IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS (1994) — 30th Anniversary! — w/ Music of John Carpenter Pre-Show @ 6 pm
October 16 : 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Though it received mixed reviews from critics upon its release and remains far lesser-known than classics like Halloween and The Thing, for true John Carpenter heads, IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS will always be one of the master’s quintessential horror works. A self-reflexive trip down the rabbit hole that stars Sam Neill—channeling the wildly unhinged energy he brought to Possession—as a private investigator hired to investigate the disappearance of Stephen King-like author Sutter Cane (Jürgen Prochnow) whose latest novel is literally driving readers insane. Drawn to a town that exists only in Cane’s books, Trent crosses the barrier between fact and fiction and enters a terrifying world from which there is no escape. Inspired by the tales of H.P. Lovecraft, this shocking film grows richer with each passing year. Thirty years after its theatrical run, IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS remains, in the words of its acclaimed director, “horror beyond description!”
A pre-show devoted to the eerie atmospheric music of John Carpenter precedes the film, starting at 6 pm.
This film is part of Arkadin’s October-long SPOOKY SEASON series, highlighting ghosts, goblins, ghouls and more horrific entertainment in the lead-up to All Hallows’ Eve!
