ANACONDA (1997) w/ scary snakes pre-show @ 6 pm

August 14 : 7:00 pm 8:45 pm

“The perfect good bad movie… the platonic ideal of a mid-’90s studio thriller” – The Ringer

A pulpy jungle thriller that’s in on its own joke, Anaconda is the kind of movie you yearn for every time you roll the dice on some dodgy Tubi movie called something like Sharknadopocalypse. It’s lean, it’s mean, it’s winking (but not overly so), and it delivers the damn goods! Starring Jennifer Lopez, fresh off the buzz of Selena, as the head of a documentary crew who find themselves cruising down the Amazon on a river barge pursued by one big-ass snake, Anaconda combines some legit location shooting with delicious practical effects, taut tension, epic payoffs, and one of the most gloriously unhinged performances in Hollywood history. The titular snake may devour its victims, but it’s no match for Jon Voight absolutely inhaling the scenery as a villainous snake poacher, complete with “Kabuki-like facial expressions and Paraguay-by-way-of-Yonkers accent” (The Ringer). Equal parts creature-feature spectacle and campy B-movie trash, Anaconda delivers a sweaty fight to the death that will leave you grinning wider than an anaconda unhinging its jaw.

Before the film, we’ll have a pre-show of clips of scary (but not too scary) snakes, starting at 6 pm.
