SUMMARY:WWI epic THE BIG PARADE (1925) presented by Silents\, Please! STL
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis film is presented by Silents\, Please! STL and will feature a special introduction from SPSTL’s Kate Stewart. \n\n\n\n“Every war movie since owes it an irredeemable debt… Vidor energizes The Big Parade by smashing together two atoms\, a nation’s pride and a mother’s sorrow\, the combination refracting the audience’s emotions into an unsettling tangle. It all concludes on a decisive note of despair and regret\, but audiences carry from the film a heart so full\, so torn by elation and the abyss\, that they won’t know if they’re coming or going.” – The Village Voice \n\n\n\nFor Armistice Day\, Silents\, Please! brings you the quintessential WWI epic. The highest-grossing silent film of all time\, as well as one cinema’s first truly realistic war dramas\, The Big Parade offers an unflinching look at the perils of combat. John Gilbert stars as an idle rich boy who joins the US Army’s Rainbow Division and is sent to France to fight in the Great War. Along the way he befriends two working class men\, Slim (Karl Dane) and Bull (Tom O’Brien)\, finds love with a French girl (Renée Adorée)\, and experiences the horrors of trench warfare. Praised for its realistic depiction of warfare\, King Vidor’s epic heavily influenced many subsequent war films\, particularly the 1930 Best Picture winner All Quiet on the Western Front. In 1992\, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:LA HAINE (1995) -- Free screening presented by MICA Project
DESCRIPTION:RESERVE A SPOT\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“★★★★★ – Radiates with rage and comedy… La Haine is an unmissable response to an unending emergency.” – The Guardian \n\n\n\nMathieu Kassovitz took the film world by storm with La Haine\, a gritty\, unsettling\, and visually explosive look at the racial and cultural volatility in modern-day France\, specifically the low-income banlieue districts on Paris’s outskirts. Aimlessly passing their days in the concrete environs of their dead-end suburbia\, Vinz (Vincent Cassel)\, Hubert (Hubert Koundé)\, and Saïd (Saïd Taghmaoui)—Jewish\, African\, and Arab\, respectively—give human faces to France’s immigrant populations\, their bristling resentment at their marginalization slowly simmering until it reaches a climactic boiling point. A work of tough beauty\, La Haine is a landmark of 1990s French cinema and a gripping reflection of its country’s ongoing identity crisis. \n\n\n\nThis 100% FREE screening is presented by the Migrant and Immigrant Community Action Project (MICA Project)\, who will introduce the screening. SUMMARY:The World's Only Turkey-Monster Anti-Drug Pro-Jesus Gore Film BLOOD FREAK (1972) -- Friday Night WTF! -- $3
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFriday Night WTF screenings are cheap\, weird\, and out of control! Cult trashterpieces\, so-bad-they’re-good crapfests\, movies that make you ask “What the hell am I watching?!” — we’ve got ’em all on Friday night. \n\n\n\n“Makes Ed Wood look like Stanley Kubrick…in a word\, in-freakin’-credible. I’ve seen my share of really bad movies but this one’s a stunner. It’s undeniably unique: an anti-drug gore film with a pro-Christian message [and a killer creature with a turkey head!]” – Eccentric Cinema \n\n\n\nBlood Freak is undeniably one of the strangest cult horror films of the 1970s\, blending exploitation cinema\, anti-drug messaging\, and one of the most ridiculous monsters ever committed to celluoid into a truly unforgettable experience. The story follows Herschell\, a Vietnam veteran who drifts into drug use after taking a job at a turkey farm. When he becomes the subject of a bizarre experiment involving chemically altered turkey meat\, he undergoes a grotesque transformation into a bloodthirsty creature with the head of a giant turkey. Equal parts horror\, cautionary tale\, and fever dream\, Blood Freak has rightfully earned a lasting reputation as one of the worst (and most utterly baffling) movies ever made. You may be too terrified to eat your Thanksgiving dinner after watching this turkey! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. However\, we encourage researching titles to determine if a screening may contain content that could be upsetting to you. Please feel free to contact us for guidance on specific films. SUMMARY:Bong Joon Ho's modern monster movie classic THE HOST (2006) -- 20th anniversary re-release!
