SUMMARY:Dario Argento's SUSPIRIA (1977)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Suspiria truly is one of the absolute classics of the horror genre and anyone who considers themselves to be true students of the cinema owe it to themselves to experience it for themselves\, especially if they get a chance to see it on the big screen where it belong.” – RogerEbert.com \n\n\n\nOne of the most powerful and hallucinatory nightmares ever captured on celluloid\, Dario Argento’s SUSPIRIA follows ballet student Suzy Bannon (Jessica Harper) who uncovers dark and horrific secrets within the walls of a famous German dance academy. Delirious\, intoxicating\, ravishing and terrifying\, SUSPIRIA is a nightmare you never want to end. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Disney's ROBIN HOOD (1973) w/ Disney cartoons pre-show @ 1:30 pm
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A jaunty\, beautifully animated series of very funny set pieces that remain effective” – IndieWire \n\n\n\nIf any Walt Disney animated classic can be considered a true cult favorite\, it’s this delightfully eccentric take on the Merrie Olde English legend of Robin Hood and his Merry Men. Anthropomorphizing its title hero as an almost too-dashing fox\, ROBIN HOOD is a feast of adorable mammalian character designs and a folksy sense of humor that dragged the timeless tale straight into the 1970s. With a charming handmade scruffiness that marks it out from the House of Mouse’s typically slick style\, ROBIN HOOD was dismissed by critics but beloved by audiences\, later becoming the very first entry in the “Walt Disney Classics” line of VHS releases. The film maintains a legion of fans\, including Wes Anderson (who repurposed the film’s Oscar-nominated ballad “Love” for his own vulpine animated tale\, The Fantastic Mr. Fox)\, Byron Howard (whose film Zootopia drew direct inspiration from ROBIN HOOD)\, and a legion of furries who simply can’t get enough of Robin and Maid Marian. (We can’t exactly blame them!) \n\n\n\nCome out before the film for a selection of Disney animated shorts\, starting at 1:30 pm! \n\n\n\nThis film is screening as part of Arkadin’s month-long series KNIGHTY KNIGHT\, featuring knights in shining armor and other medieval tales! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. SUMMARY:Mel Brooks' ROBIN HOOD: MEN IN TIGHTS (1993) w/ Mel Brooks on TV pre-show @ 3:45 pm
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Wild\, anarchic\, scatological delight!” – Variety \n\n\n\nNo one achieves stupid humor with quite the brilliance of Mel Brooks\, and they don’t come much stupider or more brilliant than ROBIN HOOD: MEN IN TIGHTS. Starring Cary Elwes as perhaps the most credible Robin of Locksley to hit the big screen since Errol Flynn\, Brooks’ free-wheeling satire is at once a loving tribute to the timeless tale and an all-out assault on good taste and propriety. Drawing heavily from Flynn’s 1938 classic as well as Kevin Costner’s bloated Prince of Thieves while\, Brooks\, in typical fashion\, takes potshots at an eclectic selection of pop-cultural targets. Everything from Gone with the Wind to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles gets felled by the film’s satirical blade. Brooks also diversifies this whitey-white tale\, creating surely the very first telling of the Robin Hood legend to include jokes about circumcision and hip hop. Featuring a stacked cast that includes a pre-fame Dave Chappelle\, a height-of-his-powers Richard Lewis\, an arguably-past-their-prime-but-still-hilarious Dick Van Patten and Dom DeLuise\, startling appearances by Patrick Stewart and Isaac Hayes\, and Amy Yasbeck as the most sex-mad Maid Marian you’ve ever seen\, MEN IN TIGHTS is such dumb fun it could only have been created by a comedy genius. \n\n\n\nDID YOU KNOW? Men in Tights wasn’t Brooks’ first foray into Sherwood Forest. In the 1970s\, he created a short-lived Robin Hood sitcom called When We Were Rotten. Before the film\, we’ll be playing an episode of this little-seen chapter in Mel’s storied comedy career\, starting at 3:45 pm. \n\n\n\nThis film is screening as part of Arkadin’s month-long series KNIGHTY KNIGHT\, featuring knights in shining armor and other medieval tales! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:WHERE OLIVE TREES WEEP (2024) -- Film Screening for Palestine
