SUMMARY:THE HONEYMOON KILLERS (1970)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Stoler is Divine\, Annie Wilkes\, Joan Rivers and Nurse Ratchet merged into one unforgettable performance. The film’s low budget\, often amateurish editing\, and hand-held camerawork blend beautifully and make the film into a work of art.” – Stefan Birgir Stefans \n\n\n\nMartha Beck (Shirley Stoler) is sullen\, overweight\, and lonely. Desperate for affection\, she joins Aunt Carrie’s Friendship Club and strikes up a correspondence with Ray Fernandez (Tony Lo Bianco)\, a charismatic smooth talker who could be the man of her dreams—or a degenerate con artist. Based on a shocking true story and shot in documentary-style black and white by the confident and inspired Leonard Kastle\, in what would be his only foray into filmmaking\, THE HONEYMOON KILLERS is a stark portrayal of the desperate lengths to which a lonely heart will go to find true love. THE HONEYMOON KILLERS was one of John Waters’ picks when he visited the Criterion Closet\, and he said Shirley Stoler’s performance was so vivid and raw that when he finally met her in person\, he was afraid she might kill him! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. However\, we encourage researching titles to determine if a screening may contain content that could be upsetting to you. Please feel free to contact us for guidance on specific films. Information about content can also be found on Common Sense Media\, IMDB and DoesTheDogDie.com\, as well as through general internet searches. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. We follow the MPAA rating guidelines for all other films.\n\n\n\nTickets can be purchased using the BUY TICKETS link above. Upon ordering\, you will receive a confirmation email from Square. Tickets may also be purchased on the day of the show at the concession counter.\n\n\n\nIf you’ve purchased advance tickets\, when you arrive\, please give your name at the concession counter to check in. \n\n\n\nTickets are returnable by sending a request through the contact form located on our About Us page prior to showtime.\n\n\n\nWhen an event is sold out\, we reserve the right to release open seats to customers on the waitlist. SUMMARY:$3 MONDAY MYSTERY MOVIE: A Delirious Ultra-Camp Disasterpiece (and one of John Waters' favorite films!)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn the last Monday of every month\, Arkadin chooses an underseen deep cut to inflict upon an unwitting audience. Though the genre and tone may change\, the price always remains the same: three measly bucks. You can’t afford not to get yourself a ticket! \n\n\n\nThis month’s Mystery Movie comes to you courtesy of the man we’re celebrating all summer long—the Pope of Trash himself…John Waters! A truly bizarre slice of ecstatic camp of the most garishly overwrought variety\, this movie does everything John Waters spent his early career trying to achieve—only it does it unintentionally and with 500x the budget. This gonzo delight boasts an all-star pedigree: Never before have so many talented people made something so laughably deranged. Your jaw will be dropped! Your ribs will be tickled! Your gut will be busted! And your brain will be fried by this marvelous disasterpiece. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. SUMMARY:IDIOCRACY (2006) w/ American Idiot 250th Semiquincentennial Pre-show presented by Strange Brew
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A movie that was originally a comedy\, but became a documentary.” – Urban Dictionary \n\n\n\nU.S. Army librarian Joe Bauers (Luke Wilson) takes part in an experimental government hibernation program that goes afoul and results in Joe reawakening five hundred years later in a painfully stupid dystopia in the cult comedy Idiocracy (2006). The inept authorities are unable to identify Joe\, leading to a correctional facility renaming him “Not Sure” before subjecting him to an aptitude test. Despite being of average intelligence in his own time\, he returns the highest IQ in the world from this basic aptitude test in the year 2505. Soon the President of the United States\, Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho (Terry Crews) tasks “Not Sure” with fixing the country’s food supply\, economy and massive dust storms within a week under threat of imprisonment.  \n\n\n\nDirected by Mike Judge (Beavis and Butthead\, Office Space)\, Idiocracy was given a limited release by 20th Century Fox in 2006. The studio seemingly intentionally buried the film\, providing virtually no movie trailers\, ads or press kits\, and resulting in a less than $500\,000 box office in its limited theatrical run. However\, the film has since gone on to garner a devoted cult fanbase with its parody of dysgenics\, corporate sponsored politics and anti-intellectualism. Idiocracy also stars Maya Rudolph as Rita the sex worker and Dax Shepard as Frito the Lawyer.    \n\n\n\nAn American Idiot 250th Semiquincentennial Preshow starts at 6:30 pm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Steven King's SILVER BULLET (1985) presented by Dark Dream Cinema
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Silver Bullet is a whole ton of fun\, and even though it’s not one of the scariest of werewolf movies\, it’s one of the more memorable ones.” – AV Nirvana \n\n\n\nYoung Marty Coslaw (Corey Haim) has an imagination and a love of life that far outpace his disabled legs. Buddying up with his Uncle Red (Gary Busey\, never better)\, he scores a ride called the Silver Bullet\, which is half wheelchair and half badass motorbike. And just in time\, too\, for his hometown of Tarker’s Mills has become the new stomping ground for a werewolf. Can Marty identify the monster in their midst\, and outrun the devil to get home in time? Based on Stephen King’s Cycle of the Werewolf\, Silver Bullet is one of the most charming entries in King’s storied catalog. Pitched perfectly between heartfelt horror and tongue-in-cheek camp\, it’s a full-moon thrill ride that serves up the scares without ever skimping out on the fun. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:PSYCHO BEACH PARTY (2000) w/ Surf Rock pre-show
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Blend a ‘50s psychodrama\, a ’60s beach movie and a ‘70s slasher film. Result: PSYCHO BEACH PARTY\, a campy smoothie.” – Mademoiselle \n\n\n\nBased on Charles Busch’s hilarious long-running stage play\, Psycho Beach Party is a wickedly fun satire of slashers\, surf movies\, and Sirkian psychodramas. Chicklet (Lauren Ambrose)\, a wannabe surf-girl with a split personality\, becomes the prime suspect in a string of outrageously gruesome murders that terrifies the teen set in 1960s Malibu. But Chicklet isn’t the only suspect… There’s also the burnt-out surf guru\, a band of local beach hunks\, a platinum-blonde B-movie star\, a Swedish foreign exchange student\, Chicklet’s too-perfect mom\, and more. Only uber-stylish homicide detective Monica Stark (writer/director Charles Busch in drag) can crack the case in this free-wheeling murder-mystery-satire-surf-film! Keep an eye out for Amy Adams in one of her earliest roles as a sex-mad teen and performances by surf rock legends Los Straitjackets. \n\n\n\nCome out early for a Surf Rock music videos pre-show\, starting at 6 pm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Trippy animated classic FANTASTIC PLANET (1973)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Surreal and psychedelic…a counterculture gem!” – Jacob Burns Film Center \n\n\n\nNothing else has ever looked or felt like director René Laloux’s animated marvel Fantastic Planet\, a politically minded and visually inventive work of science fiction. The film is set on a distant planet called Ygam\, where enslaved humans (Oms) are the playthings of giant blue native inhabitants (Draags). After Terr\, kept as a pet since infancy\, escapes from his gigantic child captor\, he is swept up by a band of radical fellow Oms who are resisting the Draags’ oppression and violence. With its eerie\, coolly surreal cutout animation by Roland Topor; brilliant psychedelic jazz score by Alain Goraguer; and wondrous creatures and landscapes\, this Cannes-awarded 1973 counterculture classic is a perennially compelling statement against conformity and violence. \n\n\n\nEach month\, DRAWN VISIONS presents an outré gem from the wild\, wonderful world of animation. Focusing on the strange\, the underseen\, and the unclassifiable\, this series proves cartoons aren’t just for kids\, they’re for total freaks too! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:John Waters' rarely screened first feature MONDO TRASHO (1969) -- FREE!
