n“Imagine James Bond directed by Russ Meyer. HARD TICKET continues Andy and Arlene Sidaris’ subversion of standard gender roles\, with women depicted as strong\, resourceful and brave.” – NOTCOMING.COM \n\n\n\nBullets! Bikinis!! Radioactive pythons exploding out of toilets!!! No film captures the playful chaos of action cinema’s golden age like director Andy and producer Arlene Sidaris’ undisputed masterpiece. An inexhaustible geyser of top-notch sex and violence\, Hard Ticket to Hawaii exists beyond entertainment’s maximum limits. The Agency is a tough-as-nails\, tech-savvy squad of physically ideal humans (led by Playboy icon Dona Speir and The Bold and the Beautiful soap legend Ronn Moss) who defend Hawaii’s Molokai Island from diamond smugglers\, narcotics slingers\, and a skateboarding maniac armed with an inflatable sex doll. Tirelessly and shirtlessly\, they deal out homicidal justice at every turn—unleashing helicopters\, motorcycles\, and deadly frisbees to ensure the safety of every bronzed boytoy and babe on the beach. SUMMARY:Celebrate Elvis Week with VIVA LAS VEGAS (1964) w/ Elvis pre-show @ 2:30 pm
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“He was the best on-screen partner she ever had\, and she was his. It’s the most purely entertaining Elvis movie ever\, a complete delight and it’s unbelievable they were never teamed again.” – Filmink \n\n\n\nOn Aug. 16\, 1977\, the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll ascended to that great Graceland in the sky. Decades later\, his remains one of the great American legends\, a preternatural entertainer who transformed not only popular music but popular culture as a whole. In commemoration of Elvis Week\, Arkadin presents perhaps his most purely entertaining cinematic effort\, 1964’s Viva Las Vegas! Co-starring one of the few women who can totally hold her own against Elvis’s effortless charisma\, Viva Las Vegas pairs The King with Swedish-born sexpot Ann-Margret. Elvis is the strapping young racecar driver looking for money to fix his engine before the Vegas Grand Prix\, while Ann-Margret is the young swimming instructor who causes him to lose his engine money but still manages to get his motor running…if you know what we mean. With vibrant musical numbers\, lavish Panavision visuals\, and some super-steamy chemistry that didn’t have to be faked — Elvis and Ann-Margret began a real-life affair that exploded the tabloids\, much to wife Priscilla Presley’s dismay — there’s no better way to commemorate Elvis’ passing than with Viva Las Vegas. All hail the King! \n\n\n\nPlus\, come out early for a pre-show of iconic clips of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll\, starting at 2:30 pm! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:THE GIRL WHO LEAPT THROUGH TIME (1983) -- Teenage Dream: Obayashi in the '80s
\n\n\n\n“[Obayashi] feels like he’s reinventing cinema with every movie he makes.” – Sean Gilman \n\n\n\nAfter his great success with House at Toho\, legendary filmmaker Nobuhiko Obayashi was given the notoriety to start dabbling in the mainstream. His adaptation of the electrifyingly popular 1967 Japanese novel The Girl Who Leapt Through Time was the first adaptation of Yasutaka Tsutsi’s book (followed by several others including the popular anime film by Mamoru Hosoda)\, and was the second highest grossing Japanese film of the year in 1983. After breaking a beaker at school that releases a lavender-like scent causing student Yoshiyama Kazuko to faint\, she wakes up the following morning with the ability to travel through time. Sentimental and sweepingly romantic\, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is a time-travel adventure with a huge beating heart. \n\n\n\n“A poignant yet sweet story of the torturous beauty that is growing up\, told with all the mastery that you would expect of Obayashi.” – easternKicks \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Czech gothic fairy-tale horror BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (1979) -- ғᴏʟᴋ ʜᴏʀʀᴏʀ ᴀʀᴏᴜɴᴅ ᴛʜᴇ ᴡᴏʀʟᴅ
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Fairy tale becomes macabre\, visceral horror in this superb Czech version of the story.” – Close-Up Film \n\n\n\nFrom the rich and textured imagination of Czechoslovak visionary Juraj Herz (The Cremator) comes a gothic-horror reimagining of the classic fairy tale in Beauty and the Beast. Alson known as “The Virgin and the Monster\,” this unnerving dark fantasy follows the innocent Julie (Zdena Studenková) who spares her father’s (Václav Voska) life by agreeing to live under the watchful eye of a bird-like monster\, a macabre and elusive figure torn between his growing affection for the young beauty and his animalistic urge to kill. Gorgeously shot\, intriguingly surreal\, thrillingly sensual\, Beauty and the Beast is unlike any adaptation you’ve seen before. Miles away from the frolicsome family-friendliness of Walt Disney or the opulent fantasia of Renoir’s version\, Herz’s muddy\, decaying vision is very much its own Beast. \n\n\n\nEach month\, Arkadin presents a selection of FOLK HORROR AROUND THE WORLD\, creepy folktales from all corner of the globe to give you the Sunday scaries. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:CLERKS: THE ANIMATED SERIES Happy Hour -- all 6 eps + drink specials!