DESCRIPTION:Reserve Tickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhere Olive Trees Weep offers a searing window into the struggles and resilience of the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation. It explores themes of loss\, trauma\, and the quest for justice. We follow\, among others\, Palestinian journalist and therapist Ashira Darwish\, grassroots activist Ahed Tamimi\, and Israeli journalist Amira Hass. We witness Dr. Gabor Maté offering trauma-healing work for a group of women who have been tortured in Israeli prisons. Ancient landscapes bear deep scars\, having witnessed the brutal reality of ancestral land confiscation\, expulsions\, imprisonment\, home demolitions\, water deprivation\, and denial of basic human rights. Yet\, through the veil of oppression\, we catch a glimpse of resilience—deep roots that have carried the Palestinian people through decades of darkness and shattered lives. This emotional journey bares the humanity of the oppressed while grappling with the question: what makes the oppressor so ruthlessly blind to its own cruelty? \n\n\n\nSuggested donation of $10 at the door. All proceeds will be donated to The Palestine Children’s Relief Fund. \n\n\n\nThis screening is presented by St. Louis Democratic Socialists of America\, National Lawyers Guild WashU Chapter\, National Lawyers Guild SLU Chapter\, St. Louis Palestine Solidarity Committee\, and Not Another Nickel. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. SUMMARY:Orson Welles' anti-fascist noir THE STRANGER (1946) w/ anti-Nazi cartoons pre-show @ 2:30 pm
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Welles’s feverish\, politically uneasy noir remains an outstanding achievement…. Released a little over a year after the cessation of fighting between the Allied Forces and Germany\, The Stranger offers haunting insight into the fascist mind and never shies away from the reality that the National Socialist party was fascism’s most successful and devastating incarnate but certainly not its last.” – Slant Magazine \n\n\n\nOrson Welles’ only true-blue box office success as a director has\, paradoxically\, remained one of the most under-seen and under-discussed entries in his oeuvre. But as the tides of Trumpian fascism wash over America\, there’s no better time to (re)discover this searing thriller\, a gripping noir thriller that doubles as an indictment of Nazi criminality and American complicity. Edward G. Robinson\, an anti-fascist in his own life\, plays a UN war crimes investigator tracking high-ranking Nazi fugitive Franz Kindler (Orson Welles)\, who’s taken refuge at a small Connecticut prep school. Anticipating the stories of Nazi officials recruited to the US under Operation Paperclip\, THE STRANGER is perhaps Welles’ most nakedly political work\, eschewing the stylistic swagger of his best-known masterpieces in favor of a blunt paranoia that reflects the post-War cynicism among many Americans that while the Allies may have won the War\, the hideous allure of fascism had not been fully defeated. \n\n\n\nCome out early for a pre-show of anti-Nazi cartoons starting at 2:30 pm! \n\n\n\nThis film is screening as part of Arkadin’s NOIRVEMBER series\, $3 Sunday matinees of film noir classics that spotlight the broken dreams and bitter paranoia of this distinctly American genre. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:SMARTY (1934) presented by Forbidden Hollywood
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nForbidden Hollywood is a monthly series hosted by STL film critic Katie Carter celebrating the Pre-Code films of the early 1930s\, when movies were wild\, racy\, transgressive\, and tons of fun. \n\n\n\nMarketed with the taglines “A picture with a wallop!” and “She changed her husbands like she changed her hats\,” Warner Brothers’ 1934 comedy SMARTY may be more accurately described by its UK title\, Hit Me Again. Vivacious Joan Blondell stars as Vickie\, who sets the action of the film in motion when she goads her husband Tony (Warren William) into slapping her at a party. A messy whirl of divorce\, remarriage\, and extra-marital affairs among their social circle follows. Its abrasive treatment of its subject has generated controversy in the decades since its release\, but while SMARTY is frequently derided for supposedly endorsing spousal abuse\, it’s actually an incisive dive into the life of a woman who enjoys rough sex and knows how to get it\, populated by female characters who always maintain their agency. Featuring one of the most pre-Code casts imaginable— character actors Edward Everett Horton and Frank McHugh as well as Claire Dodd join William and Blondell—SMARTY is the sort of gleefully sordid\, uniquely pre-Code film that couldn’t even be made today. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:GHOST IN THE SHELL (1995) -- 30th Anniversary Screening presented by Strange Brew