DESCRIPTION:“Bizarre! Insane! Macabre! [A] delight to trash lovers everywhere” – Derek Winnert \n\n\n\nA trash cinema spectacle combining the queer-underground ethos of Kenneth Anger and Andy Warhol with a carnival freak show\, Mondo Trasho is where it all began for the Pope of Trash. A delirious collage of surreal sketches\, outrageous characters\, and gleeful provocation\, John Waters’ debut feature is raw\, cheap\, and defiantly unpolished. Made on a budget of a couple thousand dollars and scored to a nonstop array of early rock ‘n’ roll\, Mondo Trasho stars Waters’ Dreamland Players\, including Mink Stole\, David Lochary\, Mary Vivian Pearce\, and the immortal Divine in a make-it-up-as-it-goes-along plot involving moonings\, a hit and run\, a hippie foot fetishist\, a deranged insane asylum\, the Virgin Mary\, and chicken foot surgery. Never released on DVD or Blu-ray due to music licensing issues\, Mondo Trasho is a rare opportunity to see Waters’ mad genius take shape. As the film’s original poster announced\, “At last… a gutter film.” \n\n\n\nBut be warned! This movie is not for everyone. Like other early Waters films\, it contains violence toward chickens and other nasty content. \n\n\n\nThis screening is totally free. No ticket is required; seating is first come\, first served. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Barbara Stanwyck in LADIES OF LEISURE (1930) -- $3!
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Ladies of Leisure was Barbara Stanwyck’s first collaboration with Frank Capra\, and boy\, with every close-up he gives her through the lens of Joseph Walker’s camera\, you can practically feel Capra basically falling in love with her on the spot…Stanwyck exudes a wide-eyed sense of wonder that is well-nigh irresistible.” – Kenji Fujishima \n\n\n\nBarbara Stanwyck shot to fame thanks to this zippy! peppy! jazzy! gay! romantic dramedy. Stanwyck stars as a a self-described “party girl” bopping around New York City’s nightlife scene on the prowl for a sugar daddy who strikes up a relationship of convenience (and maybe more) with an aspiring painter (Lowell Sherman) from a wealthy family. Directed by Frank Capra\, Ladies of Leisure helped established the legendary director’s socially conscious style\, while also inaugurating a fruitful partnership with his leading lady. Thanks in no small part to a scene of Stanwyck taking a bath\, this early talkie scandalized some of the more prudish regions of the country\, where it was slapped with a “pink ticket\,” restricting attendance to adults only—but that likely only boosted its success! A critical and commercial hit\, Ladies of Leisure is a key early talkie\, notable for its frank treatment of class\, morality\, and female independence in Hollywood’s daring pre-Code era. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:FERNGULLY: THE LAST RAINFOREST (1992): Fundraiser for Friends of the Rainforest
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEnjoy a night of family-friendly nostalgia and save the rainforest at the same time with this very special fundraiser screening of FernGully! All ticket proceeds benefit Friends of the Rainforest. \n\n\n\nDeep in the heart of the forest awaits a paradise filled with tiny sprites\, winged fairies\, tree spirits\, and a menagerie of animals who live together in joyful harmony. The place is called… FernGully. And every ’90s kid remembers it for the film’s mystical charm\, Robin Williams as a manic bat\, and its haunting vision of environmental destruction embodied in Hexxus\, a malevolent black ooze with the voice of Tim Curry! Perfect for kids\, but just as resonant with adults\, FernGully: The Last Rainforest combines the wonder and whimsy of a Disney movie with a surprisingly radical ecological message. Plus\, it’s the film that reunited Cheech & Chong and features Robin Williams rapping. What’s not to love! \n\n\n\nDoors at 6 pm / Movie at 6:30 pm \n\n\n\nTicket prices start at $12\, but you’re encouraged to give more! 100% of the ticket proceeds will go to Friends of the Rainforest\, a St. Louis-based organization with a mission of inspiring kids and adults to protect and preserve the rainforest in Costa Rica and beyond. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. SUMMARY:POLYESTER (1981) presented in Odorama! plus Blondie pre-show @ 6 pm
