GIVE ME PITY! (2023) w/ Saturday Night TV Special presented by Head Cleaner Theatre

December 21, 2023 : 7:30 pm

A WOMAN ON THE VERGE OF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN, IN FULL COLOR

For the third installment of HEAD CLEANER THEATRE, we’re changing things up a little bit and bringing you a brand new feature film! We’re very excited to be showcasing a film aligned with HCT’s deranged analog aesthetic and sensibility. But don’t take my word for it, check out the synopsis courtesy of Fantastic Fest’s Lisa Dreyer:

Sissy St. Claire [Sophie van Haselberg] is the queen of the airwaves, ruling over her very own TV special. A true diva, St. Claire can do it all – sing, dance, and act – all without breaking a sweat. That is until a shadowy presence begins stalking her, marring the perfect fictional world St. Claire has crafted for herself. As reality and fiction blur, St. Claire tries to carry on performing while grappling with her own self-doubt and fear.

In her latest movie, director Amanda Kramer crafts an unbelievably entertaining and stylish twist on the variety shows of the past, complete with intricate disco dance routines, hilariously cheesy monologues, and canned laughter. Through the expert use of soft focus, colored lighting, and retro editing techniques, GIVE ME PITY! could easily pass this off as a recently-unearthed, bizarre special from the ‘70s.”

PLUS! Immediately following the feature Mark Willey will be presenting a curated showcase of the Saturday night variety specials that inspired GIVE ME PITY! That’s right, it’s A Saturday Night Television Special Special! You can expect the likes of Olivia Newton-John, Liza Minnelli, Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler, Lynda Carter, and more sashaying through choreographed disco numbers, groan-inducing comedy bits, and wildly misguided dramatic interpretations!

“…an astute study of fandom, insecurity, and what it means to hold the spotlight.” — FilmThreat

“[Amanda Kramer is] one of the boldest filmmakers working today…” — AWFJ

“… lurid cinematic mischief-making.” — ScreenDaily

“…mesmerizing, wholly bizarre, and lovably unconventional.” — Film Zealots