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“ONE OF THE GREATEST MONSTER MOVIES EVER MADE” – New York Magazine \n\n\n\nThe Host\, the legendary monster movie from Bong Joon Ho\, the Academy Award-winning director of Parasite and Snowpiercer\, returns to the big screen for its 20th anniversary! The film kicks off when a young girl is snatched away from her father by a horrifying giant monster that emerges from the River Han. As her entire family sets out to locate the beast and bring their little girl back home to safety\, the monster wreaks terrifying havoc on Seoul. Inspired by Bong’s childhood love of kaiju films like Godzilla and Ultraman\, The Host combines state-of-the-art special effects with poignant human drama and Bong’s trademark razor-sharp social commentary that remains relevant two decades later. \n\n\n\nThe Host is playing twice: On Nov. 21 at 4:14 pm and on Nov. 23 at 7 pm. Be sure to select your preferred showtime at checkout.

SUMMARY:NOIRVEMBER: Humphrey Bogart in parody cult classic BEAT THE DEVIL (1953) -- $3
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Beat the Devil went straight from box office flop to cult classic and has been called the first camp movie… The movie has above all effortless charm.” – Roger Ebert \n\n\n\nA sun‑baked\, off‑kilter caper starring Humphrey Bogart and directed by John Huston that breezily parodies the hard-boiled noirs and adventure films those two had made together\, Beat the Devil is one of the most lovably eccentric films to emerge from the Golden Age of Hollywood. Bogart drifts through a tangle of schemers\, dreamers\, and double‑crossers played by the likes of Peter Lorre\, Jennifer Jones\, and Gina Lollobrigida\, who set out on a crooked quest for African uranium only to get waylaid in a sleepy coastal Mediterranean town. Filmed on location in Naples and Ravello\, Huston threw out the script on the first day and flew out Truman Capote to rewrite the whole thing on the fly. (Capote demanded daily phone calls with his pet raven\, and one day when the raven refused to answer he flew to Rome to console it\, delaying the production.) Boozy\, mischievous\, and deliriously chaotic\, this oddball noir-comedy confounded audiences at the time\, but it quickly earned a rabid cult following. Bogart\, who’d sunk his own money into the production\, once moaned\, “Only phonies like it.” Well\, count us as the ultimate phonies then\, because we love it…and we think you will too! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nWhen a screening is sold out\, we open a waitlist 30 minutes before showtime. SUMMARY:Kiyoshi Kurosawa's CURE (1997)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Kurosawa’s moody\, unnerving film continues to spook us even after the lights have gone on” – Kenneth Turan\, Los Angeles Times \n\n\n\nKiyoshi Kurosawa’s spellbinding international breakthrough established him as one of the leaders of the emerging new wave of Japanese horror while pushing the genre into uncharted realms of philosophical and existential exploration. A string of shocking\, seemingly unmotivated murders—each committed by a different person yet bearing the same grisly hallmarks—leads Detective Kenichi Takabe (Koji Yakusho) into a labyrinthine investigation to discover what connects them\, and into a disturbing game of cat and mouse with an enigmatic amnesiac (Masato Hagiwara) who may be evil incarnate. Awash in a mood of hushed\, hypnotic dread\, Cure is a tour de force of psychological tension and a hallucinatory journey into the darkest recesses of the human mind. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (1991)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The stuff that nightmares are made of” – Harper Barnes\, St. Louis Post Dispatch \n\n\n\nWith this chilling adaptation of the best-selling novel by Thomas Harris\, the astonishingly versatile director Jonathan Demme crafted a taut psychological thriller about an American obsession: serial murder. As Clarice Starling\, an FBI trainee who enlists the help of the infamous Hannibal “the Cannibal” Lecter to gain insight into the mind of another killer\, Jodie Foster subverts traditional gender dynamics and gives one of the most memorable performances of her career. As her foil\, Anthony Hopkins is the archetypal antihero—cultured\, quick-witted\, and savagely murderous—delivering a harrowing portrait of humanity gone terribly wrong. A gripping police procedural and a disquieting immersion into a twisted psyche\, The Silence of the Lambs swept the Academy Awards® (Best Picture\, Director\, Screenplay\, Actress\, Actor) and remains a cultural touchstone. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:NOIRVEMBER: Relentless rollercoaster of suspense WOMAN ON THE RUN (1950) -- $3
