DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A technically impressive comic thriller about a rebellious hen on the run from the chicken-industrial complex.” – The Film Verdict \n\n\n\nJust in time for Thanksgiving\, Arkadin brings you a poultry protagonist you won’t soon forget! Told entirely from the perspective of its avian protagonist\, Hen follows a chicken who escapes an industrial farm only to find herself navigating the pecking order of a crumbling seaside restaurant in Greece. SUMMARY:NOIRVEMBER: Humphrey Bogart in parody cult classic BEAT THE DEVIL (1953) -- $3
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Beat the Devil went straight from box office flop to cult classic and has been called the first camp movie… The movie has above all effortless charm.” – Roger Ebert \n\n\n\nA sun‑baked\, off‑kilter caper starring Humphrey Bogart and directed by John Huston that breezily parodies the hard-boiled noirs and adventure films those two had made together\, Beat the Devil is one of the most lovably eccentric films to emerge from the Golden Age of Hollywood. Bogart drifts through a tangle of schemers\, dreamers\, and double‑crossers played by the likes of Peter Lorre\, Jennifer Jones\, and Gina Lollobrigida\, who set out on a crooked quest for African uranium only to get waylaid in a sleepy coastal Mediterranean town. Filmed on location in Naples and Ravello\, Huston threw out the script on the first day and flew out Truman Capote to rewrite the whole thing on the fly. (Capote demanded daily phone calls with his pet raven\, and one day when the raven refused to answer he flew to Rome to console it\, delaying the production.) Boozy\, mischievous\, and deliriously chaotic\, this oddball noir-comedy confounded audiences at the time\, but it quickly earned a rabid cult following. Bogart\, who’d sunk his own money into the production\, once moaned\, “Only phonies like it.” Well\, count us as the ultimate phonies then\, because we love it…and we think you will too! \n\n\n\nThis film is screening as part of Arkadin’s NOIRVEMBER series\, $3 Sunday matinees of film noir classics that spotlight the broken dreams and bitter paranoia of this distinctly American genre. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nWhen a screening is sold out\, we open a waitlist 30 minutes before showtime. SUMMARY:Kiyoshi Kurosawa's CURE (1997)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Kurosawa’s moody\, unnerving film continues to spook us even after the lights have gone on” – Kenneth Turan\, Los Angeles Times \n\n\n\nKiyoshi Kurosawa’s spellbinding international breakthrough established him as one of the leaders of the emerging new wave of Japanese horror while pushing the genre into uncharted realms of philosophical and existential exploration. A string of shocking\, seemingly unmotivated murders—each committed by a different person yet bearing the same grisly hallmarks—leads Detective Kenichi Takabe (Koji Yakusho) into a labyrinthine investigation to discover what connects them\, and into a disturbing game of cat and mouse with an enigmatic amnesiac (Masato Hagiwara) who may be evil incarnate. Awash in a mood of hushed\, hypnotic dread\, Cure is a tour de force of psychological tension and a hallucinatory journey into the darkest recesses of the human mind. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (1991)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The stuff that nightmares are made of” – Harper Barnes\, St. Louis Post Dispatch \n\n\n\nWith this chilling adaptation of the best-selling novel by Thomas Harris\, the astonishingly versatile director Jonathan Demme crafted a taut psychological thriller about an American obsession: serial murder. As Clarice Starling\, an FBI trainee who enlists the help of the infamous Hannibal “the Cannibal” Lecter to gain insight into the mind of another killer\, Jodie Foster subverts traditional gender dynamics and gives one of the most memorable performances of her career. As her foil\, Anthony Hopkins is the archetypal antihero—cultured\, quick-witted\, and savagely murderous—delivering a harrowing portrait of humanity gone terribly wrong. A gripping police procedural and a disquieting immersion into a twisted psyche\, The Silence of the Lambs swept the Academy Awards® (Best Picture\, Director\, Screenplay\, Actress\, Actor) and remains a cultural touchstone. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:NOIRVEMBER: Relentless rollercoaster of suspense WOMAN ON THE RUN (1950) -- $3
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The best film noir you have never seen!” – Eddie Muller\, host of TCM’s Noir Alley \n\n\n\nA lean\, nervy slice of late‑period noir\, Woman on the Run finds Ann Sheridan—who also produced the film herself\, outside the strictures and sexism of the studio system—racing through the streets of San Francisco on a quest to find her husband\, who’s taken flight after witnessing a gangland murder. Filmed on location in the City by the Bay\, San Francisco’s hills and waterfront become a nocturnal labyrinth of piers\, bars\, and back‑alleys\, all humming with menace. Director Norman Foster\, a protégé of Orson Welles\, brings scintillating style to this elementally simple story\, which reaches its crescendo at a waterfront amusement park where Ann Sheridan takes a roller coaster ride for her life. \n\n\n\nThis film is screening as part of Arkadin’s NOIRVEMBER series\, $3 Sunday matinees of film noir classics that spotlight the broken dreams and bitter paranoia of this distinctly American genre. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person.
