FREE MOVIE: The Freshman (1925) presented by Silents, Please STL

September 8, 2021 : 8:00 pm

“Gag for gag, Lloyd was the funniest screen comic of his time.” -Dave Kehr

Silents, Please STL presents free silent films at the Arkadin, kicking off with Harold Lloyd’s classic college comedy, The Freshman. A massive box-office smash in its day, the film is just as charming and hilarious today. Starring the “third genius” of silent film as a plucky newbie at university determined to become the big man on campus, the film is a glorious showcase of Lloyd’s charm, relatability, and mastery of slapstick. The film boasts one uproarious set piece after another, climaxing with an epic football game that has rightfully become one of cinema’s most legendary sports sequences. The program also includes two additional shorts for a full night of silent-film magic. The program is free, but a donation to Silents, Please STL are encouraged.
