This film is presented by St. Louis’s long-running cult film series STRANGE Brew and will feature a pre-film intro by Strange Brew programmer Jon Scorfina.

Gleaming the Cube is the Citizen Kane of Skateboarding Detective movies! The film stars Christian Slater as Brian, an angsty skate punk whose world gets turned upside down when his adopted brother mysteriously dies. Between ditching class and skating empty pools with his friends, Brian soon discovers that has brother was actually murdered. Determined to get to the bottom of this murder-mystery, Brian stumbles upon a much larger plot involving the Vietnamese drug trade, which obviously can only be foiled by the tenacity of one skateboarding detective willing to get gnarly.

This Skatepoltation flick finds Hollywood attempting to capitalize on skateboarding during its awkward toddler years, while the sport was still gaining its feet before launching into the stratosphere in the mid-90s with the advent of the X-Games and the mega popularity of the Tony Hawk Pro-Skater video games. Despite the blatant cash grab on the growing interest in extreme sports, Gleaming The Cube doubles as a wonderful window into the world of late-’80s skateboarding. Christian Slater’s skate-doubles were pros Mike McGill and Rodney Mullen, original Z-Boy Stacy Peralta was the second unit director, and the whole legendary Bones Brigade skate team make cameo appearances, including Lance Mountain, Mike Vallely, Tommy Guerrero & Tony Hawk as the Pizza Hut delivery-driving best friend.

Iconic scenes like the angry-skate through an empty warehouse (think the “Angry Dance” from Footloose but on an skateboard) and the triumphant arrival of the Bones Brigade crew bombing down a steep hill to help out Slater are must-watch for skaters & non-skaters alike. Along with Thrashin’, this film has become a beloved cult classic with skaters all over the world. It most recently found a second renaissance when Tony Hawk playfully tweeted, “If you didn’t watch Gleaming The Cube while quarantined, we’re you ever really quarantined at all?”

All seats are first-come, first-served.

The theater opens one hour prior to showtime, except for “Happy Hour” events when the theater will open at the event’s start time.

All ages are welcome at Arkadin except for Drinkolas Cage events, which are restricted to 21+. We follow the MPAA rating guidelines for all other films.

Tickets can be purchased using the BUY TICKETS link above. Upon ordering, you will receive a confirmation email from Square. Tickets may also be purchased on the day of the show at the concession counter.

If you’ve purchased advance tickets, when you arrive, please give your name at the concession counter to check in.

Tickets are returnable by sending a request through the contact form located on our About Us page prior to showtime.

When an event is sold out, we reserve the right to release open seats to customers on the waitlist. If you have a pre-purchased ticket and arrive late and there is no seat for you, your ticket will be refunded.
