SUMMARY:LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (1986) -- 40th anniversary screening w/ killer plants pre-show
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Funny\, fun\, catchy\, and well worth its reputation” – Cinema Crazed \n\n\n\nFour decades on\, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS remains one of the great cult comedy musicals\, a riotous camp\, horror\, and some damn fine tunes. An adaptation of an Off-Broadway musical inspired by Roger Corman’s 1960 dark comedy film\, LITTLE SHOP turned the scrappy stage hit into a full-blown pop spectacle\, starring Rick Moranis as meek florist’s assistant Seymour\, whose life changes when he discovers Audrey II\, a smooth‑talking\, soul‑singing plant with a taste for human blood. Ellen Greene is adorable as Seymour’s mousy co-worker Audrey and Levi Stubbs turns in an all-time great villain performance as the voice of the killer plant\, while a host of comedy ringers—Jim Belushi! John Candy! Christopher Guest! Bill Murray! Steve Martin!—turn in memorable cameos. LITTLE SHOP’s blend of practical effects wizardry and jet‑black humor remain utterly irresistible. \n\n\n\nCome out before the film for a free-ranging pre-show featuring some of the scariest and funniest killer plants in cinema history\, starting at 6 pm. \n\n\n\nThis screening is part of Arkadin’s April 2026 series\, HOW DOES YOUR GARDEN GROW?—featuring botanical wonders\, homicidal flora\, and secret gardens for you to make your escape. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. However\, we encourage researching titles to determine if a screening may contain content that could be upsetting to you. Please feel free to contact us for guidance on specific films. Information about content can also be found on Common Sense Media\, IMDB and DoesTheDogDie.com\, as well as through general internet searches. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. SUMMARY:A CHINESE GHOST STORY (1987) -- Friday Night WTF!
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFriday Night WTF screenings are cheap\, weird\, and out of control! Cult trashterpieces\, so-bad-they’re-good crapfests\, movies that make you ask “What the hell am I watching?!” — we’ve got ’em all on Friday night. \n\n\n\n“Pure madness! The 1987 cult classic is wonderfully wild.” – Counter Arts \n\n\n\nThe most hyperactive ghost story this side of Evil Dead II\, A CHINESE GHOST STORY smashes together slapstick chaos\, wire‑fu acrobatics\, rubbery monsters\, and delirious dream logic. Produced by legendary Hong Kong filmmaker Tsui Hark\, the film is a supernatural carnival ride that never slows down\, turning on a dime from swoony love story to shrieking horror-comedy to wuxia showdown. Packed with tree demons\, hopping corpses\, killer wolves\, and decapitated-head soup\, GHOST STORY employs glorious handmade effects and loopy Looney Tunes physics to create one of the wildest\, wackiest and most wonderfully bewildering films you’ll ever have the pleasure of gaping your mouth at. SUMMARY:THE DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS (1981) -- the entire classic miniseries about flesh-eating plants
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Remains one of the best global disasters seen on the screen\, haunting and frequently terrifying. Its influence remains strong.” – The EOFFTV Review \n\n\n\nThough adapted before and after\, John Wyndham’s classic post-apocalyptic novel THE DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS received its definitive treatment in 1981 when the BBC transformed the text into a gripping 6-part miniseries that terrified audiences with its harrowing tale of a world stricken by mass blindness and overrun by triffids\, ambulatory flesh-eating plants. Perfectly balancing its enthralling storytelling with a bit of sci-fi cheese\, the series asks serious questions about morality\, our responsibility to others\, and the foundations of human civilization — all while the characters dodge the venomous\, harpoon-like stingers of the triffids. A major influence on 28 Days Later\, TRIFFIDS is intelligent\, unnerving\, and a lot of fun. \n\n\n\nArkadin presents all six episodes\, running about 150 minutes\, with an intermission. \n\n\n\nThis screening is part of Arkadin’s April 2026 series\, HOW DOES YOUR GARDEN GROW?—featuring botanical wonders\, homicidal flora\, and secret gardens for you to make your escape. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. SUMMARY:TOUCH ME (2026) -- “The tentacled erotic horror comedy you didn't know you needed”