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe’re presenting Polyester as the Prince of Puke intended it to be seen (and smelled)—in Odorama! Each ticket includes a scratch-‘n’-sniff Odorama card from Smell Art\, so you can fill your nose with farts\, skunk smells\, car leather\, and more as the film delivers on-screen cues. \n\n\n\n“A rancidly hilarious slice of American Pie!” – Newsweek \n\n\n\nFor his first studio picture\, filth maestro John Waters took advantage of his biggest budget yet to allow his muse Divine to sink his teeth into a role unlike any he had played before: Baltimore housewife Francine Fishpaw\, a heroine worthy of a Douglas Sirk melodrama. Blessed with a keen sense of smell and cursed with a philandering pornographer husband\, a parasitic mother\, and a pair of delinquent children\, the long-suffering Francine turns to the bottle as her life falls apart—until deliverance appears in the form of a hunk named Todd Tomorrow (vintage heartthrob Tab Hunter). One of Waters’ most hilarious inventions\, Polyester is replete with stomach-churning humor\, sadistic nuns\, AA meetings\, and foot stomping galore. \n\n\n\nPlus\, in honor of Polyester‘s Debbie Harry-penned original songs\, we’ll have a Blondie pre-show starting at 6 pm. \n\n\n\nEach ticket includes an Odorama card. You will pick up the card at the concession stand when you check in. \n\n\n\nThis screening is not available for booking with the Club Arkadin pass. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:CAMP (2025) -- a dreamy\, witchy new horror film by Avalon Fast
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“With her sophomore feature\, emerging director Avalon Fast cements herself as one of the most daring young voices in indie horror… Unfolds with a fearless sense of interiority\, an ethereal horror about young women [and] the magic they create to survive.“ – ScreenAnarchy \n\n\n\nThe Craft goes to camp in this dreamily atmospheric coming-of-age chiller from up-and-coming “Girl Horror” auteur Avalon Fast (whom you may have seen starring in recent Arkadin selection The Serpent’s Skin). Camp stars Zola Grimmer as Emily\, a teen girl struggling with two recent tragedies\, who takes a job as a counselor at a summer camp for troubled youth. SUMMARY:A DIRTY SHAME (2004) -- "John Waters' most underrated and prescient film" w/ Jackass pre-show @ 6 pm
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A Dirty Shame is Waters unleashed\, and wicked\, kinky fun for anyone except the twits who rated it NC-17…You may even shed a tear when Sylvia bonds with her daughter by confessing\, ‘”‘I’m a cunnilingus bottom.’ … [T]he Waters spirit stays consistently and sweetly twisted. When the cast takes to the streets singing\, ‘Let’s go sexin’\,’ you want to cheer them on.” – Rolling Stone \n\n\n\nAfter years of making surprisingly audience-friendly studio films\, John Waters returned to his trash roots with this ludicrously entertaining sex comedy that satirizes cultural conservatism with wicked glee. Tracey Ullman stars as Sylvia Stickles\, an uptight convenience store owner who\, after getting bonked on the head\, is transformed into a sex-crazed lunatic. As she goes on a nymphomaniacal rampage through Baltimore\, Sylvia attracts the attention of Ray Ray (Johnny Knoxville)\, a sexual healer and tow truck driver in search of the world’s greatest orgasm. Selma Blair is along for the ride as Sylvia’s go-go dancer daughter who performs under the name Ursula Udders due to her enormous N-cup breast implants. Thanks to its NC-17 rating (given for “pervasive sexual content”) and some fairly shoddy marketing\, A Dirty Shame was a flop in theaters and remains Waters’ final directorial effort to date. But “John Waters’ most underrated and prescient film” (Paste) is crying out for a cult revival. Full of big tits and even bigger laughs\, this raucous\, racy delight might just be the best John Waters film you’ve never seen. Now…LET’S GO SEXIN’!!! \n\n\n\nIn honor of the film’s star\, Johnny Knoxville\, we present a Jackass pre-show\, starting at 6 pm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:SURFER: TEEN CONFRONTS FEAR (2018) -- "a bizarre and worthy successor to The Room" -- Friday Night WTF!
