Jane Schoenbrun’s WE’RE ALL GOING TO THE WORLD’S FAIR (2021) w/ creepypasta shorts pre-show

May 16 : 7:00 pm 8:45 pm

“Strangeness is a quality valued and yearned for in so many sorts of movies, but rarely found – yet this really is strange, an experiment in horror form from the trans film-maker Jane Schoenbrun… What an uncanny, exhilarating experience.” – The Guardian

A uncanny and unsettling indie that launched the career of one of cinema’s most exciting filmmakers, Jane Schoenbrun’s WE’RE ALL GOING TO THE WORLD’S FAIR is a creepypasta come to life. Told largely through computer screens, the film stars Anna Cobb as Casey, a young girl who takes part in the online “World’s Fair” challenge, which has users repeat the title phrase three times, prick their finger, smear blood on the screen, and then watch an intense strobe-light video. The story unfolds through grainy webcams, late‑night chatrooms, and DIY video diaries, capturing the intimacy and eeriness of a lonely adolescent’s online existence. Sharp, melancholic, and quietly terrifying, WORLD’S FAIR has been rightly heralded by IndieWire as one of the best movies of the 2020s (so far).

Before the film, we present a pre-show of short films inspired by creepypasta, starting at 6:30 pm.
