THE WICKER MAN (1973) w/ Corn Husk Doll-Making @ 2 pm

October 6 : 3:00 pm 5:00 pm

“Remains as bizarre and bewitching a fable as when it first appeared… Once seen, never forgotten!” –The Hollywood Reporter

The quintessential British folk horror work, THE WICKER MAN has had an enduring fascination for audiences since its release in 1973. A unique and unsettling work that explores the collision of rigid Christian morality and freewheeling pagan folklore, the film is a strange, sensuous work in which a devoutly religious police sergeant’s (Edward Woodward) faith is tested as he investigates the disappearance of a young girl on a remote Scottish island gripped by a strange pagan cult. A major influence on Ari Aster’s Midsommar, THE WICKER MAN stars the legendary Christopher Lee as the mysterious Lord Summerisle and makes use of its isolated location, iconic imagery and haunting soundtrack as it gradually builds to one of the most terrifying climaxes in modern cinema.

Come out early as we’ll be making corn husk dolls in the lobby before the film while listening to some classic British folk rock, starting at 2 pm!

This film is playing as part of Arkadin’s spotlight on Folk Horror From Around the World. Each Sunday features a creepy folktale-inspired horror film from a different country!
