SUMMARY:HYSTERIA FEST: CABIN FEVER (Cannibal Mukbang + Slumber Party Massacre II)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHysteria Fest returns in the heart of winter with CABIN FEVER\, a full horror festival experience packed into a single evening. The night features two cult hit feature films\, opening short films to kick things off\, and a live Q&A with the director of Cannibal Mukbang. From modern internet-era obsession to neon-soaked ’80s slasher surrealism\, Cabin Fever celebrates horror at its strangest\, funniest\, and most fearless. \n\n\n\nCANNIBAL MUKBANGDirected by Aimee Kuge \n\n\n\nA darkly funny and unsettling horror-romance rooted in online culture\, CANNIBAL MUKBANG follows Mark\, a lonely young man who falls for Ash\, a charismatic woman who makes her living livestreaming mukbang videos — performances centered around eating massive amounts of food for an online audience. As their relationship deepens\, Mark begins to realize that Ash’s appetite goes far beyond food. Blending romance\, cannibal horror\, and sharp social commentary\, CANNIBAL MUKBANG explores intimacy\, consumption\, and the quiet horrors of being truly seen online. Both disturbing and strangely tender\, the film has become a standout on the genre festival circuit for its originality and confidence. \n\n\n\nFollowing the screening: a live Q&A with director Aimee Kuge. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSLUMPER PARTY MASSACRE IIDirected by Deborah Brock \n\n\n\nOne of the strangest and most beloved slasher sequels of the 1980s\, SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE II fully embraces dream logic\, pop-metal absurdity\, and cult energy. Survivor Courtney Bates is haunted by trauma-fueled visions that manifest as a leather-clad rockabilly killer wielding a guitar-drill hybrid. Part slasher\, part music video\, part surreal nightmare\, the film has earned its cult reputation through sheer audacity. No prior knowledge of the first film is required — Part II stands entirely on its own as a bold\, bizarre\, and unforgettable entry in ’80s horror. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Night Includes: \n\n\n\n\nA complete horror festival experience in one evening\n\n\n\nOpening short films\n\n\n\nTwo feature presentations\n\n\n\nA live filmmaker Q&A\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. SUMMARY:Barbara Stanwyck & Gary Cooper in BALL OF FIRE (1941)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A skewed\, screwball retelling of the classic Snow White story\, BALL OF FIRE ranks among the funniest American films ever made.” – American Film Institute \n\n\n\nA brilliant mix of whimsical comedy and sizzling romance\, Howard Waks’ BALL OF FIRE pairs Barbara Stanwyck as saucy nightclub performer Sugarpuss O’Shea with stick-in-the-mud grammarian Prof. Bertram Potts\, played by Gary Cooper. Sugarpuss is recruited to provide expertise on modern slang for the encyclopedia Potts is writing with seven other longbeard professors who all live together in a Manhattan mansion. The great Billy Wilder and writing partner Charless Brackett provided a quirky script modeled on Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs\, peppered with ridiculous hepcat slang like smackaroo\, boogie\, and yum-yum\, but the film belongs to Stanwyck\, whose vivacious bravado and ability to fill out a glittering sequined dress just right earned her an Academy Award nomination. \n\n\n\nEach week in February\, Arkadin presents SCREWBALL SUNDAYS\, $5 matinee screenings of some of the zaniest comedies from Hollywood’s Golden Age. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. However\, we encourage researching titles to determine if a screening may contain content that could be upsetting to you. Please feel free to contact us for guidance on specific films. Information about content can also be found on Common Sense Media\, IMDB and DoesTheDogDie.com\, as well as through general internet searches. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. SUMMARY:CRYSTAL HEART (1986) presented by St. Louis Video Society
