What starts as a noir-ish thriller about a young single woman (Janet Leigh) on the run with $40,000 in stolen cash turns—gradually, and then suddenly—into one of cinema’s most enduring screw-turners, a chilling tale with an undercurrent of sadness thanks to Anthony Perkins’ unsettling turn as the notorious Norman Bates Featuring one of the most iconic scenes in film history—the famous “shower scene”—Psycho remains, over 60 years later, utterly terrifying.
