It’s rare that a movie captures the intensity and excitement of a live Broadway musical production while appealing to a broader movie-going audience, but the 2007 Hairspray is an energetic, powerfully moving film that does just that. A remake of John Waters’ 1988 cult classic, this film adaptation of the 2002 Broadway musical has become a rightfully beloved modern classic, serving up crowd-pleasing sing-along tunes while retaining Waters’ subversive wit. In 1960s Baltimore, dance-loving teen Tracy Turnblad (Nikki Blonsky) auditions for a spot on “The Corny Collins Show” and wins. She becomes an overnight celebrity, a trendsetter in dance, fun and fashion. Perhaps her new status as a teen sensation is enough to topple Corny’s reigning dance queen and bring racial integration to the show.

This screening will take place outdoors in our backlot theater. We highly recommend you bring your own chair as seating is limited!
