SUMMARY:FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH (1982)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“An all-time teen comedy classic!” -InSession Film \n\n\n\nThe wild world of adolescence has rarely been captured with as sharp an observational eye as in this refreshingly smart\, frank spin on the teen comedy by director Amy Heckerling (Clueless) and screenwriter Cameron Crowe (Almost Famous\, screening later this month!)—for each of whom it kicked off a hugely successful film career. Based on Crowe’s experiences going undercover as a student at a Southern California high school\, Fast Times at Ridgemont High blends hormone-fueled hilarity with an almost sociological examination of the 1980s teenage experience: the shopping mall hangouts\, fast-food jobs\, buzzkill teachers\, awkward dates\, and first experiences of love and sex. This pop-culture touchstone launched to stardom practically an entire cast of unknowns—including Jennifer Jason Leigh\, Phoebe Cates\, Judge Reinhold\, Forest Whitaker\, Anthony Edwards\, Eric Stoltz\, and Sean Penn as stoner icon Jeff Spicoli—and broke new ground in its raw yet sensitive depiction of the realities of coming of age. \n\n\n\nThis film is screening as part of Arkadin’s POOL PARTY series\, featuring movies that allow you to beat the summer heat (vicariously) by taking a dip in the cool waters of a swimming pool\, even as mystery\, murder and heartbreak lurk on the horizon… \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. However\, we encourage researching titles to determine if a screening may contain content that could be upsetting to you. Please feel free to contact us for guidance on specific films. Information about content can also be found on Common Sense Media\, IMDB and DoesTheDogDie.com\, as well as through general internet searches. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. We follow the MPAA rating guidelines for all other films.\n\n\n\nTickets can be purchased using the BUY TICKETS link above. Upon ordering\, you will receive a confirmation email from Square. Tickets may also be purchased on the day of the show at the concession counter.\n\n\n\nIf you’ve purchased advance tickets\, when you arrive\, please give your name at the concession counter to check in. \n\n\n\nTickets are returnable by sending a request through the contact form located on our About Us page prior to showtime.\n\n\n\nWhen an event is sold out\, we reserve the right to release open seats to customers on the waitlist. If you have a pre-purchased ticket and arrive late and there is no seat for you\, your ticket will be refunded.\n\n\n\nAll screenings are held in our indoor theater unless indicated otherwise in the event description above.\n\n\n\nPlease respect your fellow movie-goers by remaining quiet and refraining from using your cell phone throughout the screening.

SUMMARY:DROWNING BY NUMBERS w/ Peter Greenaway Shorts Pre-Show @ 6:30 pm
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A surreal\, satirical descent to the dark side of English gamesmanship. It is a brilliant black comedy.” – Maclean’s \n\n\n\nBefore his international breakthrough The Cook\, the Thief\, His Wife & Her Lover\, writer/director Peter Greenaway – “one of the most distinctive\, provocative talents of his generation” (The Guardian) – shocked and delighted audiences with this slyly deranged black comedy classic. Joan Plowright\, Juliet Stevenson\, and Joely Richardson star as three generations of women who murder their husbands in an unsettling salvo of sumptuous visuals\, macabre capers and numerical mischief. A film about mordant game-playing\, DROWNING BY NUMBERS is a game itself\, a kind of I Spy book in cinematic form\, with numbers 1 through 100 embedded in sequential order within the film’s lavish imagery and baroque dialogue. Blackly comic and fiercely feminist\, Greenaway’s “fascinating brain buster of very bad manners” (Entertainment Weekly)\, is a sumptuous feast for the senses lovingly restored in 4K by Severin Films. \n\n\n\nA pre-show featuring some of Peter Greenaway’s most mind-bending shorts precedes the film at 6:30 pm. SUMMARY:LOVE GOD (1997) presented by STL Video Society w/ Underground Cinema Pre-Show @ 6:30 pm
