THE INVISIBLE MAN (1933) — the Universal Horror classic + surprise short!

October 25 : 2:00 pm 4:00 pm

“What a treat. So delightfully nasty and sardonic, and with a really high body count to boot. Invisibility is the most fascinating power because it really does is divorce you from any moral accountability, which of course leads to a psychosis that manifests itself in all sorts of ghoulish ways.” – Scott Tobias

Of all the OG Universal monster-movie classics, 1933’s THE INVISIBLE MAN is undoubtedly the most under-appreciated. From director James Whale, the man behind Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein, this haunting adaptation of H.G. Wells’ novel elegantly mixes science fiction ideas and a thriller plot with touches of Whale’s signature sardonic camp humor. With its macabre atmosphere, still-stunning practical effects, and searing lead performance by Claude Rains (best known as Captain Renault from Casablanca), THE INVISIBLE MAN is the deliciously and maliciously gripping tale of scientist Jack Griffin (Rains), who discovers a means of rendering himself completely invisible only to find that it comes with a disastrous side effect: aggressive, murderous rage. A real treat for fans of old-school thrills, this one is guaranteed to shock, terrify, and delight in equal measure.

Plus, before the film, we’ll be presenting a surprise spooky short!
