FOOTBALL FUNNIES: The Marx Bros. in HORSE FEATHERS (1932) + The Three Stooges in THREE LITTLE PIGSKINS (1934)

February 11 : 1:00 pm

Before watching the Big Game, come enjoy some classic gridiron hilarity with the 3 Stooges and the Marx Brothers (plus a surprise or two)!

The Three Stooges in THREE LITTLE PIGSKINS (1934)
“Three Little Pigskins is one of the most enduringly popular comedy shorts of the 1930s, featuring The Three Stooges at their anarchic best.” -AllMovie

The Stooges star in one of their earliest (and most hilariously violent) shorts, Three Little Pigskins, in which Moe, Larry, and Curly find themselves recruited to play in major football game. The only problem: these three knuckleheads have no idea what they’re doing! Featuring some of the Lucille Ball (then sporting a platinum blonde do) co-stars in one of her first screen appearances as a gangster’s moll.

The Marx Brothers in HORSE FEATHERS (1932)
“The institution of higher education is held up for ridicule and satirized mercilessly in Horse Feathers (1932), a madcap burlesque of university life” -TCM

One of the Marx Brothers’ definitive cinematic efforts, Horse Feathers stars Groucho, Harpo, Chico, and Zeppo as professors and students at Huxley College, a fictional institution desperate to win a football game against its rival, Darwin University. Full of absurd humor, wordplay, and musical numbers, as the brothers cause chaos on and off the field, the features such memorable moments as Groucho’s lecture on anatomy, Chico and Harpo’s attempt to kidnap the star players of Darwin, and the anarchic final game that ends with a dog running away with the ball. Horse Feathers is rightly considered not only one of the best films of the Marxes but one of the greatest comedies of all time.
