CATS ON PARK AVENUE (1989) w/ Garfield & Friends pre-show @ 6:30 pm

April 23 : 7:00 pm 9:00 pm

“The most bonkers film I’ve seen in ages. A film about Shibuya streetcats that’s beyond exuberant and ridiculous.” – Karamashi, Letterboxd

Combining adorable street-cat footage, ultra-’80s musical sequences, strange animated interludes, and teen melodrama, CATS ON PARK AVENUE is a singular pop-art fantasia. Amid the winding back alleys of Shibuya, where cats roam the rooftops, a group of young dancers prepare for a stage musical based on those very street cats! Featuring synth-tastic City Pop bangers, such as the self-explanatory “We Love Cats!,” CATS ON PARK AVENUE is a day-glo dream packed with nearly as much candid cat footage as dialogue.

Come out early for a pre-show devoted to everyone’s favorite lasagna-munching Monday-loathing feline, Garfield, starting at 6:30 pm.

This film is screening as part of Arkadin’s series ANIMALIA MANIA, which spotlights films heavily featuring non-human creatures — some friendly, others deadly.