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The tentacled erotic horror comedy you didn’t know you needed…part absurdist\, gross-out romp\, part erotic thriller\, and part lo-fi sci-fi… It’s rare that something this confidently unique finds its way out into the world\, but TOUCH ME is destined to find a dedicated fan base who love eroticism and goo.” – ScreenAnarchy \n\n\n\nTwo codependent best friends become addicted to the heroin-like touch of an alien narcissist who may or may not be trying to take over the world in Addison Heimann’s weird\, wild\, horny\, hideous\, goop-slathered slab of midnight-movie madness\, TOUCH ME. Starring Olivia Taylor Dudley as rudderless single gal Joey and Jordan Gavaris as her lazy stoner roommate Craig\, the film finds the duo taking refuge from their shit-stenched apartment in the sprawling compound of Joey’s ex\, Brian (Lou Taylor Pucci)\, who just so happens to be an alien whose physical touch leaves humans in a heroin-like state of liberating ecstasy that drains all worry from their bodies. Filled to the brim with offbeat comedy\, surreal eroticism\, gloopy practical-effects horror\, and an atmosphere of woozy cosmic dread\, TOUCH ME is “31 flavors of weird” (The Pitch). \n\n\n\n\n\nWHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING…\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Do you like Gregg Araki? Cthulhu? Hentai? Then this film is one-stop shopping. It’s a genre-spanning freak buffet about\, among other things\, unhealthy attachment styles\, friendship\, trauma recovery\, unhealthy coping mechanisms and…um…tentacle sex.” – The Pitch \n\n\n\n“This fun\, quirky film uses its absurdity to explore its more serious subjects without distraction. Amidst the laughter and the tentacle-driven moments onscreen is something heartfelt and a little broken\, making this a surprisingly deep experience.” – ButWhyTho \n\n\n\n\n\n“An ambitious\, sexually charged horror satire…Touch Me is the kind of film you kind of question if you should be watching but can’t look away once it locks you in.” – That Hashtag Show“For those who tune in to the freaky\, goofy\, and sincere frequencies there’s a specific genius running through the work that’s nigh on irresistible.” – AWFJ \n\n\n\n“Austin Powers 2 on acid” – Albert Birney\, director of OBEX \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:"Wicked\, witchy folk freak horror" ENYS MEN (2022) — 𝔉𝔬𝔩𝔨 ℌ𝔬𝔯𝔯𝔬𝔯 𝔄𝔯𝔬𝔲𝔫𝔡 𝔗𝔥𝔢 𝔚𝔬𝔯𝔩𝔡
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A wicked\, witchy folk freak horror… the witchy atmosphere Jenkin conjures is spine-tinglingly devilish\, the poetic manifestation of the subject’s deep grief\, ever-ambiguous and frosty\, taking on the aching melancholy of loss. The present trend of elevated horror be damned: this is how you do it.” – The Playlist \n\n\n\nENYS MEN is a mind-bending Cornish folk horror set in 1973 that unfolds on an uninhabited island off the Cornish coast. A wildlife volunteer’s (Mary Woodvine) daily observations of a rare flower take a dark turn into the strange and metaphysical as she descends into a terrifying madness that challenges her grip on reality and pushes her into a living nightmare. Is the landscape not only alive but sentient? Shot by Jenkin on grainy 16mm color film stock and with post-synched sound\, the form feels both innovative and authentic to the period. Filmed on location around the disused tin mines of West Penwith\, it is also an ode to Cornwall’s rich folklore and natural beauty. Evoking the feeling of discovering a reel of never-before-seen celluloid unspooling in a haunted movie palace\, this provocative and masterful vision of horror asserts Mark Jenkin as one of the U.K.’s most exciting and singular filmmakers. \n\n\n\nEach month\, Arkadin presents a selection of FOLK HORROR AROUND THE WORLD\, creepy folktales from all corner of the globe to give you the Sunday scaries. SUMMARY:Anna Faris stars in Gregg Araki's hilarious cult comedy SMILEY FACE (2007)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Give