DESCRIPTION:SAINT LOUIS VIDEO SOCIETY digs deep in its extensive archives to present the weirdest\, wildest\, most incredible VHS obscurities. Always free\, always presented by Video Society archivist James Milam! \n\n\n\nThis February\, SAINT LOUIS VIDEO SOCIETY PRESENTS an extremely unique love story\, CRYSTAL HEART (1986). It’s about a boy in an ornate\, hermetically-sealed living environment falling for a burgeoning pop star\, who he woos the only way he knows how—by writing HIT SONGS! That’s right\, just like John Travolta’s 1976 TV movie\, The Boy in the Plastic Bubble\, this film is inspired by the tragedies of “real Bubble Boys” David Vetter and Ted DeVita. Add to the mix Tawny Kitaen\, nearing the height of her “80s video vixen” era\, and you’ve got sensory overload. \n\n\n\nThis is a one night only screening of a film that never escaped the VHS format\, so don’t miss it on Monday\, February 9th at 7pm! We’ll also have a “bubble-centric” pre-show that starts at 6:30pm! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. SUMMARY:Charlie Chaplin's CITY LIGHTS (1931) presented by Silents\, Please! STL
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis film is presented by Silents\, Please! STL and will feature a special introduction from SPSTL’s Kate Stewart. \n\n\n\nCITY LIGHTS\, the most cherished film by Charlie Chaplin\, is also his ultimate Little Tramp chronicle. The writer-director-star achieved new levels of grace\, in both physical comedy and dramatic poignancy\, with this silent tale of a lovable vagrant falling for a young blind woman who sells flowers on the street (a magical Virginia Cherrill) and mistakes him for a millionaire. Though this Depression-era smash was made after the advent of sound\, Chaplin remained steadfast in his love for the expressive beauty of the pre-talkie form. The result was the epitome of his art and the crowning achievement of silent comedy. \n\n\n\n“If only one of Charles Chaplin’s films could be preserved\, CITY LIGHTS would come the closest to representing all the different notes of his genius. It contains the slapstick\, the pathos\, the pantomime\, the effortless physical coordination\, the melodrama\, the bawdiness\, the grace\, and\, of course\, the Little Tramp–the character said\, at one time\, to be the most famous image on earth.” – Roger Ebert \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. SUMMARY:Underrated Existential Romantic Comedy Adventure JOE VERSUS THE VOLCANO (1990)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Defiantly strange\, totally under-appreciated\, yet completely wonderful” – Combustible Celluloid \n\n\n\nBefore they became titans of Ephronian mass-market romantic comedy\, Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks were first paired up in an indescribably wonderful existential-rom-com-adventure from the writer of Moonstruck (also playing this month at Arkadin!). John Patrick Shanley’s JOE VERSUS THE VOLCANO tells the tale of an office drone diagnosed with a fatal disease who answers the call to serve as a human sacrifice for a remote Amazonian tribe but finds love along the way. The film was too odd\, too silly\, too brilliant\, too fanciful\, and too much the product of its writer-director’s personal frustrations and ruminations to hit with critics or audiences when it was originally released\, but it has rightfully developed an adoring cult following over the years appreciative of its razor-sharp satire on deadening corporate culture\, its profound exploration of mortality\, its unabashed romanticism\, and its Wes Anderson-like visual panache. At once hilarious and deeply philosophical\, JOE is a love story for anyone who’s ever worked a dead-end job\, dreaming of a different life. \n\n\n\nThis film is screening as part of Arkadin’s February 2026 series\, OFFBEAT ROMANCE\, featuring quirky tales of oddballs in love. SUMMARY:MOONSTRUCK (1987) -- Cagentine's Day!