DESCRIPTION:January 11 \n\n \n : \n \n 5:00 pm \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n Free \n plus $1.50 popcorn & drink specials!\n	\n\n\n\n\n\nDuring Arkadin happy hours\, we offer curated entertainment on the big screen in a looser\, loungier atmosphere than a normal film screening. We keep the lights up a bit. No ticket required; you can drop in or drop out any time you like. Totally FREE plus drink/snack specials at the bar! \n\n\n\nFor our money\, Clerks: The Animated Series is the single greatest entry in Kevin Smith’s View Askewniverse\, a perfectly calibrated mini-masterpiece of animated sitcommery that brough Dante\, Randal\, Jay and Silent Bob onto the small screen with sharp jokes\, clever ideas\, and even a bit of heart. Wildly mistreated upon its initial release by ABC\, which aired only two episodes out of order before burning off the rest on Comedy Central. But the series found new life on DVD where it deservedly gained a cult following. Whether you’ve enjoyed these six episodes of uncut silliness before or your new to what Complex has called “one of the most underrated animated series of all time\,” grab a cold one and have a laugh. SUMMARY:Kevin Smith's CLERKS (1994)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Still such a treat to watch… an ingenious snapshot of small-town americana and the inertia of Generation Xers” – PJ Nabarro \n\n\n\nIt all started here for Kevin Smith: a charming $27\,000 comedy that spawned an empire of sequels\, podcasts\, comic books\, and unapologetically nerdy lifestyle branding. This endearingly low-key comedy about real-life experiences working for chump change at a New Jersey convenience store. A rude\, foul-mouthed collection of anecdotes about the responsibilities that go with being on the wrong side of the till\, the film is also a relationship story that takes some hilarious turns once the lovers start revealing their sexual histories to one another. In the best tradition of first-time\, ultra-low budget independent films\, Smith’s debut is delightfully shaggy\, a quirky\, personal vision that became a phenomenon by tapping into the quintessence of driftless Gen X nerd-dom. Smith may have had his ups and downs since\, but Clerks endures. \n\n\n\nThis film is screening as part of Arkadin’s series Video Store Heaven. Based around the St. Louis premiere of Alex Ross Perry’s Videoheaven\, which explores the lost world of video stores as depicted onscreen\, we are presenting some of the works featured in Perry’s sprawling essay film. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Legendary shot-on-video horror-sleaze VIDEO VIOLENCE (1987) -- Friday Night WTF! -- $7
\n\n\n\n“Top-tier regional drenched in synth drone SOV master-trash and a super ode to the days of horror rentals\, late fees\, and eye-catching movie covers” – c h r i s\, Letterboxd \n\n\n\nAllegedly made for a budget of $6\, Gary Cohen’s Video Violence is a legendary slice of SOV sleaze. The film follows a video store owner dismayed by his community’s fondness for horror schlock\, who learns that these backwoods hicks don’t just watch violent films\, they make their own…for real. Shot entirely on a VHS camcorder and edited at a local public access TV station\, Video Violence is a delightfully grungy little number that found its way into video stores around the country. That’s appropriate because the film emerged directly from Cohen’s own experiences working as video store clerk where he was appalled at his customers’ fondness for violent B movies rather than the old Hollywood classics he adored. Like a no-budget Funny Games\, Video Violence is an attack on audiences’ penchant for violent entertainment that nonetheless became embraced by those very same horror hounds. \n\n\n\nThis film is screening as part of Arkadin’s series Video Store Heaven. SUMMARY:THE ISLAND CLOSEST TO HEAVEN (1984) -- Teenage Dream: Obayashi in the '80s
\n\n\n\n“[Obayashi] feels like he’s reinventing cinema with every movie he makes.” – Sean Gilman \n\n\n\nAfter her father’s sudden passing\, high schooler Mari decides to take a trip to the islands of New Caledonia to find the fabled “island closest to heaven”—a local legend that she and her father had once dreamed of unearthing. From landmark director Nobuhiko Obayashi (House)\, The Island Closest to Heaven is a nostalgic and reflective look at coming of age\, following Mari in her adventures across the islands as she searches for some deeper meaning to life. Although not as high concept as Obayashi’s populous films\, The Island Closest to Heaven is a sweet\, gentle film about self reflection based on a popular 1966 travelogue of the same name by Katsura Morimura. \n\n\n\n“[A] dreamy romantic adventure…It really feels like a fairy tale.” – Jitendar Canth \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Sci-fi Classic THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN (1957) -- ᴏᴛʜᴇʀ ᴡᴏʀʟᴅs
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A pulp masterpiece…Not merely the best of [Jack] Arnold’s classic sci-fi movies of the ’50s\, but one of the finest films ever made in that genre.” – Time Out \n\n\n\nHe baffles science!