Anna Faris a retroactive Oscar for [this] cult classic\, a masterful and still under-appreciated entry to the stoner comedy canon…a hilarious all-in-one-day misadventure that rivals After Hours\, Run Lola Run\, and Uncut Gems in terms of its sheer narrative escalation.” – Nylon \n\n\n\nCult queer filmmaker Gregg Araki (The Doom Generation\, Nowhere) and should-be-one-of-Hollywood’s-biggest-stars Anna Faris take you on the ultimate trip in our almost-4/20 screening of the contemporary cult classic SMILEY FACE. Delivering one of the truly great comedic performances of the 21st century\, Faris stars as slacker actress Jane\, whose bad day keeps getting more and more outrageous after she treats herself to a batch of cupcakes left unattended by her psycho roommate that prove not as innocent as they appear. What ensues is an epic series of misadventures\, a delirious idiot odyssey in which everyone from John Krasinski to Jane Lynch to Brian Posehn to Harold himself John Cho pops up. Funnier than Half Baked\, way cooler than Harold and Kumar\, and far more exciting than Pineapple Express\, SMILEY FACE is the definitive stoner comedy of the modern era. Whether you partake or not\, SMILEY FACE is guaranteed to give you the giggles. SUMMARY:Underground queer comedy SCARECROW IN A GARDEN OF CUCUMBERS (1972) starring trans icon Holly Woodlawn
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A fascinating time capsule of queer art and culture in the early 1970s. It fits right in with John Waters’ filmography and Rocky Horror.” – Dirty Movies \n\n\n\nTrans icon (and Warhol superstar) Holly Woodlawn plays Eve Harrington\, a small-town girl from Kansas who tries to make it big — or at least find a roommate — in New York in this long-lost madcap movie musical extravaganza from filmmaker Robert J. Kaplan. Along the way she’ll get tangled up with everyone from wrestlers to crunchy granola lesbians on her way-too-relevant quest to find secure housing. \n\n\n\nOne of the very first films to be built around a trans actor\, Scarecrow in a Garden of Cucumbers is a comedic tour-de-force for Woodlawn\, then fresh off of making Trash and Women in Revolt! for Paul Morrissey. With a memorable supporting performance from fellow Warhol Superstar Tally Brown as Mary Poppins and voice cameos from the likes of Bette Midler and Lily Tomlin\, this should’ve become a huge midnight movie sensation but instead faded into obscurity and has sat unseen for the past 50 years. Its recent rediscovery and restoration by the Academy Film Archive is cause for celebration — and a timely reminder that trans people have always been on the screen. \n\n\n\nRestoration courtesy of the Academy Film Archive and the American Genre Film Archive. SUMMARY:Sofia Coppola's MARIE ANTOINETTE (2006) -- 20th anniversary screening w/ alternative '80s music videos pre-show
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A decadent delight! Glorified opulence at its finest with a cotton-candy colored sugar coating.” – Behind the Lens \n\n\n\nWritten and directed by the great Sofia Coppola\, MARIE ANTOINETTE is an electrifying yet intimate re-telling of the turbulent life of history’s favorite villainess. Kirsten Dunst portrays the ill-fated child princess who married France’s young and indifferent King Louis XVI (Jason Schwartzman). Feeling isolated amidst the prim-and-perfect gardens of Versailles\, surrounded by a royal court rife with scandal and intrigue\, Marie Antoinette defied both royalty and commoner by embracing decadence. A commercial and critical disappointment when it was first released\, Coppola’s satirical yet empathetic take on rich-kid ennui has aged like a fine Piper-Heidsieck over the past two decades and is now rightfully embraced for its vibrant fashion\, post-punk soundtrack\, and too-cool-for-school sensibility. If its reliability as a historical portrayal of pre-Revolutionary France may be somewhat dubious\, MARIE ANTOINETTE’s ability to capture the feel of mid-’00s indie sleaze within the confines of a costume drama remains unparalleled. \n\n\n\nIn honor of the film’s iconic soundtrack\, come out early for an alternative ’80s music videos pre-show\, starting at 6 pm. SUMMARY:"The most dangerous movie ever made" ROAR (1981) -- Friday Night WTF!