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis Feb. 14\, Valentine’s Day is CAGENTINE’S DAY at Arkadin with a double dose of Nic Cage in love! Make the evening extra special and add on a budvase with floral arrangement from Flowers & Weeds for $20! Arrangement includes several stems and must be purchased in advance. One of the most enchanting romantic comedies of all time assembles a flawless ensemble cast for a tender and boisterously funny look at a multigenerational Italian American family in Brooklyn\, wrestling with the complexities of love and marriage at every stage of life. At the center of it all is a radiant Cher as Loretta\, an unlucky-in-love bookkeeper whose feelings about her engagement to the staid Johnny (Danny Aiello) are thrown into question after she meets his hot-blooded brother\, Ronny (Nicolas Cage)\, and one night at the opera changes everything. Winner of the Academy Awards for best actress (Cher)\, supporting actress (Olympia Dukakis)\, and original screenplay (by playwright John Patrick Shanley\, whose incredible directorial debut Joe Versus the Volcano plays earlier this month at Arkadin)\, this modern-day fairy tale is swept along on passionate Puccini melodies\, and directed by master storyteller Norman Jewison with the heightened emotion to match. \n\n\n\nCome out early for a pre-show devoted to the goddess Cher\, starting at 5 pm. \n\n\n\nPlease note\, tickets and flower add-ons must be added to cart separately. Tickets much be purchased to attend the screening. Purchasing a budvase only does not include tickets to the screening. Please check your cart before purchasing! \n\n\n\nThis film is screening as part of Arkadin’s February 2026 series\, OFFBEAT ROMANCE\, featuring quirky tales of oddballs in love. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:David Lynch's WILD AT HEART (1990) -- Cagentine's Day!
Arrangements vary in color and flower types. \n\n\n\n“Joltingly violent\, wickedly funny and rivetingly erotic” – Variety \n\n\n\nA love story as only David Lynch could tell it…full of snakeskin jackets\, speed metal\, Elvis imitations\, surreal Wizard of Oz references\, and (naturally) copious sex and violence. Nic Cage and Laura Dern are the ultimate Gen X lovers on the run as Sailor and Luna\, chased across the Mojave Desert by a series of increasingly creepy bounty hunters hired by Luna’s wicked-witch mother (Dern’s real-life mom Cheryl Ladd). Featuring memorable bit parts by Harry Dean Stanton\, Isabella Rossellini\, Crispin Glover\, Jack Nance\, Grace Zabriskie\, Sherilyn Fenn\, and Willem Dafoe in one of his most unsettling turns as the despicable Bobby Peru\, WILD AT HEART may be one of Lynch’s most unhinged works but it’s also his most swooningly romantic with Cage and Dern throwing themselves at each other in fits of violent passion. Baby\, this whole world’s wild at heart and weird on top. \n\n\n\nPlease note\, tickets and flower add-ons must be added to cart separately. Tickets much be purchased to attend the screening. SUMMARY:Technicolor Screwball Classic NOTHING SACRED (1937)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A marvelous black comedy full of wit and journalistic wisdom… just as funny today as when it was first filmed.” – TV Guide \n\n\n\nA legendary\, though lesser-seen\, screwball classic\, NOTHING SACRED is one of the few comedies from the era to be filmed in Technicolor. Comedy queen Carole Lombard—in the only color feature she made before her untimely death—and Frederic March face off in a brilliant media satire scripted by ex-newspaperman Ben Hecht and directed by genre maestro William Wellman. This surprisingly cynical black comedy stars March as a shady reporter who exploits the tragic (if dubious) story of a young woman (Lombard) dying of radium poisoning. Briskly paced and sharp as a tack\, NOTHING SACRED is an uproarious delight. SUMMARY:THE REFLECTING SKIN (1990) -- 𝔉𝔬𝔩𝔨 ℌ𝔬𝔯𝔯𝔬𝔯 𝔄𝔯𝔬𝔲𝔫𝔡 𝔗𝔥𝔢 𝔚𝔬𝔯𝔩𝔡