DESCRIPTION:SAINT LOUIS VIDEO SOCIETY digs deep in its extensive archives to present the weirdest\, wildest\, most incredible VHS obscurities. Always free\, always presented by Video Society archivist James Milam! \n\n\n\n“Dazzling\, frustrating and altogether original\, LOVE GOD isn’t afraid to jump-start a fresh new way of approaching cinema.” – Steven Puchalski\, Shock Cinema Magazine \n\n\n\nJuly’s SAINT LOUIS VIDEO SOCIETY PRESENTS selection\, LOVE GOD (1997)\, is a reality-bending experiment in digital filmmaking—from innovative and iconoclastic director Frank Grow. A film that’s not so much watched as experienced\, LOVE GOD’s “plot” centers around the emptying of mental hospitals in NYC\, while the head clinician searches for a slimy\, subterranean worm creature. Be warned\, it’s breakneck editing\, optical effects\, and wild puppetry may induce psychotic episodes. \n\n\n\nAfter only a handful of domestic\, film festival screenings\, LOVE GOD went far\, far underground\, with no physical media releases (not VHS\, DVD\, or Blu-Ray) in the US. Fortunately\, it was briefly released in English on Japanese VHS where its highly recommended for fans of psycho-splatter\, punk films like TETSUO: THE IRON MAN\, 964 PINOCCHIO\, and BURST CITY! \n\n\n\nThis screening is a RARE opportunity to be one of the few people to view this film theatrically\, so don’t miss out! Pre-Show at 6:30pm will feature Grow’s earlier 18min short\, RED & ROSY\, as well as a few underground cinema odds and ends. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. DESCRIPTION:THIS SCREENING IS SOLD OUT. WAITLIST OPENS 30 MIN. BEFORE SHOWTIME. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis film is presented by Silents\, Please! STL and will feature a special introduction from SPSTL’s Kate Stewart. \n\n\n\nIn his controversial masterpiece The Great Dictator\, Charlie Chaplin offers both a cutting caricature of Adolf Hitler and a sly tweaking of his own comic persona. Chaplin\, in his first pure talkie\, brings his sublime physicality to two roles: the cruel yet clownish “Tomainian” dictator and the kindly Jewish barber who is mistaken for him. Featuring Jack Oakie and Paulette Goddard in stellar supporting turns\, The Great Dictator\, boldly going after the fascist leader before the U.S.’s official entry into World War II\, is an audacious amalgam of politics and slapstick that culminates in Chaplin’s famously impassioned speech. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. SUMMARY:HIPS\, HIPS\, HOORAY! (1934) presented by Forbidden Hollywood
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nForbidden Hollywood is a monthly series hosted by STL film critic Katie Carter celebrating the Pre-Code films of the early 1930s\, when movies were wild\, racy\, transgressive\, and tons of fun. \n\n\n\nOne thing the 1934 pre-Code musical comedy Hips\, Hips\, Hooray! can’t be accused of is not delivering on its title: there are hips galore\, as evidenced by the bevy of scantily-clad female cast members who saunter across the screen\, and plenty of hooray in the film’s zany plot turns (it’s about rival cosmetics companies\, sort of)\, borderline deranged song-and-dance numbers\, and cornball sense of humor. Directed for RKO by Mark Sandrich (who went on to helm several of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers’ most famous vehicles) and starring Bert Wheeler and Robert Woolsey — a wildly popular comedy team in the early 1930s whose short-lived career means they haven’t sustained the legacy of some of their contemporaries — Hips\, Hips\, Hooray! showcases the duo’s brand of sexual comedy at its peak\, with comedienne Thelma Todd\, torch singer Ruth Etting\, and Wheeler and Woolsey regular Dorothy Lee providing ample support. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Steamy French Thriller Classic LA PISCINE (1969) w/ '60s French Pop Pre-Show @ 4:30 pm
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Involves four of the most outrageously photogenic actors to ever appear on screen… We sit and revel in the glamour of it all\, waiting for those hormonal and homicidal impulses to boil over – as\, of course\, they do.” – Senses of Cinema \n\n\n\nThe bright sun of the French Riviera is deceptive in this alluring work of slow-burn suspense from thriller specialist Jacques Deray and legendary screenwriter Jean-Claude Carrière. Formerly one of European cinema’s most iconic real-life couples\, Alain Delon and Romy Schneider reunited for this film\, bringing a palpable erotic chemistry to their performances as the bronzed and beautiful vacationers whose summer holiday on the Côte d’Azur is interrupted by the arrival of an old acquaintance (Maurice Ronet) and his eighteen-year-old