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The best film noir you have never seen!” – Eddie Muller\, host of TCM’s Noir Alley \n\n\n\nA lean\, nervy slice of late‑period noir\, Woman on the Run finds Ann Sheridan—who also produced the film herself\, outside the strictures and sexism of the studio system—racing through the streets of San Francisco on a quest to find her husband\, who’s taken flight after witnessing a gangland murder. Filmed on location in the City by the Bay\, San Francisco’s hills and waterfront become a nocturnal labyrinth of piers\, bars\, and back‑alleys\, all humming with menace. Director Norman Foster\, a protégé of Orson Welles\, brings scintillating style to this elementally simple story\, which reaches its crescendo at a waterfront amusement park where Ann Sheridan takes a roller coaster ride for her life. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Elliott Gould in Robert Altman's THE LONG GOODBYE (1973)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLOST IN THE ARTHOUSE is a monthly series hosted by Arkadin co-owner Keith Watson that takes you to hidden corners of filmdom far from Hollywood. From must-see classics to obscurities waiting to be discovered\, these films stand at cinema’s bleeding edge. \n\n\n\n“The Long Goodbye is not just classic Altman\, classic neo-Noir\, and classic satire\, it’s one of the best and most underrated films of the 1970s.” – Edge Media Network \n\n\n\nA wonderfully idiosyncratic (and very\, very ’70s) riff on Raymond Chandler’s hard-boiled detective novels\, The Long Goodbye finds Robert Altman at his loosest and loveliest. Who but Altman would have thought to cast Elliott Gould as Chandler’s wisecracking\, hard-drinking private eye Phillip Marlowe—a role previously defined by Humphrey Bogart—refashioning him as a sardonic\, neurotic\, mumbling cat dad wandering through the licentious\, hedonistic world of the 1970s. After helping out an old friend\, Marlowe is drawn into a labyrinthine investigation involving murder\, loan sharks\, a shady detox center\, and a missing novelist played to grizzled perfection by Sterling Hayden. With each twist of the plot and every new variation on John Williams’ omnipresent title tune\, The Long Goodbye exposes the darkness lurking beneath L.A.’s sun-splashed surface. Altman’s revisionist noir was not a hit upon release but has aged like a fine California Cab\, appearing now as one of the quintessential New Hollywood films—shaggy\, funny\, and ultimately haunting. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Disney's FANTASIA (1940) presented by Strange Brew
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis film is presented by St. Louis’s long-running cult film series Strange Brew — winner of the 2025 A-List Award for Best Movie Night in St. Louis. Strange Brew programmer Jon Scorfina will provide an introduction. \n\n\n\nFantasia is widely considered one of the greatest and most influential animated films ever made. Released in 1940\, producer Walt Disney originally conceived a short Silly Symphony cartoon called The Sorcerer’s Apprentice to help revitalize the popularity of Disney’s mascot Mickey Mouse. However\, the production cost proved to be too expensive for one short animated piece\, leading Disney to expand the idea into an anthology film that included eight different animated sequences adding visuals to classical music pieces.  \n\n\n\nDisney toured Fantasia with a theatrical roadshow\, starting at the Broadway Theater in New York City in November of 1940\, and introduced Fantasound\, a sound-system that made Fantasia the world’s first commercial film released in stereo sound. The film was not originally a financial success\, primarily because leasing the Fantasound equipment to movie theaters across the country was very expensive. The film was re-released by RKO and Buena Vista Distribution in 1942 in a standard-format and garnered both critical and commercial acclaim. In 1990\, Fantasia was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being “culturally\, historically\, or aesthetically significant.” \n\n\n\nThe classical music pieces are conducted by Leopold Stokowski and are performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra. The program includes:  \n\n\n\nToccata and Fugue in D Minor by Johann Sebastian Bach. Directed by Samuel Armstrong. The Nutcracker Suite by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Directed by Samuel Armstrong. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice by Paul Dukas. Directed by James Algar. The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky. Directed by Bill Roberts and Paul Satterfield.Intermission/Meet the Soundtrack. Directed by Ben Sharpsteen and David D. SUMMARY:Stunning stop-motion/live-action hybrid ORFEO (2025)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A whimsical\, finely crafted creation; a mélange of vintage techniques\, its interweaving of countless literary and cinematic references forms a film that is inarguably a product of its director’s idiosyncratic interests… Orfeo is a reworking of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth set in a highly stylized 1960s Milan and a labyrinthine underworld\, and which consists of both stop-motion animation and live-action film.” – In Review Online \n\n\n\nVilloresi’s singular take on the myth of Orpheus is an entrancing celebration of the possibilities of cinematic artifice. Villoresi reenvisions Orpheus as a loner pianist whose gaze meets that of a stranger\, Eura\, at the club where he performs one night; they fall in love\, only for Eura to disappear almost as suddenly. Orpheus catches a glimpse of her some time later and follows her into what we come to realize is a visionary\, sensual reimagination of the underworld. Adapted from Dino Buzzati’s 1969 graphic novel Poema a fumetti\, Villoresi’s feature debut combines beautiful 16mm photography\, lovingly handcrafted sets\, meticulously orchestrated stop-motion animation\, and in-camera optical effects to arrive at a mesmerizing\, artisanal work that announces its director as one of Italian cinema’s most exciting new voices.
