Animated psychedelic screwball classic ALLEGRO NON TROPPO (1976) — New 2K Restoration!

May 3 : 5:00 pm 6:45 pm

“The film, a feature length parody of Disney’s Fantasia, is a masterpiece unto itself – and if you haven’t seen it you are required to attend.” – Jerry Beck, Cartoon Brew

An enterprising producer believes he has hit upon a winning concept: a program of original animated shorts set to classical music. Undeterred by warnings that this has already been done by an American named…uhh…”Prisney,” he rallies an orchestra of geriatric women, a bullish conductor, and an animator that he keeps locked in the dungeon. A gleeful sendup of Disney’s Fantasia, Allegro Non Troppo blends live-action slapstick with cheeky animation for a film as joyful and raunchy as it is thoughtful and cutting. Witness a new civilization spring into being from the residue in a soda pop bottle left behind by space travelers, an aging satyr struggle to recapture the vitality of his distant youth, a telling of the Adam and Eve story that’s miles away from anything ever taught in Sunday school, and many other churlish and cheeky delights besides in this best-known work from Italian psychedelic screwball maestro Bruno Bozetto, newly restored and celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Each month, DRAWN VISIONS presents an outré gem from the wild, wonderful world of animation. Focusing on the strange, the underseen, and the unclassifiable, this series proves cartoons aren’t just for kids, they’re for total freaks too!
