WILD THINGS (1998) — “steamy, tawdry, gloriously over-the-top”
August 8 : 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
“Director John McNaughton’s grip is a bawdy mix of suspense, sex and silliness, all served up with a huge tongue sticking in his cheek. It’s a foamy mix, topped off by highly charged performances.” – The Hollywood Reporter
A steaming slice of sexy late-90s neo-noir from director John McNaughton (Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer), Wild Things is the ideal balance of sleaze, trash, wit, and softcore stimuli. Popular guidance counselor Sam Lombardo (Matt Dillon) is no stranger to being the focus of female attention, but his fortunes change dramatically when one of the wealthiest students at his high school, sultry minx Kelly Van Ryan (Denise Richards) makes a bold accusation against him. The charge looks sure to stick when another girl from the other end of the social spectrum, Suzie Toller (Neve Campbell), steps forward with her own allegations, but Detective Duquette (Kevin Bacon) smells something fishy, and the truth is as murky and dangerous as the alligator-infested swamps in the hinterlands of this affluent beach community. Wild Things piles one loony twist after another while luxuriating in the humid sleaze of South Florida, where everyone’s a con artist and nothing is what it seems. Oh yeah…and did we mention that pool scene?
