BLACK SHEEP (1996) — Emergency “Rock the Vote” Screening presented by Strange Brew

November 4 : 7:00 pm 9:00 pm

This film is presented by St. Louis’s long-running cult film series Strange Brew and will feature a pre-film intro by Strange Brew programmer Jon Scorfina.

The Strange Brew cult film series returns to Arkadin Cinema with an emergency “Rock the Vote” Screening of the Chris Farley/ David Spade election-mishap comedy Black Sheep on Monday, November 4, just one day before the actual 2024 presidential election!

Black Sheep was originally dismissed by critics as a quick Tommy Boy cash-in during its theatrical debut in 1996. In retrospect, it is now considered an essential pairing with Tommy Boy capturing the SNL comedy duo of Chris Farley & David Spade in the height of their ’90s slapstick heyday. Directed by Penelope Spheeris (The Decline of Western Civilization, Wayne’s World), Black Sheep cast Farley as Mike Donnelly, the well-intentioned loser brother of Washington state Gubernatorial candidate Al Donnelly. Al tasks his aide Steve Dodds (Spade) with wrangling Mike away from the campaign trail, but the chaotic duo soon uncovers a potential election scandal. Seattle Grunge ambassadors Mudhoney cameo in an unforgettable “Rock the Vote” scene that perfectly captures ’90s voter enthusiasm/apathy and is a hilarious reminder that voting is not only important but can also be fun.

To paraphrase Chris Farley, “Voting kicks ass right! Cause, uh, if voting kicks ass, then you got some kick ass shit!”

A MUDHONEY Music Video Preshow will precede the film starting at 6pm.

Note: Strange Brew normally screens on the first Wednesday of every month, but is adjusting our schedule to accommodate an emergency pre-election screening.