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis film is presented by St. Louis’s long-running cult film series Strange Brew — winner of the 2025 A-List Award for Best Movie Night in St. Louis. Strange Brew programmer Jon Scorfina will provide an introduction. \n\n\n\nGhost in the Shell (1995) is set in a fictional 2029 in which cybernetic technology allows for the human body to be fully replaced with mechanical body parts and lets the brain connect directly to the internet. Major Motoko Kusanagi is the cyborg leader of Public Security Section 9 in Japan. The Major and her team are investigating a highly advanced artificial intelligence known as the Puppet Master that can “ghost hack” cyberized bodies. As the Major gets closer to catching the puppet master\, she struggles with a philosophical debate about the very nature of consciousness and the soul. \n\n\n\nAdapted from the manga by Masamune Shirow\, Ghost in the Shell was a Japanese British international co-production from  Kodansha\, Bandai Visual and Manga Entertainment\, all who were looking to create an anime film as critically acclaimed and successful as the groundbreaking Akira. The film originally failed to recoup its budget during its theatrical release\, but soon gained a massive cult following when it was released on VHS\, becoming the first Japanese film ever to top the Billboard video sales chart in 1996. Now Ghost in the Shell is widely regarded as a masterpiece\, with praise for director Mamoru Oshii for his “thermo-optical camouflage” animation and a memorable score by Kenji Kawai. The film launched a franchise that includes multiple sequels\, television series and a live-action Hollywood remake\, as well as having a massive influence on the Wachowskis when they created The Matrix. \n\n\n\nWith AI technology playing an increasingly large and disruptive role in our society\, Ghost in the Shell has never been a more relevant film to reexamine than today. Don’t miss this 30th anniversary screening presented by Strange Brew celebrating one of the most acclaimed sci-fi anime films of all time. \n\n\n\nThe film will be presented in its dubbed version. \n\n\n\nA Ghost in the Shell – Tachikomatic Days preshow will begin at 6:25 pm.   \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:LEGEND (1985) w/ Bryan Ferry pre-show @ 6:30 pm
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A truly Freudian fairytale…exudes a disorientating\, almost druggy\, other-worldliness.” – Telegraph \n\n\n\nAfter changing the face of science fiction cinema forever with Alien and Blade Runner\, director Ridley Scott turned his visionary eye to the fantasy genre\, teaming with writer William Hjortsberg (Angel Heart) to create a breathtaking cinematic fairytale with one of the screen’s most astonishingly rendered depictions of Evil. A baby-faced Tom Cruise plays pure-hearted Jack\, who takes his true love Princess Lili (Mia Sara) to see a pair of unicorns frolicking at the forest’s edge. Little do they know\, however\, that the Lord of Darkness (Tim Curry\, delivering a truly majestic camp-devil performance underneath a metric ton of make-up designed by The Thing maestro Rob Bottin) has dispatched his minions to capture the unicorns and sever their horns so that he may plunge the world into everlasting night. After Lili and the unicorns are taken prisoner\, Jack must team with a group of forest creatures and descend into Darkness’ subterranean lair to face off against the devilish creature before it is too late. \n\n\n\nDespite a troubled production in which the elaborate full-size forest set was accidentally incinerated and a lengthy post-production that resulted in multiple versions of the film\, LEGEND has been embraced as a cult classic and remains one of the most immersive and truly gorgeous fantasy worlds ever created on screen. We will be presenting the film in its original U.S. theatrical cut\, complete with the Tangerine Dream score and climactic Bryan Ferry power ballad that American Legend fans know and love. \n\n\n\nAnd speaking of Bryan Ferry\, come out early for a Ferry pre-show starting at 6:30 pm\, featuring some of the suave crooner’s finest tunes\, both as a solo artist and as front man for the immortal Roxy Music. SUMMARY:Ida Lupino's gripping noir classic THE HITCH-HIKER (1953)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Absolutely assured in her creation of the bleak\, noir atmosphere – whether in the claustrophobic confines of the car\, or lost in the arid expanses of the desert – Lupino never relaxes the tension for one moment… Taut\, tough\, and entirely without macho-glorification\, it’s a gem\, with first-class performances from its three protagonists\, deftly characterised without resort to cliché.” – Time Out Film Guide \n\n\n\nAn A-List actress-turned-independent writer\, producer\, and