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFriday Night WTF screenings are cheap\, weird\, and out of control! Cult trashterpieces\, so-bad-they’re-good crapfests\, movies that make you ask “What the hell am I watching?!” — we’ve got ’em all on Friday night. \n\n\n\n“A bizarre and worthy successor to the Room… Material this weird can’t be made up: it has to flow through one’s soul.” – SlashFilm \n\n\n\nDoug Burke’s contemporary cult classic Surfer©: Teen Confronts Fear can only be seen in theaters\, and now it comes to Arkadin! A passion project of writer/director/composer/actor Burke\, Surfer©: Teen Confronts Fear is an intensely passionate and spiritual opus that has been captivating midnight movie audiences with its quotable lines\, sudden Bible references\, Jason Bourne-esque assassin subplot\, and tour de force lead performance by Burke and his real-life teen son Sage. Critics have compared it to The Room\, celebrated it as “tremendous\, immense\, indefatigable\, and unique” (ScreenAnarchy)\, and dubbed it “peculiar\, earnest\, nonsensical\, and assembled with little apparent understanding of how things are done” (SlashFilm). But one thing is for sure: no description can prepare you for it. “You may never truly understand it – and I’d worry for you if you did – but you have no choice but to respect it” (ScreenAnarchy). \n\n\n\nOh…what’s it actually about\, you ask? According to the official synopsis: \n\n\n\nSurfing since as young as he can remember\, at the age of 13\, Sage is crippled by fear after suffering a wipeout on a huge wave. The wave slammed him to the bottom and held him pinned there without air until he nearly died. \n\n\n\nWith his whole life still ahead of him yet now paralyzed by fear\, Sage no longer surfs the waves. But unable to ignore the mystical and powerful pull of the ocean\, he fishes in the surf\, and finds more than he bargained for. \n\n\n\nThis is the story of a teenager who confronts fear . . . Fair downtown. The National Park Service tried to keep them out\, but a very public media battle in 1991 led to their filming rights being reinstated. This compilation captures plenty of revelry\, hoosier patriotism\, and bratwurst. Go along for the ride with Pete\, Big Daddy\, Marty\, Marty’s Brother Mark\, Dumptruck Dave Perry\, Miss Cathy\, Black Jesus\, The Mad Russian\, and more. This presentation is curated and will be introduced by Jim Varagona\, archivist of The Pete Parisi Archives. \n\n\n\nThis event is not available for booking with the Club Arkadin pass. SUMMARY:Guy Maddin's "hilariously bizarre" CAREFUL (1992) -- new 4K restoration presented by Lost in the Arthouse
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLOST IN THE ARTHOUSE is a monthly series hosted by Arkadin co-owner Keith Watson that takes you to hidden corners of filmdom far from Hollywood. From must-see classics to obscurities waiting to be discovered\, these films stand at cinema’s bleeding edge. \n\n\n\n“Hilariously bizarre… like some lost masterpiece from a time-warped alternative dimension.” – The Washington Post \n\n\n\nArkadin favorite Guy Maddin’s early masterpiece takes place in a 19th-century Alpine village where the wary residents—adult\, child and animal—must speak softly and tread lightly lest they cause an avalanche. But sexual frenzies teem in this world of repression\, setting off incestuous love triangles and quadrangles with deadly consequences. Bathed in lurid\, luminescent tints\, CAREFUL is Maddin’s twisted ode to a largely forgotten film subgenre\, the German “Bergfilme” of the 1920s and ’30s\, which pitted man (and woman) against mountain in epic survivalist adventures. Merging these bygone conventions with Maddin’s own delirious obsessions results in a truly singular work that resembles a vintage melodrama from another planet. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. However\, we encourage researching titles to determine if a screening may contain content that could be upsetting to you. Please feel free to contact us for guidance on specific films. SUMMARY:John Waters' queer rebellion fairytale DESPERATE LIVING (1977) w/ vintage burlesque pre-show
