SHINJUKU LOVE STORY (1987) presented by Fist City

January 13 : 7:00 pm 9:00 pm

Free

Fist City is a monthly series by The Saint Louis Video Society that pulls the most obscure, weird and rarely seen/ screened VHS Tapes from their archive and brings them to the Arkadin screen…for FREE!

Love conquers all in FIST CITY this month! It’s a tale as old as time…Boy meets Girl (and cat), Boy and Girl run afoul of two corrupt, sleazy cops, Boy and Girl also piss off the yakuza, Boy and Girl run for their lives. Okay, it’s a bit more complicated than your typical love story, but SHINJUKU LOVE STORY doesn’t disappoint. SHINJUKU LOVE STORY has never been released in the US, not theatrically or home video—so this is a rare opportunity to see an amazing Japanese hybridization of romance and action. Directed by Hiroyuki Nasu in 1987 after his film BEBOP HIGH SCHOOL took Japanese pop culture by storm, SHINJUKU LOVE STORY diverts the stylization of BEBOP into a charming, teen pop exercise that gets only darker and darker. Don’t miss this chance to see a film you won’t forget.

Join us at 6pm for a pre-show full of unusual Japanese videos and clips!

Information about content can also be found on Common Sense Media, IMDB and DoesTheDogDie.com, as well as through general internet searches.
