This film is presented by St. Louis’s long-running cult film series Strange Brew and will feature a pre-film intro by Strange Brew programmer Jon Scorfina.

In Under the Silver Lake, an aimless 33-year-old, pop culture obsessed conspiracy theorist named Sam (Andrew Garfield) begins investigating the sudden disappearance of his neighbor Sarah (Riley Keough) after they share a brief romantic evening in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles. Sam discovers a strange symbol in Sarah’s abandoned apartment, which soon leads him down a path of deciphering hidden messages in pop songs, graffiti and an underground zine called Under the Silver Lake as he quests to find his neighbor’s whereabouts. As the mystery unfolds, Sam finds himself in a much more nefarious plot than he could ever have imagined. 

Under the Silver Lake is a neo-noir that begs audiences to decipher hidden messages along with the film’s protagonist, some profoundly meaningful, dissecting Hollywood’s stratification, and some simply red herrings. The film features a who’s who of Hollywood’s newest talent before they were stars, including Riley Keough, Zosia Mamet & Sydney Sweeney, while also capturing unique performances by oddball actors like Patrick Fischler and The Jesus Lizard’s David Yow as the Homeless King. 

Under the Silver Lake was an unexpected bomb for its distributor A24 and director David Robert Mitchell (It Follows) during its original release in 2018. Now after the public’s reexamination of Andrew Garfield’s career in the wake of the massive success of Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021 as well as a string of other smaller indie hits, fans have embraced Under the Silver Lake as a modern cult classic, and it is perhaps the best depiction of modern Hollywood since David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive.     

Silver Lake’s own Silversun Pickups perform the film’s signature song “Turning Teeth” as the secret backup band to the film’s fictitious rockers Jesus and the Brides of Dracula.  A Silversun Pickups music video pre-show will proceed the film from 6 to 7 pm. All attendees will also be given a hobo code cipher to use as they watch the movie to help them unravel the mystery Under the Silver Lake.

THEATER POLICIES

All seats are first-come, first-served.

The theater opens one hour prior to showtime, except for “Happy Hour” events when the theater will open at the event’s start time.

All ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events, which are restricted to 21+. We follow the MPAA rating guidelines for all other films.

Tickets can be purchased using the BUY TICKETS link above. Upon ordering, you will receive a confirmation email from Square. Tickets may also be purchased on the day of the show at the concession counter.

If you’ve purchased advance tickets, when you arrive, please give your name at the concession counter to check in.

Tickets are returnable by sending a request through the contact form located on our About Us page prior to showtime.

When an event is sold out, we reserve the right to release open seats to customers on the waitlist. If you have a pre-purchased ticket and arrive late and there is no seat for you, your ticket will be refunded.

All screenings are held in our indoor theater unless indicated otherwise in the event description above.