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“I dare anyone not to take John Waters seriously after DESPERATE LIVING. He remains the visionary of camp and the den mother of the bizarre… This film is a triumphant example of the most vital bad taste in America.” – The Village Voice \n\n\n\nFollowing the unrepentant outrageousness of Pink Flamingos and Female Trouble\, director John Waters brought his notorious trash trilogy to a fittingly twisted close with this antifascist fairy tale. After hysterical housewife Peggy Gravel (Mink Stole) murders her husband with the help of her fed-up housekeeper (Jean Hill)\, the newfound “sisters in crime” escape to the bizarro shantytown of Mortville\, a depraved penal colony presided over by a despotic queen (Edith Massey) whose tyranny pushes her subjects to shocking revolt. Deviant cops\, death by dog food\, DIY surgery—Waters unleashes all this and more in an at once relentlessly warped and oddly moral vision of queer rebellion. \n\n\n\nIn honor of the Desperate Living’s star\, stripper Liz Renay\, this film is presented with a vintage burlesque pre-show\, starting at 6:30 pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:POINT BREAK (1991) w/ Red Hot Chili Peppers pre-show @ 6 pm
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A full-throttle action showcase that capitalises on its ‘90s flare and rides the wave right until the end.” – Loud and Clear Reviews \n\n\n\nKeanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze star in one of the greatest action movies of the 1990s! Point Break is a high-octane surf‑and‑sky thriller starring Reeves as rookie FBI agent Johnny Utah\, who goes undercover to infiltrate a gang of charismatic\, adrenaline‑junkie bank robbers led by the enigmatic Bodhi (Swayze). Between dawn surf sessions and gravity‑defying skydives\, Utah’s loyalty frays as he’s seduced by their outlaw code and the intoxicating freedom they chase. Director Kathryn Bigelow blends pulse‑pounding action with philosophical heat\, while the stars ignite the screen with kinetic homoerotic chemistry\, while Lori Petty\, John C. McGinley\, and Gary Busey chew the luscious SoCal scenery. A cult classic that still thrills\, Point Break is a raw\, stylish rush. \n\n\n\nIn honor of Anthony Kiedis’ small role\, we pay tribute to that equally iconic artifact of Gen X LA\, the Red Hot Chili Peppers\, with a pre-show at 6 pm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:ROSE OF NEVADA (2025) -- "a stupefying\, time-slipping ghost story"
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Like nothing else in modern movies. Feels unearthed from the deep\, dark recesses of the unconscious.” – Nick Schager\, The Daily Beast \n\n\n\n“A stupefying\, time-slipping ghost story” (The Film Stage) from Mark Jenkin\, the visionary director of Enys Men\, Rose of Nevada is a seasick sci-fi-inflected journey into the unknown. Or\, as critic Brian Tallerico put it\, “a mind-fuck” that “reminds you of the work of Mike Leigh and David Lynch at the same time.” \n\n\n\nThree decades ago\, the Rose of Nevada vanished at sea\, along with its crew. Now\, it has returned. In a remote fishing village\, its reappearance is embraced as an auspicious sign\, with the local citizens convinced the luck of their economically devastated community may turn\, if only the ship sails again. Joining the crew is Nick (George MacKay\, 1917)\, desperate to provide for his young family\, and Liam (Callum Turner\, Fantastic Beasts)\, a mysterious drifter eager to escape his past. After a successful voyage\, they return to harbor\, only to find that nothing is as they remember it. \n\n\n\nShot on 16mm film with a vintage Bolex H16\, a camera that only allows a maximum runtime of 28 seconds per take\, and edited with a haunting\, rhythmic pulse\, Rose of Nevada is\, like its characters\, adrift in time—ferociously contemporary yet profoundly haunted by the past. It’s also very weird\, very cool\, and like nothing else in contemporary cinema. \n\n\n\nWHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING…\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Brilliantly weird” \n\n\n\n\n“With Rose of Nevada\, Jenkin has further cemented himself as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary cinema… brilliantly