SUMMARY:LEGEND (1985) w/ Bryan Ferry pre-show @ 6:30 pm
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A truly Freudian fairytale…exudes a disorientating\, almost druggy\, other-worldliness.” – Telegraph \n\n\n\nAfter changing the face of science fiction cinema forever with Alien and Blade Runner\, director Ridley Scott turned his visionary eye to the fantasy genre\, teaming with writer William Hjortsberg (Angel Heart) to create a breathtaking cinematic fairytale with one of the screen’s most astonishingly rendered depictions of Evil. A baby-faced Tom Cruise plays pure-hearted Jack\, who takes his true love Princess Lili (Mia Sara) to see a pair of unicorns frolicking at the forest’s edge. Little do they know\, however\, that the Lord of Darkness (Tim Curry\, delivering a truly majestic camp-devil performance underneath a metric ton of make-up designed by The Thing maestro Rob Bottin) has dispatched his minions to capture the unicorns and sever their horns so that he may plunge the world into everlasting night. After Lili and the unicorns are taken prisoner\, Jack must team with a group of forest creatures and descend into Darkness’ subterranean lair to face off against the devilish creature before it is too late. \n\n\n\nDespite a troubled production in which the elaborate full-size forest set was accidentally incinerated and a lengthy post-production that resulted in multiple versions of the film\, LEGEND has been embraced as a cult classic and remains one of the most immersive and truly gorgeous fantasy worlds ever created on screen. We will be presenting the film in its original U.S. theatrical cut\, complete with the Tangerine Dream score and climactic Bryan Ferry power ballad that American Legend fans know and love. \n\n\n\nAnd speaking of Bryan Ferry\, come out early for a Ferry pre-show starting at 6:30 pm\, featuring some of the suave crooner’s finest tunes\, both as a solo artist and as front man for the immortal Roxy Music. \n\n\n\nThis film is screening as part of Arkadin’s month-long series KNIGHTY KNIGHT\, featuring knights in shining armor and other medieval tales! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nWhen a screening is sold out\, we open a waitlist 30 minutes before showtime. SUMMARY:THE MENU (2022) presented by Dark Dream Cinema
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDark Dream Cinema is a monthly film series devoted to the creeping undercurrents of the arthouse scene\, hosted by Michael Morlaine. \n\n\n\n“Director Mark Mylod satirizes a very specific kind of elitism here with his wildly over-the-top depiction of the gourmet food world.” Christy Lemire\, RogerEbert.com \n\n\n\nAt $1250 a head\, an evening at Hawthorne is an indulgence par excellence\, promising the meal of a lifetime for the most discerning of palates. However\, tonight’s meal is unique\, serving up curated courses for a handpicked cross-section of the elite; and when one patron finds herself an unwelcome guest\, it’s clear that there’s more to the menu than meets the eye. Combining the scathing satire of American Psycho with the back-of-house drama of The Bear\, The Menu skewers the world of fine dining with an insider’s knowing eye. Presenting the 1% from the perspective of the staff that serves them\, it’s a slow build that takes its time to show its hand\, setting all the pieces in place before yanking the tablecloth away. Get a head start on the holidays with this delicious morsel of fun. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:GHOST IN THE SHELL (1995) -- 30th Anniversary Screening presented by Strange Brew
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis film is presented by St. Louis’s long-running cult film series Strange Brew — winner of the 2025 A-List Award for Best Movie Night in St. Louis. Strange Brew programmer Jon Scorfina will provide an introduction. \n\n\n\nGhost in the Shell (1995) is set in a fictional 2029 in which cybernetic technology allows for the human body to be fully replaced with mechanical body parts and lets the brain connect directly to the internet. Major Motoko Kusanagi is the cyborg leader of Public Security Section 9 in Japan. The Major and her team are investigating a highly advanced artificial intelligence known as the Puppet Master that can “ghost hack” cyberized bodies. As the Major gets closer to catching the puppet master\, she struggles with a philosophical debate about the very nature of consciousness and the soul. \n\n\n\nAdapted from the manga by Masamune Shirow\, Ghost in the Shell was a Japanese British international co-production from  Kodansha\, Bandai Visual and Manga Entertainment\, all who were looking to create an anime film as critically acclaimed and successful as the groundbreaking Akira. The film originally failed to recoup its budget during its theatrical release\, but soon gained a massive cult following when it was released on VHS\, becoming the first Japanese film ever to top the Billboard video sales chart in 1996. Now Ghost in the Shell is widely regarded as a masterpiece\, with praise for director Mamoru Oshii for his “thermo-optical camouflage” animation and a memorable score by Kenji Kawai. The film launched a franchise that includes multiple sequels\, television series and a live-action Hollywood remake\, as well as having a massive influence on the Wachowskis when they created The Matrix. \n\n\n\nWith AI technology playing an increasingly large and disruptive role in our society\, Ghost in the Shell has never been a more relevant film to reexamine than today. Don’t miss this 30th anniversary screening presented by Strange Brew celebrating one of the most acclaimed sci-fi anime films of all time. \n\n\n\nThe film will be presented in its dubbed version. \n\n\n\nA Ghost in the Shell – Tachikomatic Days preshow will begin at 6:25 pm.   \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person.