daughter (Jane Birkin)—unleashing a gathering wave of sexual tension\, jealousy\, and sudden violence. A paragon of 1960s modernist cool thanks to effortlessly chic clothes and a loungy Michel Legrand score\, La piscine dives deep to reveal sinister undercurrents roiling beneath its seductive surfaces. \n\n\n\nIn honor of Legrand’s impossibly groovy score\, we’ll have a curated pre-show of ’60s French Pop music before the film\, starting at 4:30 pm. \n\n\n\nThis film is screening as part of Arkadin’s POOL PARTY series\, featuring movies that allow you to beat the summer heat (vicariously) by taking a dip in the cool waters of a swimming pool\, even as mystery\, murder and heartbreak lurk on the horizon… \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. Bring your own kiddie pool and we’ll fill it up. Tickets for this event always go fast so get ’em while they’re hot! \n\n\n\n“A must-see for its perfect mix of 90s charm\, genuine scares\, and timeless appeal” – JoBlo \n\n\n\nIf Scream deconstructed the slasher template\, I Know What You Did Last Summer showed you can still squeeze plenty of chills out of dogged adherence to the formula: Gather a bunch of pretty young actors and pick them off one-by-one with sadistic glee. And the actors don’t come much prettier than this absolute who’s-who of ’90s heartthrobs: Sarah Michelle Gellar\, Freddie Prinze Jr.\, Ryan Phillippe\, and of course Jennifer Love Hewitt. On July 4\, 1996\, four friends driving on an isolated road smash their car into a mysterious figure that seems to emerge from nowhere\, and they make a pact that will change their lives for the bloodier. SUMMARY:EASY RIDER (1969) presented by Strange Brew
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis film is presented by St. Louis’s long-running cult film series Strange Brew — winner of the 2025 A-List Award for Best Movie Night in St. Louis. Strange Brew programmer Jon Scorfina will provide an introduction. \n\n\n\nIn Easy Rider\, two bikers named Wyatt “Captain America” (Peter Fonda) & Billy (Dennis Hopper) head from California to New Orleansfor the Mardi Gras festival after scoring a large sum of money smuggling cocaine from Mexico. Their cross-country motorcycle quest finds them searching for the true meaning of freedom in the heart of America in the late 1960s. The film was written by Peter Fonda\, Dennis Hopper and Terry Southern\, and directed by Dennis Hopper. Easy Rider co-stars Jack Nicholson who was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award. Nicholson now credits his standout performance in the film for making him a bona fide movie star.  \n\n\n\nEasy Rider is largely responsible for ushering in the New Hollywood movement of the late ’60s through the ’70s in America. Independently produced with a paltry budget of $400\,000\, the film returned a staggering $60 million at the box office\, proving to the major Hollywood studios that low-budget films with young directors and counterculture ideals could yield a major return on investment. Now the film stands as an iconic generational touchstone as well as a snapshot into the late ’60s hippie movement\, motorcycle clubs\, drug culture and communal lifestyles. In 1998\, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally\, historically\, or aesthetically significant.” \n\n\n\n“Easy Rider is the single greatest example of counterculture cinema.” – Quentin Tarantino \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:$3 MYSTERY MOVIE: A Weird\, Wild\, Totally Offbeat Road Movie
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn the last Monday of every month\, Arkadin chooses an underseen deep cut to inflict upon an unwitting audience. Though the genre and tone may change\, the price always remains the same: three measly bucks. You can’t afford not to get yourself a ticket! \n\n\n\nOur June Mystery Movie is a highly unusual yet remarkably entertaining journey into the festering underbelly of the American dream. Imagine Pee-wee’s Big Adventure if it were directed by David Lynch and…well… maybe that’s not exactly what this is\, but it’s as close as one can come to describing this truly singular offbeat gem\, a forgotten mid-budget indie road movie with an incredibly stacked cast. Laden with absurdist humor\, surrealistic touches\, and a basic premise that must be seen to be believed\, this should-be cult classic will leave you wondering\, “Who exactly were they making this movie for?” The answer: weirdos like you and me.