weird and wholly intoxicating.” \n\n\n\n\n\nThe Upcoming \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Mind-fuck” \n\n\n\n\n“It’s not every day that you see a film that reminds you of the work of Mike Leigh and David Lynch at the same time. Still\, there aren’t a lot of movies like this mind-fuck of a flick… I won’t forget it.” \n\n\n\n\n\nRogerEbert.com \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Moving… unnerving… striking” \n\n\n\n\n“An experience as moving as it is unnerving\, and as the piercing screeching of iron rods announces the Rose of Nevada is to leave port once more\, it is we the audience there to wave a pained goodbye\, quietly stunned by the ethereal aura of Jenkin’s striking creation.” \n\n\n\n\n\n★ ★ ★ ★ ★ \n\n\n\nLittle White Lies \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:SERIAL MOM (1994) w/ Snapped pre-show @ 6 pm
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Uproariously funny\, maliciously malicious!” – Time Out \n\n\n\nThe Pope of Trash satirizes the dark heart of suburban normalcy in this wicked black comedy. Kathleen Turner plays wholesome suburban mom Beverly\, a picture-perfect homemaker whose fascination with serial killers transforms her into a Good Housekeeping murder queen who kills anyone and everyone who fails to live up to her standards. Featuring appearances by Ricki Lake\, Matthew Lillard\, Mink Stole\, Suzanne Somers\, Traci Lords and Patty Hearst\, SERIAL MOM gleefully skewers conformity\, suburbia\, and (perhaps most presciently) America’s obsession with true crime. Grab your own mama and bring her to the movies for a Mother’s Slay that’ll leave you in stitches…if Beverly doesn’t get you first! \n\n\n\nNeed more trashy murder content? Come out early for our Snapped pre-show starting at 6 pm—the wildly popular Oxygen true crime series that shows the true freaks live in the suburbs. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:John Waters' most personal film PECKER (1998)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A sassy\, irreverent movie about art\, fame\, culture shock\, and class consciousness” – Faith & Spirituality \n\n\n\nWho but John Waters would have given his sweetest and most personal film a name like Pecker? Edward Furlong stars as the eponymous teen\, an amateur photographer whose eye for the captivating oddness of everyday Baltimore life leads him to snap pictures of laundromats\, strip clubs\, and his shoplifting pal. But it’s all downhill once Pecker’s grainy\, out-of-focus shots are “discovered” by an influential NYC art dealer (Lilli Taylor). Soon\, Pecker has traded in his trusty Canon Caronet for an expensive Nikon N50\, and his friends and family start to feel the sting of fame’s bright lights. Co-starring Christina Ricci as Pecker’s obsessive girlfriend\, John Waters’ semi-autobiographical satire of art-world excess is a quirky\, hilarious delight that reveals the softer side of cinema’s most notorious shockmeister. But don’t get it twisted\, Pecker way be a touching ode to creative passion\, but it’s still a John Waters movie\, meaning this sweet-natured farce doubles as an R-rated romp\, packed with jokes about teabagging\, eating disorders\, and the Virgin Mary. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:END OF HISTORY (2025) + virtual Q&A with director Jacob Gregor
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Shot on a shoestring budget of around $5\,000 during a 10-day road trip to Deadhorse\, Alaska\, Jacob Gregor’s End of History has more to say about the bleak state of American culture than most multi-million dollar films. Following an isolated man’s journey\, whose mind is being deteriorated by media figures enacting more damage than society may realize\, Gregor crafts a feat of American slow cinema\, capturing the country in all its loneliness and degradation.” – The Film Stage \n\n\n\nA nameless man (Matt Calhoun) obsessed with motivational and right-wing “manosphere” culture goes on a hollow road trip of non-discovery in this hypnotic feature by director Jacob Gregor. A microbudget two-man production made on a road trip from Chicago to Alaska\, End of History is a bone-dry\, satirically bleak character study about