SUMMARY:Jim Jarmusch's NIGHT ON EARTH (1991) w/ Tom Waits pre-show presented by Strange Brew
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis film is presented by St. Louis’s long-running cult film series Strange Brew — winner of the 2025 A-List Award for Best Movie Night in St. Louis. Strange Brew programmer Jon Scorfina will provide an introduction. \n\n\n\nNIGHT ON EARTH contains five vignettes linked together by parallel narratives of bizarre taxi rides. The film tells the individual stories of taxi drivers and their unique passengers over the course of one night in five different cities: Los Angeles\, New York City\, Paris\, Rome and Helsinki. Written\, produced and directed by American independent filmmaker Jim Jarmusch\, his 1991 anthology film features a huge ensemble cast that includes Winona Ryder\, Gena Rowlands\, Giancarlo Esposito\, Rosie Perez\, Roberto Benigni and more\, as well as a soundtrack by eccentric composer Tom Waits. Each sonder-evoking story\, some of which are comedic like “Helmut & Yo-Yo” in New York and others heartbreakingly tragic such as the determined taxi driver’s tale in Helsinki\, paint the poetic\, life-affirming commonality of strangers’ brief interactions that could be happening simultaneously anytime\, anywhere on the planet.   \n\n\n\nA Tom Waits music video pre-show will begin at 6:30 pm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:TALES FROM THE CRYPT (1972) presented by Dark Dream Cinema
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDark Dream Cinema is a monthly film series devoted to the creeping undercurrents of the arthouse scene\, hosted by Michael Morlaine. \n\n\n\n“One of the best of Amicus’s anthologies\, maintaining the right balance between ghoulish horror and tongue-in-cheek humor.” J. Watts\, Cinema Essentials \n\n\n\nThe first film adaptation of the legendary EC horror comics\, Amicus’s Tales from the Crypt provided the midway point between the demise of EC in 1956 and the debut of the titular HBO series in 1989. Comprised of five stories from several EC titles\, the film features such stars as Joan Collins and Peter Cushing giving life to some of the most morbid tales ever splashed across a four-color page. The segments are: \n\n\n\n\nAnd All Through the House: While attempting to dispose of her husband’s body on Christmas Eve\, a young widow finds herself trapped by a psychotic Santa on the prowl.\n\n\n\nReflection of Death: The survivor of a car crash is met with horror from passerby as he tries to make his way home.\n\n\n\nPoetic Justice: A lonely old man is driven to the brink by his cruel-hearted neighbors\, but enjoys his own karmic retribution.\n\n\n\nWish You Were Here: In a modern update of “The Monkey’s Paw”\, a ruthless businessman is granted three wishes\, and lives to regret each one.\n\n\n\nBlind Alleys: The residents of a Dickensian home for the blind exact revenge upon their cruel new headmaster.\n\n\n\n\nCome celebrate the season of ghost stories as we close out the year with this classic clutch of tales. Show up early for an HBO preshow at 6:10pm! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:WTO/99 (2025) -- new release!
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Some documentaries just feel like a sock in the jaw. Ian Bell’s fiery and explosive archival picture WTO/99 is that kind of film. Built on local news footage\, MiniDV videocassettes\, CCTV images\, and more\, Bell’s charged film… takes viewers back to 1999\, a moment when class united more than politics divided.” – Robert Daniels\, RogerEbert.com \n\n\n\nIn late 1999\, members of the emerging World Trade Organization convened in Seattle\, Washington\, for what was supposed to be a series of routine negotiations. Instead\, they were met with one of the largest U.S. protests of global powers in the 20th century. Protesters from across the aisle representing everything from labor rights to environmental protections filled the streets in droves\, with signs and video cameras in tow. Crafted from a stunning array of newscaster broadcasts and outtakes\, citizen journalist tapes\, home videos\, and press conferences\, WTO/99 is an entirely archival film chronicling this consequential four-day event. In a galvanizing\, layered\, and occasionally cheeky manner\, a direct line unfolds between the WTO protests and the issues of corporate control and environmental degradation we still reckon with 25 years later. \n\n\n\nWant to chart the degraded trajectory of the U.S. power elite even further? Then grab a ticket to the mind-melting mash-up film HELLO DANKNESS\, which takes surrealistic satirical aim at our present political calamity. Together\, these films form a double-header charting the precipitous decline of the AmeriKKKan ruling class. \n\n\n\nWTO/99 is playing twice at Arkadin\, once on Dec. 5 at 7 pm and again on Dec. 6 at 4:30 pm. Please make sure to select the correct showtime on checkout. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. SUMMARY:Mind-melting mashup HELLO DANKNESS (2022) -- Friday Night WTF!
