THE GOOD SON (1993) presented by Dark Dream Cinema

November 5 : 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

“A creepy, unpleasant experience, made all the worse because it stars children too young to understand the horrible things we see them doing.” – Roger Ebert

Following the death of his mother, 12-year-old Mark Evans (Elijah Wood) is sent to live with family in Maine, and becomes fast friends with his cousin Henry (Macaulay Culkin). But as they pal around, looking for mischief, something alarming becomes clear: Henry is far from the perfect child he appears, and may, in fact, be evil. And as the only one who can see the truth, it’s up to Mark to warn the others before Henry comes gunning for him.

In a classic example of playing against type, Macaulay Culkin subverted his status as the most famous child star in the world with this disturbing glimpse into the mind of a budding psychopath. Poised against the equally precocious Elijah Wood, Culkin’s Henry Evans is a demon with the face of an angel, a master manipulator hellbent on taking out anyone who stands in his way. Framed as the Bad Seed of the ‘90s, The Good Son leveraged Culkin’s image as the golden boy of Hollywood to reveal the rot at the heart of the American dream.
