HOT SPRING SHARK ATTACK (2024) — outrageous new horror-comedy with delicious practical FX — back by popular demand!
August 9 : 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
“A ROLLERCOASTER OF NONSENSE! The best shark-themed horror comedy to date!” – Cut to the Take
Just when you thought it was safe to go back to Arkadin… After a rip-roaring sold-out screening, we’re bringing back this unhinged deep-sea nightmare! Hot Spring Shark Attack follows a sleepy hot spring town in Japan that gets a rude awakening when an ancient, bloodthirsty shark resurfaces to terrorize the local bathhouses. The townspeople must band together to save their steamy paradise, leading to a battle for the ages. After winning the Audience Award at the 2024 Tokyo International Shark Film Festival, the film will chomp its way into Arkadin this July 4th weekend! Who needs Jaws when you’ve got this crowdfunded, handmade treasure from Japan that combines practical effects, miniatures, and CGI to create a hilariously silly but deeply heartfelt tribute to shark-attack movies of yore.
Synopsis: In Atsumi City, where construction of a huge tourist complex led by the mayor, Mankan, is underway, a series of incidents have occurred in which the people while bathing in onsen have suddenly disappeared. What’s more, the bodies of unidentified people who had been attacked by sharks in the sea were found. The police chief, Tsuka, and marine biology doctor, Kose, who set out to investigate, discover the shocking truth that ferocious sharks that have been revived from ancient times are freely moving between the hot springs and attacking people…
