CANDYMAN (1992) — outdoor backlot screening!

October 14 : 8:00 pm 10:00 pm

“A chilly, bloody, romantic, and intelligent slice of horror that stands as a modern classic of the genre.” – Mr. Movie

Say his name five times, and he appears. A slave spirit with a hook for a hand, a hulking frame, and a swarm of bees surrounding him, Candyman (the inimitable Tony Todd) haunts the notoriously neglected Cabrini-Green housing project in the south side of Chicago in this gut-wrenching horror classic. The film follows white grad student Helen (Virginia Madsen) researching urban folklore who believes the stories of the deadly Candyman might provide a new twist for her thesis. Helen arrogantly assumes Candyman can’t really exist until he appears, igniting a string of terrifying, grisly slayings. But the police don’t believe in monsters and don’t listen to the impoverished residents of Cabrini-Green. The most romantic and socially resonant film in a genre that more often favors scantily clad teens getting hacked up, Candyman is the rare slasher that demands to be taken seriously. It’s also seriously fucking scary.