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Influenced…by Alice in Wonderland and the paintings of Andrew Wyeth\, THE REFLECTING SKIN is a tour de force of twisted gothic imagination\, its deadpan horrors only enhanced by the stunning beauty of Dick Pope’s photography.” – Sight & Sound \n\n\n\nAn instant cult classic when it premiered to sold out screenings at Cannes in 1990\, THE REFLECTING SKIN is a nightmarish vision of the American dream. Growing up in the 1950s in small-town Idaho\, 8-year-old Seth and his friends play a prank on the town recluse\, a mysterious English widow named Dolphin Blue (Tony winner Lindsay Duncan). After his father tells him stories of vampires\, Seth becomes convinced Dolphin is a vampire\, stealing the souls of his neighborhood friends one by one. When his older brother Cameron (Lord of the Rings‘ Viggo Mortensen\, in one of his first starring roles)\, returns home from military service in the Pacific and takes a liking to Dolphin\, Seth feels it’s up to him to save Cameron from his friends’ fate. With stunning visuals recalling Edward Hopper paintings and a surreal blend of horror and pitch-black humor\, THE REFLECTING SKIN is a “stunningly beautiful…Gothic masterpiece” (The Guardian). \n\n\n\nEach month\, Arkadin presents a selection of FOLK HORROR AROUND THE WORLD\, creepy folktales from all corner of the globe to give you the Sunday scaries. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:DINNER IN AMERICA (2020) w/ punk rock love songs pre-show
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“An authentic and awkward love story between two outcasts who find solace in each other. It subverts the MPDG trope by giving us a neurodivergent woman who isn’t there to fix anyone and a love story that feels messy and real\, rather than idealized. Dinner in America is a raw\, uncomfortable\, but ultimately heartfelt exploration of love\, rebellion\, and what it means to truly accept someone\, weirdness and all.” – 34th Street \n\n\n\nA DIY love letter to being authentically yourself\, finding your voice\, and being punk AF\, DINNER IN AMERICA may just be the quintessential love story for Generation Z. In a dreary Midwestern suburb\, aggro punk rocker Simon (Kyle Gallner) finds himself on the run again after a bout of arson and a close call with the police. A chance encounter with the spirited and socially awkward Patty (Emily Skeggs) provides him a place to lay low. As the two embark on a series of misadventures\, they begin to realize they have a lot more in common than they first expected. Skillfully directed by Adam Rehmeier and set to the beat of brilliant original songs\, DINNER IN AMERICA found an adoring audience on TikTok and Letterboxd\, whose users have propelled the film from Sundance also-ran to true-blue cult cinema phenomenon. The film’s rough-edged but empowering story of misfits in love has particularly resonated with neurodivergent audiences who see a bit of themselves in Patty\, an outcast who just wants to be accepted\, not changed. \n\n\n\nIn honor of the incredible original tunes in Dinner in America (including the earworm “Watermelon Song”)\, a Punk Rock Love Songs pre-show will precede the film\, starting at 6:30 pm. SUMMARY:WHAT'S UP\, DOC? (1972) w/ Barbra Streisand pre-show
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Literally reels of pure\, unadulterated and sustained laughs!” – Variety \n\n\n\nA joyous celebration of classic screwball farce\, Peter Bogdanovich’s WHAT’S UP\, DOC? updated the zany style of Hawks and Sturges for the New Hollywood ’70s. Barbra Streisand stars as the Bugs Bunny-esque Judy Maxwell who sets her sights on nebbishy musicologist Howard Bannister (Ryan O’Neal\, in bespectacled Cary Grant mode) and his precious igneous rocks. Too bad Howard already has a fiancée\, prim-and-proper Eunice (Madeline Kahn in her film debut). With hilarious complications\, including a daffy luggage mix-up plot\, quippy rapid-fire dialogue\, and one of the wildest chase sequences ever put to film\, DOC is worthy of comparison to the screwballs that inspired it and remains one of the funniest films of the 1970s. \n\n\n\nBefore the film\, we’ll be celebrating the magic of Babs with a Barbra Streisand pre-show beginning at 6 pm. SUMMARY:S&M rom-com SECRETARY (2002)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A small groundbreaking comedy\, a contemporary Cinderella story with a kink and a wink” – The New York Times \n\n\n\nMaggie Gyllenhaal\, in her first leading role\, faces off against James Spader in a deliciously kinky rom-com for all you little freaks out there. Lee Holloway (Gyllenhaal) is a young woman addicted to pain who finds her perfect foil when she takes a secretarial job with E. Edward Grey (Spader)\, where she learns that taking orders really turns her on\, a predilection that will be put to extensive use by her control-freak boss. Gllyenhaal brings a winking faux-naivete to her role\, while Spader\, as the original Mr. Grey\, embodies the sexy weirdo archetype par excellence. What might have seemed obnoxiously retrograde in the wrong hands is\, in writer-director Steven Shainberg’s hands\, wickedly funny\, supremely steamy\, and surprisingly sweet. SUMMARY:SOMETHING WILD (1986) w/ New Wave pre-show