\n\n\n\nNo animals were harmed in the making of this film. 70 cast and crew members were. \n\n\n\n11 years\, many millions and many real-life Apocalypse Now-style tragedies in the making\, this maniacal\, well-meaning fever dream/career-derailing utopian social experiment/animal-attack crucible stars The Birds star Tippi Hedren and her husband Noel Marshall (exec producer of The Exorcist)\, their real children (including a 14-year-old Melanie Griffith)\, and over 100 unpredictable lions\, tigers\, leopards and cheetahs from their own private collection in what’s justly been labeled “the most dangerous film ever made.” \n\n\n\nAn unprecedented—and wholly unpredictable—action-adventure\, ROAR follows wildlife preservationist Hank\, who lives quasi-harmoniously alongside a menagerie of untamed animals on a preservation in the African plains. When his wife and children arrive for a visit\, a long-brewing battle for dominance between the lions erupts and threatens their very lives. \n\n\n\nROAR’s loose “plot” is but a paper-thin excuse to shove rampaging beasts into the frame at all times; these cool cats are the guiding force of the film’s frequently shocking moments. Are the family’s performances staged\, or is that true fear in their eyes? Either way\, there has never been anything like ROAR\, and there likely will never be again! \n\n\n\n“It’s like Walt Disney went insane and shot a snuff version of Swiss Family Robinson.” – Hitfix \n\n\n\n“Like watching a live-action Lion King as Mufasa holds a switchblade to your throat.” – Complex \n\n\n\n“100% insane\, unbelievable.” – Screen Crush \n\n\n\n“Just watching it feels dangerous.” – Movies.com \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Still holds up because it knows exactly what it is: a smart\, funny showcase for Sandra Bullock’s charisma\, supported by a delightful ensemble and Michael Caine’s scene-stealing turn.” – Solzy at the Movies \n\n\n\n\n“Describe your perfect date.” — Stan Fields (William Shatner)\n\n\n\n“I’d have to say April 25th. SUMMARY:'70s sci-fi classic SILENT RUNNING (1972)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“One of the greatest movies ever made. So often overlooked in the canon of great science-fiction films. To this day\, it remains one of the most moving films I’ve ever seen.” – Mark Kermode \n\n\n\nIn 1968\, visual effects pioneer Douglas Trumbull designed the ground-breaking special photographic effects of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Four years later\, he stamped his own indelible mark on the science fiction genre with his mesmerizing directorial debut\, SILENT RUNNING. In the not-so-distant future\, Earth is barren of all flora and fauna\, with what remains of the planet’s former ecosystems preserved aboard a fleet of greenhouses orbiting in space. When the crews are ordered to destroy the remaining specimens\, one botanist\, Freeman Lowell (Bruce Dern)\, rebels and flees towards Saturn in a desperate bid to preserve his own little piece of Earth that was\, accompanied only by the ship’s three adorable service robots\, which he nicknames Huey\, Dewey\, and Louie. Featuring a captivating\, 100%-committed central performance by Dern\, visual effects that rival anything in Star Wars\, folk songs by Joan Baez\, and a powerful ecological message\, SILENT RUNNING is a haunting and prescient sci-fi classic that resonates just as strongly today as it did upon its original release. \n\n\n\nThis screening is part of Arkadin’s April 2026 series\, HOW DOES YOUR GARDEN GROW?—featuring botanical wonders\, homicidal flora\, and secret gardens for you to make your escape. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOTHER WORLDS brings you to strange new realms through science fiction and fantasy. SUMMARY:$3 MONDAY MYSTERY MOVIE: Totally Ridiculous Eco-Horror Madness
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn the last Monday of every month\, Arkadin chooses an underseen deep cut to inflict upon an unwitting audience. Though the genre and tone may change\, the price always remains the same: three measly bucks. You can’t afford not to get yourself a ticket! \n\n\n\nThis month\, Arkadin is serving up a thick slice of deep-cut eco-horror strangeness. SUMMARY:TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: THE CRITTERS CUT presented by Strange Brew
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nStrange Brew cult movies presents one of the most bizarre double features ever conceived: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Critters Cut\, coming to Arkadin Cinema for one night only on Saturday\, May 2.  \n\n\n\nTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Critters have been combined into one giant supercut full of surprises. “Where do they come up with this stuff?” \n\n\n\nTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles adapts the popular Eastman and Laird underground comic book following the adventures of four mutated turtles living in the sewers of NYC as they try to rescue their master\, a rat name Splinter who raised them and trained them in martial arts\, against their arch-rival\, the Shredder\, and his criminal organization\, the Foot Clan. Directed by Steve Barron\, the film features Jim Henson’s final costume designs made before his death. The film was a huge box office success during its original release in 1990 and held the record for highest grossing independent film for nearly a decade.   \n\n\n\nCritters finds a group of small\, fluffy alien monsters called Krites landing in a rural Kansas town\, terrorizing a family’s farm house. The Krites are followed by a shapeshifting bounty hunter who poses as a new wave rocker named Johnny Steele. Critters\, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year\, inspired a franchise of four more horror comedy sequels. \n\n\n\nTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – The Critters Cut was conceived and edited by Jon Scorfina of Strange Brew and Michael Morlaine of Dark Dream Cinema. Toy Division STL will have a Ninja Turtle Pop-up Toy Shop in the Arkadin Lobby starting at 6:30 pm.  \n\n\n\nThis film is presented by St. Louis’s long-running cult film series Strange Brew — winner of the 2025 A-List Award for Best Movie Night in St. Louis. Strange Brew programmer Jon Scorfina will provide an introduction. SUMMARY:Animated psychedelic screwball classic ALLEGRO NON TROPPO (1976) -- New 2K Restoration!