SUMMARY:PONYBOI (2024) -- "a first for intersex representation onscreen"
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The thing you need to know about Ponyboi is that it’s so fucking fun. It’s true writer and star River Gallo has crafted a movie with intersex representation unlike anything we’ve seen before… But\, my God\, is this film FUN… Ponyboi is a queer cinema genre pastiche that understands a movie can be artful\, emotional\, and incredibly entertaining.” – Autostraddle \n\n\n\nArkadin is thrilled to present this brand-new release as part of its 2025 Pride program! Unfolding over the course of Valentine’s Day in New Jersey\, PONYBOI is a neon-drenched neo-noir set in the Motorola Razr-flipping days of the early ’00s New Jersey. River Gallo stars as Ponyboi\, a young intersex sex worker on the run from the mob after a drug deal goes sideways\, forcing him to confront his past. Co-written by Gallo\, who adapted their own short film\, PONYBOI is a deeply personal work for Gallo and and a groundbreaking work of intersex representation. Co-starring Dylan O’Brien as Ponyboi’s goofball pimp Vinny and Victoria Pedretti as Vinny’s pregnant girlfriend\, PONYBOI is a showcase for Gallo’s electrifying lead performance. But it’s also a thrilling genre exercise peppered with dark humor\, fantasy\, and a deeply felt sense of time and place. \n\n\n\n\n“A first for intersex representation onscreen” – Pajiba \n\n\n\n“A sexy\, sweaty fever dream” – The Hollywood Reporter \n\n\n\n“One hell of a wild\, intense ride through New Jersey’s underbelly” – Screen Zealots \n\n\n\n\nThis film is screening as part of Arkadin’s month-long celebration of PRIDE\, showcasing a wide array of queer classics\, cult favorites\, and underseen gems. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:NAKED KILLER (1992) -- cult classic action thriller about lesbian assassins who shoot men in the dick -- Friday Night WTF -- just $5!
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFriday Night WTF screenings are cheap\, weird\, and out of control! Cult trashterpieces\, so-bad-they’re-good crapfests\, movies that make you ask “What the hell am I watching?!” — we’ve got ’em all on Friday night. \n\n\n\nThey’re beautiful. They’re perfect. They’re to DIE for! A supercharged erotic action adventure combining elements of La Femme Nikita and Basic Instinct\, NAKED KILLER is one of the most infamous entries in one of the most notorious subcategories of cinema history\, Hong Kong Category III films! Deliciously sleazy yet surprisingly crowd-pleasing\, NAKED KILLER is a bloody\, scintillating thriller about a violent young woman named Kitty (Chingmy Yau) who is trained as a professional assassin by martial arts expert Sister Cindy (Wai Yiu)\, but affairs are complicated by Kitty’s relationship with impotent police detective Tinam (Simon Yan) and fellow female assassin Princess (Carrie Ng)\, who becomes erotically obsessed with her. Featuring all the dick stabbing and boob fondling you could possibly want\, NAKED KILLER is a true cult classic. \n\n\n\n“Not only has Naked Killer just become one of my favourite Hong Kong category III movies of all time\, but it’s now also one of my favourite movies in general ever!… I want at least ten more of these over-the-top sapphic action movies where women shoot men in the dick and then fondle each other afterwards.” – Lou (rhymes with wow!)\, Letterboxd \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:D.E.B.S. (2004) -- Sold Out!
