Denis Villeneuve’s ENEMY (2013)

January 22, 2026 : 7:00 pm 8:45 pm

“Denis Villeneuve’s shared dream of a film takes the simple premise of a man glimpsing his doppelganger while watching a movie and mines every bit of tension and oddity from it — there’s hardly a scene that doesn’t exude menace.” – Village Voice

Stylish and sinister, Dune director Denis Villeneuve’s pulsating psychological thriller ENEMY is undoubtedly the French-Canadian auteur’s most daring and underseen work. Jake Gyllenhaal delivers one of the finest performances of his career in a dual role, as listless history professor Adam Bell and the man’s doppelganger, a low-rent actor whom Adam first spots in the background of a movie, playing a bellhop. Thus kicks off an intensely off-kilter tale of suspense laden with surreal images, Lynchian undertones, and creeping dread, all building to a shocking final image that has justifiably been suggested to be “the scariest ending of any film ever made” (David Ehrlich, Film.com).
