SUMMARY:THE SWIMMER (1968) -- "A boozy suburban nightmare" w/ Mad Men pre-show @ 4:15 pm
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A BOOZY\, SUBURBAN NIGHTMARE…haunts viewers with memories that linger for years.” – Sean Burns\, Crooked Marquee \n\n\n\nBefore there was Mad Men\, there was THE SWIMMER. One of the quintessential American films of the 1960s\, THE SWIMMER is a sun-scorched and surreal suburban satire that boasts a hypnotic performance from the almighty Burt Lancaster as Ned Merrill\, the all-American man who one day decides to swim home to his Connecticut mansion via a series of pools in his neighborhood. Promoted with the tagline “When you talk about The Swimmer\, will you talk about yourself?” the film is at once a trip through the dark underbelly of suburban Americana\, a searing indictment of toxic masculinity\, and a journey deep into the self that anticipates the psychological self-exploration of the New Age era. Written and directed by husband-and-wife team Frank and Eleanor Perry (with some re-shoots by Sydney Pollack)\, this adaptation of John Cheever’s short story contains stunning expressionistic flourishes\, creating a true masterpiece of cinema — the perfect watch for a summer Sunday that will make you long for winter’s cold embrace. \n\n\n\nBefore the film\, we’ll be screening the Mad Men episode “The Summer Man\,” which takes direct inspiration from The Swimmer. The pre-show will begin at 4:15 pm. \n\n\n\nThis film is screening as part of Arkadin’s POOL PARTY series\, featuring movies that allow you to beat the summer heat (vicariously) by taking a dip in the cool waters of a swimming pool\, even as mystery\, murder and heartbreak lurk on the horizon… \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. However\, we encourage researching titles to determine if a screening may contain content that could be upsetting to you. Please feel free to contact us for guidance on specific films. Information about content can also be found on Common Sense Media\, IMDB and DoesTheDogDie.com\, as well as through general internet searches. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nWhen a screening is sold out\, we open a waitlist 30 minutes before showtime. You must physically come to the lobby to get your name on the waitlist. Seats are released as they become available. All remaining seats are released at showtime.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. We follow the MPAA rating guidelines for all other films.\n\n\n\nTickets can be purchased using the BUY TICKETS link above. Upon ordering\, you will receive a confirmation email from Square. Tickets may also be purchased on the day of the show at the concession counter.\n\n\n\nIf you’ve purchased advance tickets\, when you arrive\, please give your name at the concession counter to check in. \n\n\n\nTickets are returnable by sending a request through the contact form located on our About Us page prior to showtime.\n\n\n\nWhen an event is sold out\, we reserve the right to release open seats to customers on the waitlist. If you have a pre-purchased ticket and arrive late and there is no seat for you\, your ticket will be refunded.\n\n\n\nAll screenings are held in our indoor theater unless indicated otherwise in the event description above.\n\n\n\nPlease respect your fellow movie-goers by remaining quiet and refraining from using your cell phone throughout the screening.

SUMMARY:RUSHMORE (1998) w/ Music of Wes Anderson pre-show @ 4:30 pm -- SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:THIS SCREENING IS SOLD OUT. WAITLIST OPENS 30 MINUTES BEFORE SHOWTIME. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Arguably [Wes Anderson’s] most perfectly imagined film… sings with life and wit and strangeness” – Time Out \n\n\n\nThe dazzling sophomore film from Wes Anderson is equal parts coming-of-age story\, French New Wave homage\, and screwball comedy. Tenth grader Max Fischer (Jason Schwartzman) is Rushmore Academy’s most extracurricular student—and its least scholarly. He faces expulsion and enters into unlikely friendships with both a lovely first-grade teacher (Olivia Williams) and a melancholy self-made millionaire (Bill Murray\, in an award-winning performance). Set to a soundtrack of classic British Invasion tunes\, Rushmore defies categorization\, capturing the pain and exuberance of adolescence with wit\, emotional depth\, and cinematic panache. \n\n\n\nCome out before the film at 4:30 pm for a pre-show spotlighting the incredible music featured in the cinema of Wes Anderson\, including film clips and music videos.