DESCRIPTION:This screening is sold out. A waitlist will open in the lobby at 6:30 pm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A QUEER CULT CLASSIC… Are there any lesbian films where they just fall in love and have fun and don’t die at the end? The answer is D.E.B.S.” – Vulture \n\n\n\nFun\, frisky\, and fancy-free\, D.E.B.S. is the queer Charlie’s Angels spoof you need in your life! Initially dismissed by the critics as a misbegotten attempt to titillate a horny young male audience\, this piece of pure pop-art fizz is in fact a by-lesbians-for-lesbians delight that\, some 20 years after initial release\, has found its audience. Written and directed by Angela Robinson\, a rare Black queen woman working (however uneasily) within the Hollywood system\, D.E.B.S. is a high-spirited spy comedy about a group of women recruited by a secret test embedded within the SAT to a top-secret espionage school run by the federal government. Hilarious complications ensue when one of the newest recruits\, Amy (Sara Foster)\, falls in love with the agency’s highly alluring top villain Lucy (Jordana Brewster). A bona fide queer cult classic\, D.E.B.S. holds the worthy distinction of enjoying one of the highest ratings rises on cinephile social media site Letterboxd! The people have spoken: SEE D.E.B.S. NOW! \n\n\n\nThis film is screening as part of Arkadin’s month-long celebration of PRIDE\, showcasing a wide array of queer classics\, cult favorites\, and underseen gems. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Wong Kar-Wai's HAPPY TOGETHER (1997)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME MOVIE… Happy Together is a singular film\, and there will never be another queer film like it. But on the other hand\, when you consider the grander history of queer cinema\, and that we are lucky enough to live when it was made — and\, now\, see the ways in which it paved the road for other LGBTQ+ movies — there’s nothing more beautiful.” – The Asian Cut \n\n\n\nOne of the most searing romances of the 1990s\, Wong Kar Wai’s emotionally raw\, lushly stylized portrait of a relationship in breakdown casts Hong Kong superstars Tony Leung and Leslie Cheung as a couple traveling through Argentina and locked in a turbulent cycle of infatuation and destructive jealousy as they break up\, make up\, and fall apart again and again. Setting out to depict the dynamics of a queer relationship with empathy and complexity on the cusp of the 1997 handover of Hong Kong—when the country’s LGBT community suddenly faced an uncertain future—Wong crafts a feverish look at the life cycle of a love affair that’s by turns devastating and deliriously romantic. Shot by ace cinematographer Christopher Doyle in both luminous monochrome and luscious saturated color\, Happy Together is an intoxicating exploration of displacement and desire that swoons with the ache and exhilaration of love at its heart-tearing extremes. SUMMARY:All-drag queen musical space adventure VEGAS IN SPACE (1991) -- Friday Night WTF -- just $5!
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“See it and surrender yourself to the FABULOUSNESS!” – San Francisco Examiner \n\n\n\nWould you change your sex to save the entire universe? The fabulous Captain Tracy Daniels would! Disguised as show girls from Earth\, Daniels and her fierce space crew travel to the “babes-only world” of VEGAS IN SPACE. Once there\, they must Dance! Dance! Dance! to save the universe! This movie has more wigs than Wigstock\, more makeup than a Miss America pageant\, and all the fabulousness of The Adventures of Priscilla\, Queen of the Desert with way more actual drag queens! With tongue planted firmly in cheek and outfits that would make RuPaul jealous\, these cross-dressing divas are more fabulous than Julie Newmar\, and shine brighter than a supernova. One of the first truly queer midnight movies\, VEGAS IN SPACE was a labor of love nearly a decade in the making for co-writer/director Phillip R. Ford and writer Doris Fish\, a legendary Australian-American drag performer who tragically died of AIDS before the film’s release. VEGAS IN SPACE is a campy\, psychedelic\, and loving homage to 1950s and ‘60s B-movie sci-fi with an all-drag cast…filmed entirely in GLAMOURAMA! SUMMARY:Groundbreaking Drag Documentary THE QUEEN (1968) w/ intro by STL drag leaders!