director\, Ida Lupino is one of the few female filmmakers to have worked in 1950s Hollywood. But her films are not just “famous firsts” — they’re tough\, raw\, sensitive and totally fresh. Unlike anything else being made at the time\, Lupino’s directorial efforts “represent”—as no less an authority than Martin Scorsese put it—”a singular achievement in American cinema.” And there’s no better example of Lupino’s muscular work than her legendary noir-thriller\, THE HITCH-HIKER. Based on true events\, the film takes us on the vacation from hell\, as businessmen Edmond O’Brien and Frank Lovejoy\, on their way to do some fishing\, pick up the wrong guy: psychopath William Talman. A major influence on films like The Hitcher\, THE HITCH-HIKER is a “tension-packed tour de force” (Ronnie Scheib). No wonder it was Lupino’s personal favorite of her films. \n\n\n\nThis film is screening as part of Arkadin’s NOIRVEMBER series\, $3 Sunday matinees of film noir classics that spotlight the broken dreams and bitter paranoia of this distinctly American genre. SUMMARY:MARKETA LAZAROVÁ (1967) presented by Lost in the Arthouse
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLOST IN THE ARTHOUSE is a monthly series hosted by Arkadin co-owner Keith Watson that takes you to hidden corners of filmdom far from Hollywood. From must-see classics to obscurities waiting to be discovered\, these films stand at cinema’s bleeding edge. \n\n\n\n“Marketa Lazarová sweeps us up in a sort of rapture before we even get our feet on the ground. František Vláčil directs with a symphonic variation of tone and pace\, moving with assurance from the frenetic to the contemplative\, the horrific to the erotic.” – Tom Gunning \n\n\n\nIn its native land\, František Vláčil’s MARKETA LAZAROVÁ has been hailed as the greatest Czech film ever made in a poll of over 100 Czech film critics. For those outside of Czechia who’ve yet to discover it\, the film is a revelation. Based on a novel by Vladislav Vančura\, this stirring and poetic depiction of a feud between two rival medieval clans is a fierce\, epic\, and meticulously designed evocation of the clashes between Christianity and paganism\, humankind and nature\, love and violence. Vláčil’s approach was to re-create the textures and mentalities of a long-ago way of life\, rather than to make a conventional historical drama\, and the result is dazzling. With its inventive widescreen cinematography\, editing\, and sound design\, MARKETA LAZAROVÁ is an experimental action film. DESCRIPTION:SAINT LOUIS VIDEO SOCIETY digs deep in its extensive archives to present the weirdest\, wildest\, most incredible VHS obscurities. Always free\, always presented by Video Society archivist James Milam! \n\n\n\nWhat is Emanon? Or rather\, WHO is EMANON?! Why he’s a magical\, mysterious homeless man played by writer/director Stuart Paul in one of the most bizarre vanity projects ever conceived. This “modern-day wino Christ” (LA Weekly) must help a very wealthy\, sick child (Growing Pains‘ Jeremy Miller) and his fashion-designer mom overcome the grief of losing a loved one. Not one to shy away from savior vibes\, the titular Emanon makes messianic mischief as he spouts half-baked\, New Age psychobabble\, all while saving the family’s floundering fashion business. The film itself is a family affair with not just one\, but SIX (!) Pauls working in front of\, and behind\, the camera–including Baby Geniuses franchise producer Steven Paul. They’re practically the Osmonds with so much talent in their DNA! \n\n\n\nEMANON (1987) has never been released on DVD\, Blu-ray or streaming\, so this is a once in lifetime chance to catch the film on VHS at Arkadin on Monday November 10th at 7pm! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Abel Gance's anti-war epic J'ACCUSE (1919) presented by Silents\, Please! STL
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis film is presented by Silents\, Please! STL and will feature a special introduction from SPSTL’s Kate Stewart. \n\n\n\n“One of the most terrible indictments against war which it is possible to imagine” -Kinematograph Weekly \n\n\n\nFive months after the armistice was signed that ended World War I\, Abel Gance premiered his epic J’ACCUSE in Paris. Many of his Gance’s friends had been killed in the trenches\, and\, as the director later explained\, “J’ACCUSE for me was not just a film…I had a feeling of frenzy to use this new medium\, the cinema\, to show the world the stupidity of war.” And show it he did\, with the vibrant style and epic scope that defines the work of this brilliant early-film auteur. The main story is a love triangle between Jean\, a pacifist poet\, who’s in love with Edith\, who is in turn unhappily married to François\, a brutish provincial farmer. When war is declared\, both men join the army\, serving in the same frontline regiment. Battling the Germans together\, Jean and François reach an uneasy truce \, but back at home\, Edith is put in harm’s way due to her husband’s jealous suspicions. The film was incorporates real battle footage\, as well as actual letters sent home by two of Gance’s friends who died in the war. J’ACCUSE’s celebrated “Return of the Dead” sequence was filmed using 2\,000 soldiers on leave. The film remains a blistering indictment of war that sadly resonates to this day. