“Classic supernatural horror with effective frights. Its strengths lie in its offering of underrepresented lore.” -JordyReviewsIt.com

Sam is an Indian American high school girl who wants nothing more than to fit in. She’s embarrassed by her parents, her culture, and most of all her former friend Tamira—a hapless outcast who grows stranger by the day, and whose ever-present glass jar gives everyone the creeps.

But no one knows how creepy that jar really is, as deep inside it lurks an entity that feeds on fear itself. And when the jar is broken, the entity escapes, forcing Sam to face her fears and embrace her heritage in order to survive.

An impressive debut from writer/director Bishal Dutta, It Lives Inside squares Western culture against East Indian mythology for a fresh and unique take on the immigrant experience, with top-notch performances and excellent practical creature effects. Though it met with mixed reviews and disappointing box office—earning back only $7 million of its $30 million budget—it is a rare jewel of a film that deserves to be savored by those who appreciate high-concept horror.
