SOMETHING WILD (1986) w/ New Wave pre-show

February 21 : 5:00 pm 7:00 pm

“Joyfully offbeat… It’s vivaciously funny and sexy and spontaneous, it’s full of hairpin turns that rivet and delight, it’s a dizzyingly unbridled love comedy that turns darker and more dangerous — not abruptly but inexorably, like a sunny day melting into night, until you realize you’re watching a violently free-spirited thriller about the true stakes of passion.” – Variety

There’s never been a film quite like SOMETHING WILD. Directed by oddball auteur Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs, Stop Making Sense), the story starts as a quirky rom-com and ends up as a surprisingly unhinged thriller while remaining deliriously offbeat throughout. It all starts outside a New York greasy spoon where quirky, free-spirited Lulu (Melanie Griffith) confronts strait-laced yuppie banker Charlie (Jeff Daniels) for failing to pay his bill. It’s not long before the two find themselves on an interstate road trip and possibly falling for each other, until Lulu’s menacing ex-husband (Ray Liotta) shows up. Featuring a killer ’80s soundtrack and electric performances from Daniels, Griffith, and Liotta, SOMETHING WILD is both a kinky comic thriller and a radiantly off-kilter love story.

The movie is preceded at 4:50 pm by a New Wave pre-show paying tribute to Something Wild’s iconic soundtrack.
