STRANGERS WITH CANDY TV Show Happy Hour
November 1 : 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm
During Arkadin happy hours, we offer curated entertainment on the big screen in a looser, loungier atmosphere than a normal film screening. We keep the lights up a bit. No ticket required; you can drop in or drop out any time you like. Totally FREE plus drink/snack specials at the bar!
Twenty-five years ago, Comedy Central debuted a show so strange, so acerbic, so damn funny that it lives on in the hearts and minds of everyone lucky enough to stumble across it while flipping through cable. We speak, of course, of STRANGERS WITH CANDY, a wicked spoof of the after-school specials of the 1970s and 1980s starring Amy Sedaris as Jerri, who ran away from home and dropped out of high school to become “a boozer, a user, and a loser.” Now 46 years old, she returns to Flatpoint High, desperate to be popular while learning valuable life lessons with the help of her rageaholic history teacher Chuck Noblet (Stephen Colbert) and his secret lover, art teacher Geoffrey Jellineck (Paul Dinello).
Arkadin does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films, as sensitivities vary from person to person. However, we encourage researching titles to determine if a screening may contain content that could be upsetting to you. Please feel free to contact us for guidance on specific films. Information about content can also be found on Common Sense Media, IMDB and DoesTheDogDie.com, as well as through general internet searches.