a flattening culture and landscape. Playing like some cursed collaboration between James Benning and Lex Fridman\, Gregor’s film is at one hypnotically beautiful\, repulsively fascinating\, and shockingly funny—the rare film that truly understands our current moment of self-imposed isolation and desiccated masculinity. \n\n\n\nA virtual Q&A with director Jacob Gregor will immediately follow the film. \n\n\n\nThis screening is presented in cooperation with Means TV. \n\n\n\nWHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING…\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Jeanne Dielman for incels” \n\n\n\n\n“Jeanne Dielman for red-pilled incels (complimentary). SUMMARY:KURONEKO (1968) -- Folk Horror from Japan
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“One of the greatest of Japanese ghost stories\, a horror film of elemental drive\, social commentary\, feminist rage\, and visual grace.” – Sean Axmaker \n\n\n\nIn this poetic and atmospheric horror fable\, set in a village in war-torn medieval Japan\, a malevolent spirit has been ripping out the throats of itinerant samurai. When a military hero is sent to dispatch the unseen force\, he finds that he must struggle with his own personal demons as well. From Kaneto Shindo\, director of the terror classic Onibaba\, Kuroneko (Black Cat) is a spectacularly eerie twilight tale with a shocking feminist angle\, evoked through ghostly special effects and exquisite cinematography. \n\n\n\nEach month\, Arkadin presents a selection of FOLK HORROR AROUND THE WORLD\, creepy folktales from all corner of the globe to give you the Sunday scaries. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:John Waters' MULTIPLE MANIACS (1970)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Cheapo\, indie\, queer American cinema at its most adversarial and thrillingly vicious!” – Globe & Mail \n\n\n\nJohn Waters’ gloriously grotesque second feature is replete with all manner of depravity\, from robbery to murder to one of cinema’s most memorably blasphemous moments. Made on a shoestring budget in Waters’ native Baltimore\, with the filmmaker taking on nearly every technical task\, this gleeful mockery of the peace-and-love ethos of its era features the Cavalcade of Perversion\, a traveling show mounted by a troupe of misfits whose shocking proclivities are topped only by those of their leader: the glammer-than-glam\, larger-than-life Divine\, out for blood after discovering her lover’s affair. Starring members of Waters’ beloved regular cast\, the Dreamlanders (including David Lochary\, Mary Vivian Pearce\, Mink Stole\, Susan Lowe\, Edith Massey\, George Figgs\, and Cookie Mueller)\, Multiple Maniacs is an anarchic masterwork from an artist who has doggedly tested the limits of good taste for decades. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:PINK FLAMINGOS (1972) w/ Divine pre-show @ 6 pm
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Pink Flamingos is the sickest movie ever made. And one of the funniest!” – Newsweek \n\n\n\nOur Summer of John Waters comes to a close with this screening of his magnum opus: the midnight-movie smash that has been torturing audiences for over half a century\, the filthiest movie ever made\, and one of the most drop-dead comedies ever made… Pink Flamingos! Divine is iconic as the wanted criminal hiding out with her family of degenerates in a trailer outside Baltimore while reveling in her tabloid notoriety as the “Filthiest Person Alive.” When a pair of sociopaths (Mink Stole and David Lochary) with a habit of kidnapping women in order to impregnate them attempt to challenge her title\, Divine resolves to show them and the world the true meaning of the word “filth.” Incest\, cannibalism\, shrimping\, and film history’s most legendary gross-out ending—Waters and his merry band of Dreamlanders leave no taboo unsmashed in this gleefully subversive ode to outsiderhood\, in which camp spectacle and pitch-black satire are wielded in an all-out assault on respectability. You’ve been warned… \n\n\n\nCome out early for a tribute to John Waters’ greatest muse\, the one and only Divine\, with a pre-show starting at 6 pm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person.
