Come celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a lucha libre smackdown. In this deliciously silly mashup of monster-movie chills and Mexican wrestling thrills, the titular luchadores take on an all-star lineup of classic graveyard fiends, including the Wolfman, Frankenstein’s monster, a cyclops, the Mummy, vampires (male and female varieties), and some kind of bizarre dwarf alien with an exposed brain. Inside and outside the ring, Santo and Blue Demon never take off their masks, lending an amusingly surreal tinge to otherwise banal dialogue sequences. Light on plot and heavy on bone-crunching fight scenes, Santo and Blue Demon vs. the Monsters delivers exactly what it promises: luchadores and gruesome ghouls beating the shit out of each other.