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The mother of all drag documentaries…a small movie with a big heart!” – The New York Times \n\n\n\nMore than 40 years before RuPaul’s Drag Race\, this groundbreaking documentary about the 1967 Miss All-American Camp Beauty Pageant introduced audiences to the world of competitive drag. The film takes us backstage to kiki with the contestants as they rehearse\, throw shade\, and transform into their drag personas in the lead-up to the big event. Organized by LGBTQ icon and activist Flawless Sabrina\, the competition boasted a star-studded panel of judges including Andy Warhol\, Larry Rivers\, and Terry Southern. But perhaps most memorable is an epic diatribe calling out the pageant’s bias delivered by Crystal LaBeija\, who would go on to form the influential House of LaBeija\, heavily featured in Paris Is Burning (1990). A vibrant piece of queer history\, The Queen can now be seen in full resplendence thanks to a new restoration from the original camera negative. \n\n\n\nThis screening will be introduced by St. Louis drag leaders\, Devion Mornetts and Nick Fruend. \n\n\n\nDEVION MORNETTS has over 25 years in the field of female impersonation. She’s archived titles such as Miss Missouri USofA\, Miss Show Me States UsofA\, and Miss Springfield America. She has served as show director at some of the most iconic show bars in Missouri. She currently resides in St. Louis and is a Belle of The Bevo as well as the mentor and host for Royal Rumble\, a drag race style talent completion every third Thursday of the month at The Little Bevo. \n\n\n\nNICK FRUEND (a.k.a. Janessa Highland) has been performing for 15 years. Janessa has captured titles such as Miss Gay Missouri America where she went on to place 4th of 43 contestants at Miss Gay America in 2019. She is also a former National title holder reigning as Miss Cosmopolitan 2021. She is a former Miss St. Louis America\, Missouri All American Goddess and Miss Show Me States USofA. She now owns and operates The Little Bevo\, an event space which offers weekly drag shows and a monthly themed drag brunch in addition to hosting weddings and private events \n\n\n\nThis film is screening as part of Arkadin’s month-long celebration of PRIDE\, showcasing a wide array of queer classics\, cult favorites\, and underseen gems. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:DICKS: THE MUSICAL (2023) -- outdoor screening!
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Incredibly raunchy\, profane\, and so knowingly over the top…It’s truly inspired!” – Filmweek \n\n\n\nCrude\, outlandish\, and completely bonkers\, DICKS: THE MUSICAL tells the story of two self-obsessed businessmen who\, after discovering they’re long-lost identical twins (Josh Sharp and Aaron Jackson\, who look nothing alike) come together to plot the reunion of their eccentric divorced parents — all through musical numbers too profane and insane to recount here. Think of it as extremely Freaky Friday. With a cast that includes Megan Mullaly\, Nathan Lane\, Megan Thee Stallion\, and Bowen Yang\, DICKS is\, depending on who you ask\, a modern cult classic that channels the spirit of John Waters or the most offensive film ever made. You be the judge! \n\n\n\nThis film is screening outdoors in our backlot theater! SUMMARY:Queer Cinema Classic PINK NARCISSUS (1971) -- New 4K Restoration!
