THE DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS (1981) — the entire classic miniseries about flesh-eating plants

April 18 : 4:30 pm 7:15 pm

“Remains one of the best global disasters seen on the screen, haunting and frequently terrifying. Its influence remains strong.” – The EOFFTV Review

Though adapted before and after, John Wyndham’s classic post-apocalyptic novel THE DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS received its definitive treatment in 1981 when the BBC transformed the text into a gripping 6-part miniseries that terrified audiences with its harrowing tale of a world stricken by mass blindness and overrun by triffids, ambulatory flesh-eating plants. Perfectly balancing its enthralling storytelling with a bit of sci-fi cheese, the series asks serious questions about morality, our responsibility to others, and the foundations of human civilization — all while the characters dodge the venomous, harpoon-like stingers of the triffids. A major influence on 28 Days Later, TRIFFIDS is intelligent, unnerving, and a lot of fun.

Arkadin presents all six episodes, running about 150 minutes, with an intermission.
