RAZOR SHARPE (2001) presented by Fist City w/ action-packed pre-show @ 6 pm

December 9 : 7:00 pm 9:00 pm

Free

Fist City is a monthly series by The Saint Louis Video Society that pulls the most obscure, weird and rarely seen/ screened VHS Tapes from their archive and brings them to the Arkadin screen…for FREE!

On Monday December 9th, FIST CITY proudly presents an unusual and action-packed vanity project from obscure stuntman and martial artist, Troy Nikolo Ashford, RAZOR SHARPE. Ashford stars as Justin Sharpe, an aspiring actor who gets in over his head when he “films” what he thinks is a bank robbery scene that turns out to be real! The director/producer/co-writer/star must not only stop the criminals who framed him, but rescue his girl.

Shot on Mini-DV with a microscopic budget, RAZOR SHARPE packs a big punch as it exudes all the charm of the late-90s/early-00s shot on digital video era. Ashford gives every ounce of energy and swagger he can muster in what he probably knew was his one-and-only shot at a film career. RAZOR SHARPE is also a worthwhile continuation of the African-American-led, “independent action film” legacy; multi-hyphenate projects like SWEET SWEETBACKS BADASSSSS SONG, DOLEMITE, and SOLOMON KING.

Don’t miss FIST CITY’s wild, mixtape of short films, music videos and trailers at 6pm, before RAZOR SHARPE starts at 7pm (SHARPE)!

Come early for a curated pre-show starting at 6 pm!

“this one checks all the boxes!!!!!
the boxes:
✅ shot on video
✅ vanity project
✅ opens with a quote from the writer/director/producer/star
✅ gunshots and explosions added in editing
✅ overuse of the “neck snap” move
✅ monotone line readings
✅ amazing fashion choices
✅ the writer/director/producer/star gets an awkward sex scene
✅ wildly high body count”
-Dan Gorman, Letterboxd
