PIXEL PERFECT: 8bit Animation Mixtape presented by Head Cleaner Theatre

February 15 : 7:30 pm

Join us for the next edition of Head Cleaner Theatre, PIXEL PERFECT, a celebration of the 8-bit/pixel-based animation and artwork from the early days of personal computing when technology leveled the playing field for creative professionals and driven amateurs alike. Featuring a number of shorts, demos, and other early digital ephemera, we’re excited to be highlighting the 8-bit vibesterpiece THE FLYING LUNA CLIPPER!

Originally made in 1987 for the MSX computer system by illustrator Ikki Ono, THE FLYING LUNA CLIPPER is a pixel fantasia full of sunglasses-wearing snowmen vacationing in the tropics, anthropomorphic volcanoes, shadowy duckbilled executives, all rendered in glorious eye-popping pastel pixels. The dreamy film was rescued from obscurity when a Laserdisc copy was found in a thrift store in Japan and uploaded to the internet in 2015, where its ahead-of-its-time aesthetic aligned with the 21st century Tumblr set.

Arrive early for the PC preshow, with demos and instructional videos for early PCs and other dead technologies!

Tickets are free! Reserve your spot with the RESERVE YOUR SEAT button above.