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:THE GREEN KNIGHT (2021) w/ animated "Green Knight" pre-show
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A dazzling\, dizzying fever dream…It’s always a thrilling thing when a filmmaker creates an entire world that engulfs us from the opening moments\, and that’s certainly the case with The Green Knight.” – Chicago Sun-Times \n\n\n\nAn epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend\, David Lowery’s majestic\, mysterious THE GREEN KNIGHT tells the story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel)\, King Arthur’s (Sean Harris) reckless and headstrong nephew\, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight (Ralph Ineson)\, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts\, giants\, thieves\, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger. SUMMARY:George A. Romero's moto-jousting epic KNIGHTRIDERS (1981)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A BRILLIANT FILM\, even though no one paid it much attention when it was released in 1981…Knightriders is about 50 percent scenes of kick-ass moto-jousting\, 40 percent philosophizing around the campfire\, and 10 percent lyrical shots of King William trying to exist in the same landscape as fast-food restaurants.” – Noel Murray\, The Dissolve \n\n\n\nThough best known for revolutionizing the zombie film with Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead\, George A. Romero’s masterpiece might just be a hard-to-describe\, impossible-to-sell tale of a traveling band of motorcycle-riding medieval reenactors who stage elaborate (and dangerous) moto-jousting shows at Ren Faires around rural Pennsylvania. A deeply personal epic of masculine fragility\, contemporary alienation and creative community-building\, the film features Ed Harris in his first starring role as the troupe’s mercurial leader King William\, a man outside time whose chivalrous ideals run up against the modern world’s hunger for cheap thrills and big money. In a meta touch\, Romero’s long-time collaborator Tom Savini (designer of special effects and makeup for many of Romero’s horror efforts) co-stars as the Black Knight\, whose willingness to sell out King William’s vision could cause the group’s fracture. KNIGHTRIDERS was\, unsurprisingly\, a flop upon its release\, but this massively underseen masterpiece deserves rediscovery as a pivotal film in Romero’s filmography\, a vital modern translation of Arthurian legend\, and one of the most incisive cinematic explorations of the fraternity that forms around creative pursuits. SUMMARY:Fritz Lang's nightmarish noir SCARLET STREET (1945) -- $3
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“ONE OF THE 25 GREATEST NOIRS OF ALL TIME! Deeply perverse\, and immensely enjoyable for the ways writer Dudley Nichols and Fritz Lang run circles around the Production Code.” – Eddie Muller\, host of TCM’s Noir Alley \n\n\n\nA psychologically complex melodrama written in glistening black-and-white\, SCARLET STREET finds one of cinema’s great poets of doom at his fatalistic peak. Having struck gold with 1944’s The Woman in the Window\, Lang reassembled that film’s dynamite leads\, Edward G. Robinson\, Joan Bennett\, and Dan Duryea\, again the following year for SCARLET STREET. The quartet knocked another one out of the park\, producing a film noir so potent it was banned in Atlanta\, Milwaukee\, and the entire state of New York. Robinson stars as Chris Cross\, a lonely and unhappily married clerk who falls for a brassy prostitute (Bennett)\, not realizing that she’s in love with her pimp (Duryea) and that the pair are milking him for whatever cash he can earn or steal. The atmosphere is thick with all the guilt\, paranoia\, and cynicism you’d expect from the man who gave us M\, and it all leads toward one of the most nightmarish dénouements in noir history. \n\n\n\nThis film is screening as part of Arkadin’s NOIRVEMBER series\, $3 Sunday matinees of film noir classics that spotlight the broken dreams and bitter paranoia of this distinctly American genre.

