DISTURBING THE PEACE presented by Fist City — FREE!

April 8 : 7:00 pm

Knuckle up! On April 8, 2024, Saint Louis Video Society makes its triumphant return with a new film series — FIST CITY

FIST CITY explores the outer limits in action cinema—odd, obscure, low-budget, international, and more! FIST CITY is “auteur action”—filmmakers pushing the boundaries of cinema and good taste. FIST CITY is “vanity action” from aspiring superstars—writing/directing/starring in their self-made springboard to global acclaim. FIST CITY is “import/export action” from around the globe—made in hopes of breaking into new markets with brash, and sometimes rehashed, ideas. And most importantly, FIST CITY is “kick-ass action” that you won’t soon forget!

Director John Sjogren’s Super-8mm passion project, DISTURBING THE PEACE (1988), chainsaws straight through the gut of late-80s SOCAL culture. This blood-splattered, no-budget experiment in violence follows a pair of goons trying to survive the LA drug trade. Sjogren, with a clear affinity for Brian De Palma’s Scarface, points a lens at an ultraviolent world of psychotic enforcers, white-knuckle car stunts, misused power-tools, FBI wire taps, and more. DISTURBING THE PEACE is an almost unseen testament to a style of breathless, indie genre-filmmaking that is willing to throw everything (including human limbs) at the camera to see what sticks.