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A fresh and unforgettable cinematic experience. Built from samples of movies\, public speeches\, famous songs\, and even memes… stitched together to create a vivid representation of American culture before and after the 2016 elections… You’ve never seen a film quite like this one before.” – Collider \n\n\n\nThe Australian-born\, Brooklyn-based siblings\, Soda Jerk\, repurpose and collage classic films. They describe their hilariously warped narrative feature\, HELLO DANKNESS\, as a “political fable that bears witness to the psychotropic spectacle of American politics from 2016 to 2021.” Sampling 500+ clips from movies\, television\, commercials\, memes\, and news footage\, the film situates our political fissures within a suburban neighborhood inhabited by characters from popular comedies and horror films. Players and trolls from the 2016 election (Hillary Clinton\, Bernie Sanders\, Donald Trump\, Vladimir Putin\, Mark Zuckerberg\, MAGA and QAnon followers) are ingeniously grafted into these scenes to eerily send up the absurdities of American politics today. It is “a gleeful satire of our strange political times.” (The Hollywood Reporter) \n\n\n\nWant to chart the degraded trajectory of the U.S. power elite even further? Then grab a ticket to gripping found-footage doc WTO/99\, which takes us back to the nascent origins of our deeply fractured political climate. Together\, these films form a double-header charting the precipitous decline of the AmeriKKKan ruling class. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Policies\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll seats are first-come\, first-served.\n\n\n\nThe theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime\, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.\n\n\n\nAll ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events\, which are restricted to 21+. SUMMARY:World Wide Magazine presents A Granite City Tumbleweed Christmas
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe World Wide Magazine Christmas tradition continues at Arkadin!  \n\n\n\nJim Varagona of The Pete Parisi Archives will introduce a handful of World Wide Magazine Christmas clips and then segue into episode 169 of World Wide Magazine from 1995: Vanessa Vargo in A Granite City Tumbleweed Christmas. See and hear the musical talents of The Little Songbird\, Vanessa\, to celebrate this gala yuletide season. Spend the holiday in the quaint gem of Illinois\, Granite City\, with Jack Calve and Marty! \n\n\n\nWorld Wide Magazine was a public access television program that ran in St. Louis from 1986-2001. Its creator was Peter Parisi who had a previous life in St. Louis radio before the show. The show is a variety of man-on-the-street segments\, goofy skits\, and a collective of colorful characters that gathered around Pete as the years went by. It is weird\, funny\, edgy\, and offensive\, but undoubtedly unforgettable. Since Parisi passed in 2002\, it has gained an additional following from its growing archives on YouTube. \n\n\n\nWe hope to have several members of the cast in attendance for some Q & A.  \n\n\n\nYour $5 ticket goes to further digitize shows from the archive. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person. SUMMARY:Animated Christmas Folk Horror KRABAT: THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE (1978) -- $5
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Eerie\, creepy…fantastic\, mystical\, and oddly beautiful. A lost treasure of early animation\, nearly unknown to the English speaking world.” – R-Massive \n\n\n\nDirected by Karel Zeman\, the wildly imaginative “Czech Méliès” behind classics like The Fabulous Baron Munchausen and Invention for Destruction\, KRABAT: THE SORCERER’S APPRENTICE is a hauntingly beautiful tale of black magic perfect for the Christmas season. Animated with papercraft models\, KRABAT is like the darkest children’s storybook ever written come to life. Based on the novel by Otfried Preußler\, itself adapted from a Sorbian folktale\, Zeman’s film tells the story of a young boy initiated into the mysterious world of magic by an evil sorcerer who runs a kind of evil Hogwarts out of a creepy old mill. Filled with dark humor\, bestial transmogrification\, and a chilly winter atmosphere\, this little-known folk-horror masterpiece feels as if it emerged fully formed from the mysterious forests of Central Europe. \n\n\n\nEach month\, DRAWN VISIONS presents an outré gem from the wild\, wonderful world of animation. Focusing on the strange\, the underseen\, and the unclassifiable\, this series proves cartoons aren’t just for kids\, they’re for total freaks too! DESCRIPTION:“Surreal and heartwarming in equal measure…a wonder to behold.” – Far Out \n\n\n\nRecorded after Kate Bush’s legendary 1979 tour\, this BBC special is composed of 12 songs gathered from her first three studio albums. Featuring an appearance from Peter Gabriel\, this truly bonkers spectacle captures Bush at the height of her powers. Though it’s only kind of Christmas-y\, it’s a can’t-miss treat for fans of art rock\, avant-garde choreography\, and weird-ass ’70s stuff. This special is also significant because it was\, in many ways\, Kate’s departing gift to fans — a bow atop a year that would mark the end of her concert career for the next three decades. \n\n\n\nThis event is totally free! No ticket or reservation required. \n\n\n\nThis film is screening as part of our December series\, IT’S KIND OF A CHRISTMAS MOVIE\, showcasing some off-beat Yuletide(ish) tales to warm your soul this winter. We follow the MPAA rating guidelines for all other films.\n\n\n\nTickets can be purchased using the BUY TICKETS link above. Upon ordering\, you will receive a confirmation email from Square. Tickets may also be purchased on the day of the show at the concession counter.\n\n\n\nIf you’ve purchased advance tickets\, when you arrive\, please give your name at the concession counter to check in. \n\n\n\nTickets are returnable by sending a request through the contact form located on our About Us page prior to showtime.\n\n\n\nWhen an event is sold out\, we reserve the right to release open seats to customers on the waitlist. If you have a pre-purchased ticket and arrive late and there is no seat for you\, your ticket will be refunded.\n\n\n\nAll screenings are held in our indoor theater unless indicated otherwise in the event description above.\n\n\n\nPlease respect your fellow movie-goers by remaining quiet and refraining from using your cell phone throughout the screening.