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Joyfully offbeat… It’s vivaciously funny and sexy and spontaneous\, it’s full of hairpin turns that rivet and delight\, it’s a dizzyingly unbridled love comedy that turns darker and more dangerous — not abruptly but inexorably\, like a sunny day melting into night\, until you realize you’re watching a violently free-spirited thriller about the true stakes of passion.” – Variety \n\n\n\nThere’s never been a film quite like SOMETHING WILD. Directed by oddball auteur Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs\, Stop Making Sense)\, the story starts as a quirky rom-com and ends up as a surprisingly unhinged thriller while remaining deliriously offbeat throughout. It all starts outside a New York greasy spoon where quirky\, free-spirited Lulu (Melanie Griffith) confronts strait-laced yuppie banker Charlie (Jeff Daniels) for failing to pay his bill. It’s not long before the two find themselves on an interstate road trip and possibly falling for each other\, until Lulu’s menacing ex-husband (Ray Liotta) shows up. Featuring a killer ’80s soundtrack and electric performances from Daniels\, Griffith\, and Liotta\, SOMETHING WILD is both a kinky comic thriller and a radiantly off-kilter love story. \n\n\n\nThe movie is preceded at 4:30 pm by a New Wave pre-show paying tribute to Something Wild’s iconic soundtrack. SUMMARY:MAUVAIS SANG (a.k.a. Bad Blood\, 1986) presented by Lost in the Arthouse
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLOST IN THE ARTHOUSE is a monthly series hosted by Arkadin co-owner Keith Watson that takes you to hidden corners of filmdom far from Hollywood. From must-see classics to obscurities waiting to be discovered\, these films stand at cinema’s bleeding edge. \n\n\n\n“A masterpiece of ecstatic cinema from 1986… With an emotional world akin to that of the New Wave masters\, a visual vocabulary that pays tribute to their later works\, and a visionary sensibility that owes much to Jean Cocteau’s fantasies\, Carax suggests the burden of young genius in a world of mighty patriarchs who aren’t budging.” – The New Yorker \n\n\n\nWith this giddily romantic\, exquisitely stylized sophomore feature\, Leos Carax cemented his status as one of the boldest filmmakers of his generation. In a world ravaged by STBO\, a sexually transmitted disease only acquired by people having sex without any emotion\, a rebellious young man (Denis Lavant) is recruited by a veteran criminal (Michel Piccoli) to steal the antidote. He soon falls dangerously in love with his new associate’s lover (Juliette Binoche)—an infatuation that catapults him out into the street to run to the pounding beat of David Bowie’s “Modern Love” in one of the most exhilarating moments of cinema (so powerful\, it was cribbed note for note by Noah Baumbach in Frances Ha). In what may well be the defining film of 1980s French film\, Leos Carax revived the the spirit of early Godard\, creating a bold and beautiful gangster film-cum-romance that serves as a vibrant love letter to the possibilities of cinema. SUMMARY:Cary Grant & Irene Dunne in THE AWFUL TRUTH (1937)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The Awful Truth is one of the great American comedies\, but it’s also a mighty and mysterious film about relationships\, which are composed of nesting negotiations—performances—that leave scars.” – Slant Magazine \n\n\n\nIn this Oscar-winning farce\, Cary Grant (in the role that first defined the Cary Grant persona) and Irene Dunne exude charm\, cunning\, and artless affection as an urbane couple who\, fed up with each other’s infidelities\, resolve to file for divorce. But try as they might to move on\, the mischievous Jerry can’t help meddling in Lucy’s ill-matched engagement to a corn-fed Oklahoma businessman (Ralph Bellamy)\, and a mortified Lucy begins to realize that she may be saying goodbye to the only dance partner capable of following her lead. Directed by the versatile Leo McCarey\, a master of improvisation and slapstick as well as a keen and sympathetic observer of human folly\, THE AWFUL TRUTH is a warm but unsparing comedy about