SUMMARY:Weirdo Estonian Folk Horror NOVEMBER (2017) -- 𝔉𝔬𝔩𝔨 ℌ𝔬𝔯𝔯𝔬𝔯 𝔄𝔯𝔬𝔲𝔫𝔡 𝔗𝔥𝔢 𝔚𝔬𝔯𝔩𝔡
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Part Grimm fairy tale\, part Eastern European folklore\, and all fever dream…it’s as beautiful as it is profoundly weird as fuck.” – Rolling Stone \n\n\n\nSet in a pagan Estonian village where werewolves\, the plague\, and spirits roam\, Rainer Sarnet’s third feature film is a bold\, twisted fairy tale about unrequited love. In NOVEMBER\, the villagers’ main problem is how to survive the cold\, dark winter. And\, to that aim\, nothing is taboo. People steal from each other\, from their German manor lords\, from spirits\, the devil\, and from Christ. They are willing to give away their souls to thieving creatures made of wood and metal called kratts\, who help their masters\, whose soul they purchased\, steal even more. A young farmgirl Liina (Rea Lest) is hopelessly in love with Hans (Jörgen Liik)\, a nearby farmhand\, whose heart she loses to the daughter of the German manor lord. In order to regain his love\, Liina turns to any means necessary\, even if that means tapping into the black magic that is circling around the village. Estonian pagan legends and Christian mythologies come to a spell-binding intersection in NOVEMBER. \n\n\n\nEach month\, Arkadin presents a selection of FOLK HORROR AROUND THE WORLD\, creepy folktales from all corner of the globe to give you the Sunday scaries. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:THE FIRST WIVES CLUB (1996) presented by Girlhood
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGirlhood is a semi-regular series hosted by Arkadin co-owner Sarah Baraba that spotlights stories of sisterhood on the silver screen. \n\n\n\n“Exhilaratingly woman-positive and funny!” – On The Issues \n\n\n\nStarring powerhouse comediennes Diane Keaton (RIP)\, Goldie Hawn and Bette Midler\, THE FIRST WIVES CLUB continues to deliver delights nearly 30 years on. Three college besties reunite after a tragedy and discover that they have more in common than their ambition to succeed in life (and their Lesley Gore fandom) — they also all have scumbag cheating husbands who need to learn a lesson. So these baddies wrangle their wits to bring down the patriarchy. Though at its heart a comedy\, FWC tackles heavy issues — identity\, aging\, self-esteem\, alcoholism\, changing friendship dynamics — as our heroines realize that maybe revenge is a dish best served through building each other up rather than tearing each other down. Is it the perfect feminist film? Certainly not. But as the film repeatedly points out — it’s the 90s!  \n\n\n\nThe film will be preceded by a “You Don’t Own Me” sing-along. Dressing in white pantsuits is strongly encouraged\, but not required. Like them\, Boxcutter has plenty of soul.” – CTV’s Your Morning \n\n\n\nAspiring rapper Rome has the talent and vision to break out in Toronto’s hip-hop scene\, but his crippling insecurity is holding him back. When he learns that megastar producer Richie Hill will be making an appearance at a local club\, Rome seizes the chance to meet him and get his album into Richie’s hands. However\, disaster strikes when Rome’s apartment is burglarized and the only copy of his album is stolen. Racing across the city with his friend Jenaya\, Rome scrambles to track down his collaborators and his records before the show begins and he misses his one shot.