SUMMARY:EDWARD SCISSORHANDS (1990)
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Burton’s modern fairytale has an almost palpably personal feel: it is told gently\, subtly and with infinite sympathy” – Daily Telegraph \n\n\n\nAn eccentric fairytale for the weirdo in all of us\, EDWARD SCISSORHANDS might be the most personal film Tim Burton ever made. Johnny Depp stars as the titular Frankenstein-like creation\, a human being assembled by a mad scientist (St. Louis’ hometown hero Vincent Price) who dies before he can finish his creation\, leaving the boy with scissors for hands. Edward is taken in by a kind suburban saleswoman (Dianne Wiest) who takes him in to her home where he falls in love with her teenage daughter (Winona Ryder). Despite Edward’s good heart and gentle soul\, his freakish appearance makes him an outcast among the often small-minded denizens of suburbia. Touching\, beautiful\, and sweepingly romantic with a sardonic satirical streak\, EDWARD SCISSORHANDS is also a wintry fairytale\, perfect for the Christmas season. \n\n\n\nThis film is screening as part of our December series\, IT’S KIND OF A CHRISTMAS MOVIE\, showcasing some off-beat Yuletide(ish) tales to warm your soul this winter. SUMMARY:"Gory and grotesquely twisted" slasher BLACK CHRISTMAS (2006) -- Friday Night WTF!
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFriday Night WTF screenings are cheap\, weird\, and out of control! Cult trashterpieces\, so-bad-they’re-good crapfests\, movies that make you ask “What the hell am I watching?!” — we’ve got ’em all on Friday night. \n\n\n\n“Gory and grotesquely twisted… a gleefully icky holiday horror romp that pushes all the right buttons.” – Fangoria \n\n\n\nLargely dismissed when it arrived on Christmas Day 2006\, this gleefully gory sequel to Bob Clark’s timeless slasher classic is ripe for rediscovery. Brutal\, funny\, and outlandishly fucked up\, BLACK CHRISTMAS is truly unhinged\, featuring multiple eye gougings\, a bright-yellow-skinned killer\, and Christmas cookies made of human flesh. Starring Hallmark Channel mainstay Lacey Chabert\, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Michelle Trachtenberg (RIP)\, the film takes place on Christmas Eve at the house of Delta Alpha Kappa\, where a group of sorority sisters are terrorized by escaped mental patient Billy Lenz. Bathed in the glow of string lights and featuring multiple yuletide-related kills\, this deliciously mid-aughts slash-’em-up from X-Files scribe Glen Morgan is the perfect WTF-er to get you in the Christmas spirit. \n\n\n\nThis film is screening as part of our December series\, IT’S KIND OF A CHRISTMAS MOVIE\, showcasing some off-beat Yuletide(ish) tales to warm your soul this winter. SUMMARY:Lynne Ramsay's MORVERN CALLAR (2002) w/ Aphex Twin pre-show presented by Lost in the Arthouse
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLOST IN THE ARTHOUSE is a monthly series hosted by Arkadin co-owner Keith Watson that takes you to hidden corners of filmdom far from Hollywood. From must-see classics to obscurities waiting to be discovered\, these films stand at cinema’s bleeding edge. \n\n\n\n“A mesmerizing cinematic poem from the first frame to the last.” -Glenn Kenny\, Premiere \n\n\n\nThe Christmas season was never bluer than it is in Lynne Ramsay’s oblique masterpiece of dislocation MORVERN CALLAR. The film opens on Christmas morning as the title character (Samantha Morton) awakes to find her boyfriend face down in a pool of blood\, dead by his own hand. He has left behind a suicide note\, a mixtape\, Christmas presents\, money for a funeral\, and an unpublished novel. Faced with this crisis\, what can Morvern do? Put her name on the novel\, submit it to a publisher\, hack up her boyfriend’s body\, and head to Spain with the cash\, of course! What might sound lurid or deeply unpleasant plays\, in Ramsay’s masterful hands\, as an utterly entrancing study of the vagaries of the human heart and mind. Morvern is an arresting enigma brought to full mercurial life by Morton in one of the 21st century’s finest performances. Powered by one of the coolest soundtracks of all time—featuring tracks by Can\, Stereolab\, Aphex Twin\, and more—MORVERN CALLAR is haunting\, hypnotic\, and\, more than 20 years on\, remains one of cinema’s most beautiful unsolved riddles. \n\n\n\nThis program will also feature Lynne Ramsay’s Christmas-set short film GASMAN. \n\n\n\nAnd come out early for an Aphex Twin pre-show starting at 6:30 pm! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films\, as sensitivities vary from person to person.