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The film\, a feature length parody of Disney’s Fantasia\, is a masterpiece unto itself – and if you haven’t seen it you are required to attend.” – Jerry Beck\, Cartoon Brew \n\n\n\nAn enterprising producer believes he has hit upon a winning concept: a program of original animated shorts set to classical music. Undeterred by warnings that this has already been done by an American named…uhh…”Prisney\,” he rallies an orchestra of geriatric women\, a bullish conductor\, and an animator that he keeps locked in the dungeon. A gleeful sendup of Disney’s Fantasia\, Allegro Non Troppo blends live-action slapstick with cheeky animation for a film as joyful and raunchy as it is thoughtful and cutting. Witness a new civilization spring into being from the residue in a soda pop bottle left behind by space travelers\, an aging satyr struggle to recapture the vitality of his distant youth\, a telling of the Adam and Eve story that’s miles away from anything ever taught in Sunday school\, and many other churlish and cheeky delights besides in this best-known work from Italian psychedelic screwball maestro Bruno Bozetto\, newly restored and celebrating its 50th anniversary. \n\n\n\nEach month\, DRAWN VISIONS presents an outré gem from the wild\, wonderful world of animation. Focusing on the strange\, the underseen\, and the unclassifiable\, this series proves cartoons aren’t just for kids\, they’re for total freaks too! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:THE MONSTER (2016) presented by Dark Dream Cinema
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDark Dream Cinema is a monthly film series devoted to the creeping undercurrents of the arthouse scene\, hosted by Michael Morlaine. \n\n\n\n“A delightfully bloody\, straightforward creature feature that contains spectacular practical creature effects worthy of widespread recognition.” – Certified Forgotten \n\n\n\nWhile delivering her daughter Lizzy to a new life with her dad\, struggling addict Kathy collides with a wolf in the middle of the road\, in the middle of the woods\, in the middle of the night. And thus she finds herself stranded\, with no one around\, and something vicious in the dark. In no time at all\, a ride with her daughter becomes a night of survival\, as they find themselves hunted by a monster they can barely see\, but who can see them just fine. \n\n\n\nRocking the cathartic-horror trend better than most of its contemporaries\, this here-and-gone A24 thriller found the exact middle ground between grim family drama and kickass creature feature. Boiling it down to the bare essentials—darkness\, the woods\, a broken-down car\, a kid\, a mom\, and a monster—it deals in the symbolic horror of the 2010s while delivering a high-octane pulverizer that’s as heavy on the action as it is the emotional heft. This one’ll strip your nerves raw\, and leave you shivering in its wake. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:DIVINE HAMMER (2025) -- New Release!
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“I would love if queer/trans cinema headed in the direction that DIVINE HAMMER proposes… It is uninterested in the accepted language and form of how a queer movie should look or behave.” – Willow Maclay \n\n\n\nTwo maladapted young women\, both part of the same internet gore enthusiast community\, formulate a plan to meet in person with the intent that one will kill the other\, film the killing\, and then sell the cameras that “watched” to unsuspecting customers online in the hopes of spurring on a “new era of death.” Inspired in equal parts by mumblecore\, shot-on-video horror\, and a deep unease formed by the internet’s mass syndication of violence\, Divine Hammer is the debut feature by the M.
