We are excited to announce the return of beloved cult movie series, Strange Brew. For years, STRANGE BREW was held on the first Wednesday of every month at Schlafly Bottleworks in Maplewood. And now, it comes to its new home, Arkadin Cinema & Bar!

One of the weirdest movies ever produced by a major Hollywood studio, Ken Russell’s Altered States is a hallucinogenic journey into the deepest recesses of the human psyche. William Hurt, making his film debut, stars as psychopathologist (and possible psychopath) Edward Jessups who seeks to unlock the secrets of consciousness through mind-altering drugs and sensory deprivation. In the process, his mind and body begin to devolve in some of the most bizarre ways imaginable. Combining elements of sci-fi, horror, and acid-trip experimentalism that rivals the work of Alejandro Jodorowsky, Russell’s film is a fevered display of visual pyrotechnics and unsettling aural effects that assault the viewer from every angle possible. After watching this one, you’re sure to leave in an altered state of your own.