two people whose flaws only make them more irresistible. SUMMARY:Cult Classic Sci-Fi Indie THE BROTHER FROM ANOTHER PLANET (1984)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“ONE OF THE BEST SCI-FI MOVIES OF ALL TIME! A gentle-hearted satire on race and the immigrant experience…science fiction at its most succinct and humane.” – Slant Magazine \n\n\n\nBlending sci‑fi\, social satire\, and street‑level realism into an indie cult classic\, THE BROTHER FROM ANOTHER PLANET takes a sly look at social divisions through the eyes of a mute\, three-toed extraterrestrial slave who just so happens to look like an African-American man. Written and directed by indie legend John Sayles (Lone Star\, Matewan)\, the film wittily exposes the absurdities of race\, power\, and cultural identification as The Brother finds community in Harlem while hiding out from international bounty hunters who seek to take him back to his home planet. It’s a quirky\, political\, and unmistakably human riff on the classic immigrant’s story brought to life by Joe Morton’s soulful yet wordless lead performance. \n\n\n\nOTHER WORLDS brings you to strange new realms through science fiction and fantasy. Featuring classics\, hidden gems\, and cult favorites\, this series offers a mind-bending retreat from our mundane reality. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:$3 MONDAY MYSTERY MOVIE: Bizarre Animated Lesbian Sci-Fi Musical
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn the last Monday of every month\, Arkadin chooses an underseen deep cut to inflict upon an unwitting audience. Though the genre and tone may change\, the price always remains the same: three measly bucks. You can’t afford not to get yourself a ticket! \n\n\n\nImagine an animated\, futuristic\, overtly queer version of Phantom of the Paradise and you’re maybe a third of the way to comprehending the sheer audacious WTFery of this month’s mystery selection. Little known and barely seen\, this obscure little gem features a shockingly high-profile voice cast — none of whom surely understood what exactly they were getting into. Sometimes cheesy\, other times mind-bendingly psychedelic\, this tripped-out dreamscape features some genuinely fascinating ideas and mind-blowing images alongside plenty of corny cliches and goofball moments. But there’s an endearing sincerity and genuine inventiveness that makes this film a true must-see for lovers of cinema’s stranger side. SUMMARY:SUBMARINE (2010) w/ Richard Ayoade pre-show
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A mesmerising\, outlandish and warm-hearted indie comedy… In simple terms\, it’s 97 minutes of absolute cinematic joy.” – HeyUGuys \n\n\n\nDirected by beloved British comedy multi-hyphenate Richard Ayoade\, SUBMARINE is deadpan\, stylish\, and moving. A deeply lived-in coming‑of‑age comedy adapted from Joe Dunthorpe’s novel about a Welsh teen determined to control the chaos of his life—his love life\, his parents’ marriage\, and his own overactive imagination—the film stars Craig Roberts as shy\, awkward Oliver Tate who sets out to lose his virginity while also stopping his mother (Sally Hawkins) from drifting toward a mystical ex-lover (Paddy Considine). Blending dry humor\, Wes Anderson-like visuals\, and a dreamy soundtrack by Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner\, SUBMARINE is a sharply observed portrait of adolescent delusion and longing that’s witty\, melancholic\, and irresistibly offbeat. \n\n\n\nBefore the film\, come out for a pre-show dedicated to actor-comedian-author-panel-show-legend Richard Ayoade\, starting at 6:30 pm. SUMMARY:ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND (2004) w/ Michel Gondry music videos pre-show
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Among the best love stories of the 21st century…impossible to forget” – The Guardian \n\n\n\nWidely (and rightfully) considered one of the best American films of the 21st century\, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND is a wildly inventive and deeply soulful exploration of love\, loss\, and memory. Fully liberated from the shackles of mugging comedy\, Jim Carrey stars as sad sack Joel\, who is stunned to discover that his girlfriend Clementine (Kate Winslet\, in perhaps her finest performance) has had their tumultuous relationship erased from her mind. Joel decides to get the same treatment\, but as his memories of Clementine begin to fade\, Joel