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Pink Narcissus transcends any niche descriptor that applies—queer\, camp\, avant-garde\, softcore\, documentary expressionism—and plunges into the deep end of consciousness-annihilating erotic desire.” – Slant Magazine \n\n\n\n“As beautiful and timeless as The Wizard of Oz” according to no less an authority on queer cinema than John Waters\, PINK NARCISSUS is a dream-like erotic fantasy about a handsome\, self-involved\, brooding young man who escapes the realities of his street life through a series of fantasies of incredible beauty. Obsessed with his own perfection\, he lives in a dreamworld of fantastic colors\, magnificent music\, elaborate costumes and strikingly handsome males. In a series of eye-popping sequences he imagines himself as a roman slave chosen by the emperor\, as a triumphant matador vanquishing the bull (who is really a black leather clad cyclist)\, an innocent wood nymph gamboling in the woods\, a diaphanously dressed harem boy in the tent of the sheik. He imagines his room as an exquisite jewel-encrusted retreat. But reality constantly intrudes through the depraved lives of the other street people\, through the harsh and ugly sounds outside and through the visits of his “johns”. His narcissistic enchantment with his own beauty and lifestyle is marred by one great fear – aging and loss of his youth and good looks. And\, in a final terrible glimpse of reality\, the jaded “john” becomes himself. \n\n\n\nLong credited only to “Anonymous\,” PINK NARCISSUS was only acknowledged by its true maker\, James Bidgood\, twenty years after its original release. SUMMARY:F.W. Murnau's THE LAST LAUGH (1924) presented by Silents\, Please! STL
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis film is presented by Silents\, Please! STL and will feature a special introduction from SPSTL’s Kate Stewart. \n\n\n\nOne of the crowning achievements of the German expressionist movement\, Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau’s The Last Laugh (Der letzte Mann) stars Emil Jannings stars as an aging doorman whose happiness crumbles when he is relieved of the duties and uniform which had for years been the foundation of his happiness and pride. Told almost completely without intertitles\, the film is noted for cinematographer Karl Freund’s sinuously moving camera. Through Jannings’s colossal performance The Last Laugh becomes more than the plight of a single doorman\, but a mournful dramatization of the frustration and anguish of the universal working class. \n\n\n\n“This 1924 silent masterpiece can pierce a hardened heart” – Josh Larsen \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:HOLY TRINITY (2019) w/ virtual Q&A with filmmaker Glamhag!
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A psychedelic candy colored acid trip of a movie\, Holy Trinity isn’t like anything else you’ve ever seen.” – Bay Area Reporter \n\n\n\nNamed one of IndieWire‘s “Queer Films Not to Be Missed\,” HOLY TRINITY is a funky\, day-glo exploration of sexuality and gender nonconformity and a perfect underseen gem of contemporary queer cinema for PRIDE! \n\n\n\nAfter an incident huffing her drug of choice—a mysterious aerosol can from the ubiquitous Glamhag brand— Trinity finds herself with a newfound gift for speaking to the dead. Confused and more than a little curious about this strange turn of events\, Trinity seeks the counsel of a colorful cast of characters\, from priests and drag queens to a witch and more\, all of whom teach her their unique spiritual practices. As she navigates life with this unexpected talent (and continues to huff that mysterious drug)\, Trinity is tossed between hallucination and reality more and more frequently\, developing a growing confidence in her strange new ability and learning to harness it in surprising ways. But with any great power comes great responsibility\, and soon Trinity has to decide what’s more important: her community and personal relationships or the allure of influence and fame. \n\n\n\nBoasting an inclusive cast (including Theo Germaine\, Sarah Sherman\, Alex Grelle & Dorian Electra)  and crew of diverse communities often neglected in mainstream cinema and approaching typically taboo subjects with verve and acceptance\, HOLY TRINITY is a sometimes raunchy\, always entertaining celebration of all that makes us different. In their feature film debut\, writer\, director and star Glamhag presents a vibrant and vivid portrait of friendship\, spirituality and community\, with more than a little glam sprinkled in along the way. \n\n\n\nAfter the film\, Glamhag will join us via Zoom for a virtual Q&A!
