After laying dormant for fifteen years, Gamera was rebooted for the big screen in a smash hit trilogy masterminded by director Shusuke Kaneko, writer Kazunori Ito (Ghost in the Shell) and SFX director Shinji Higuchi (who went on to co-direct Shin Godzilla). Trading the campy kid-friendly surrealism of the earlier films for a darker, more realistic tone and jaw-dropping innovative special effects, the “Heisei trilogy” are still regarded today as three of the best—if not the very best—kaiju films ever made. This unmissable trio plays on the last three Sundays in September at 3 pm. Each film in the trilogy builds on the previous one but also offers a perfectly satisfying standalone experience!

  • Sept. 13 @ 3 pm — Gamera: Guardian of the Universe (1995)
    “Modern monster classic” – Toho Kingdom
    Following a long absence from the big screen, Gamera made a triumphant return to form in time for his 30th anniversary, with upgraded special effects and a more serious tone. Now a guardian deity, Gamera tussles with a new incarnation of his old foe—the flying monster Gyaos — first in Fukuoka, and then in a spectacular aerial battle over Tokyo.
  • Sept. 20 @ 3 pm — Gamera 2: Attack of Legion (1996)
    “The kind of sequel that all kaiju films should aspire to be” – Cinematical Penguin
    One year after the events of the previous Gamera film, Earth’s ecosystem is under attack by an insect lifeform from outer space bent on colonizing our world. As the city of Sendai is destroyed, Gamera must protect the planet from the monster Legion and gets some help from Japan’s Self Defense Forces.
  • Sept. 27 @ 3 pm — Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris (1999)
    ”The greatest giant monster film ever made” – A.D. Vision
    As Gyaos monsters begin to attack Japan again, a young girl — whose parents died during a previous monster conflict — discovers a new creature called Iris. After merging with the girl, the trauma-powered Iris seeks revenge on Gamera, who seems to be losing his patience with humankind.

Theater Policies

  • All seats are first-come, first-served.
  • The theater opens 30 minutes prior to showtime, except for “Happy Hour” events and pre-shows when the theater opens at the listed start time.
  • When a screening is sold out, we open a waitlist 30 minutes before showtime. You must physically come to the lobby to get your name on the waitlist. Seats are released as they become available. All remaining seats are released at showtime.
  • All ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events, which are restricted to 21+. We follow the MPAA rating guidelines for all other films.
  • Tickets can be purchased using the BUY TICKETS link above. Upon ordering, you will receive a confirmation email from Square. Tickets may also be purchased on the day of the show at the concession counter.
  • If you’ve purchased advance tickets, when you arrive, please give your name at the concession counter to check in.
  • Tickets are returnable by sending a request through the contact form located on our About Us page prior to showtime.
  • When an event is sold out, we reserve the right to release open seats to customers on the waitlist. If you have a pre-purchased ticket and arrive late and there is no seat for you, your ticket will be refunded.
  • All screenings are held in our indoor theater unless indicated otherwise in the event description above.
  • Please respect your fellow movie-goers by remaining quiet and refraining from using your cell phone throughout the screening.