suddenly realizes how much he still loves her. Charlie Kaufman’s brilliant\, heartbreaking\, and mind-altering script is brought to weird and wonderful life through the innovative in-camera special effects of director Michel Gondry. ETERNAL SUNSHINE may be a film about forgetting\, but once experienced\, it sticks in your heart and mind forever. \n\n\n\nBefore the film\, we’ll be showcasing some of Michel Gondry’s equally innovative music video work with a pre-show starting at 6 pm. The two meet-cute at an art exhibition before spending a whirlwind day together\, sharing Before Sunrise-style banter against the bustling environs of South London before setting off on a mission to recover Yas’s copy of A Tribe Called Quest’s The Low End Theory from her ex’s flat. SUMMARY:Cecil B. DeMille's wild Art Deco sex comedy musical disaster film MADAME SATAN (1930)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“[B]ombastically eclectic…orgiastic…unbelievably camp… In short\, it’s absolutely bizarre.” – Screen Slate \n\n\n\nBetter known for his serious-minded historical epics\, Cecil B. DeMille made his first and only foray into the musical genre with this bizarre pre-code sex comedy/romance/disaster movie/Art-Deco rhapsody for MGM. Wealthy but frigid socialite Angela Brooks (Kay Johnson) is dismayed to discover that her husband Bob (Reginald Denny) has seemingly lost interest in their icy marriage in favor of a hot-blooded young showgirl named Trixie (Lillian Roth). To win him back and prove her feminine wiles\, Angela adopts the persona of “Madam Satan\,” an alluring masked temptress—in a fabulous costume—who puts her skills to the test at an elaborate masquerade ball held aboard a zeppelin floating above Central Park. Angela succeeds in wowing the room\, but the doomed Deco dirigible is struck by lightning leading to a fiery crash that eerily anticipates the Hindenberg disaster by seven years. The film’s spectacular central set piece features an unforgettable dance sequence complete with the Deco-tastic “Spirit of Electricity” as danced by Theodore Kosloff\, a veteran of the Ballets Russes — alongside the sublime production design of Cedric Gibbons and Mitchell Leisen (heavily inspired by Parisian Art Deco) and sensational costumes by Gilbert Adrian. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis film is presented by St. Louis’s long-running cult film series Strange Brew — winner of the 2025 A-List Award for Best Movie Night in St. Louis. Strange Brew programmer Jon Scorfina will provide an introduction. \n\n\n\nA forensic scientist named Brenda (Roxanne Hart) investigates a string of mysterious beheadings in New York City and believes a reclusive antique dealer with the alias Russell Nash (Christopher Lambert) might be the prime suspect in the cult fantasy HIGHLANDER. As she gets closer to Russell\, he reveals the unbelievable story that he is truly Connor MacLeod\, an immortal born in the Scottish Highlands in the 16th century who is in a multi-century battle with other immortals who must be beheaded until only one remains. Sean Connery plays Ramirez\, Connor’s mentor and fellow immortal friend\, and Clancy Brown plays The Kurgan\, a 16th-century sadistic barbarian turned modern NYC street punk\, who has challenged Connor for the ultimate prize: to be the final immortal! \n\n\n\nDirector Russell Mulcahy\, a popular music video director\, cast lead actor Christopher Lambert after finding his picture in a magazine — not knowing the actor did not speak English and would have to learn the language during the brief period between landing the role and filming began. The film features a beautiful orchestral score by composer Michael Kamen\, as well as multiple original songs by rock megastars Queen including “Princes of the Universe” and “Who Wants to Live Forever.”  \n\n\n\nHIGHLANDER was an initial critical and box-office bomb during its theatrical release in 1986\, but found international success through its home video release and has since gone on to develop a devoted cult following. The original film spawned three live-action sequels\, an anime movie\, multiple television spin-offs\, and a remake currently in the works starring Henry Cavill\, but fans know\, “There Can Be Only One!” \n\n\n\nCome out early to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Highlander with a special Queen music video preshow starting at 6:30 pm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person.
